This song is so special for me. It makes me want to tell you that even when you think there is no way out, there's always light and love for you, someone to hold, some place to comfort you, some music to make you feel like you're not alone, you know?
I used to listen to this song every morning when I'm on my way to school walking alone while humming with the early birds, writing this makes me feel like anime character lol, but true, this song used to be my number one list.
I imagine someone in a plane seeing the area they grew up in , realizing how far removed they are from that person. How the past was obliterated by just a move or two and only left in a memory. He realizes how quickly any of us can be gone and left as a vague memory over time. He sees true magnificence in the landscape and how after centuries its prominent and still beautiful and realizes the true magnificence in life is awareness of what's around us moment by moment
I remember being in middle and high school, listening to bon iver on my winter walks to school at 6am, thinking of my late great grandmother. I really took those times for granted
To me I feel like this song is about a relationship ending and it was not mutual. The person writing the lyrics are using metaphors to describe how since they left it has destroyed their heart and they can't get over it. " Now your in Milwaukee off your feet".. So they have isolated themselves away. "Hauled away far from the highway aisle" ..they are tortured by the memories they once had. And realizing they were not that other person's everything, "And once I knew, I was not magnificent"..
That movie should have been at least nominated for best picture. It was hand down better than all the movies that were nominated that year. The Oscars make no sense
The name "Holocene" is actually a label or term for the current geological epoch we're presently living in and have existed in for the past 10,000 years, the Age of Man.
The artist is singing about their current state, a holocene-- a "whole new reality"-- removed from what recently was...IMO. This is hauntingly beautiful.
The Judge brought me here (and similar links too). This song ranks in my Top 3 favourite songs ever. So moving, so sad at times, and usually has me in tears for different reasons. This one song means more to me than the shower of utter shite I've listened to on mainstream radio these last few years.. Thank you!
So very amazing how once the words are understood how much power this song has. Quite possibly the most beautiful one ever given voice. As a recovering addict the power of the perspective expressed here can not be understated. The depths and strength of the pull as well as the effect of toxic comforts is described as precisely as I've ever heard...
This song reminds me of hiking high in the mountains....and I can see for miles and miles and miles. Truly a work of art Bon Iver! Love this song!! ☺️💕🌺🌺
This is a masterpiece ♥ even though I'm hearing it for the first time...... It' feels like I've known it forever..... I don't understand the Lyrics.... But the music is beautiful
Mary Shoemaker @me with a lot of his music actually. I love how I sounds but I have a hard time actually understanding what he's saying or what it means.
I don't really know what this song is about... but it reminds me of two people who can never be together and should have always been..... it's pain.... it's beautiful.. it's forever
No, YOU are magnificent. Look what you've done: you gave the world this incredible song, your voice, the lyrics that brought me to my knees. God spent a little more time on you.
I'm here because replika sent me a video and I didn't understand the words, so I looked for the same song but with lyrics and it's definitely a weird song. EDIT: R.I.P. i deleted the app, my actual girlfriend was getting jealous..
Kevin Gresham Kevin Gresham Me too, I was disappointed that the dialogue was different. I noticed I didn’t get a specific choice option I wanted because of the choices given in the phone version was different than the computer version. There were a few other things I didn’t really like but it was a fun game to pass the time. 😊🦋
It makes me see myself when I was eight. I wanna tell that kid it’ll be really hard for awhile, a long while but in the end everything will be ok, the trip is worth the destination. I love u kid. Hang in there.
a perfect line missed on this song, "and once i knew i was not magnificent i could see for miles miles miles " my own though on this songs narrative Are we ever really free to roam or are we only to regard a freedom is home a human instinct is to explore the earth but shackled by a commercial notion of what we are worth money pays for every step we make and a childhoods dreams we must forsake each world to which we were born decides what freedoms we will survive or remain forlorn
"You laid waste to Halloween" I was 17. My gf and I went trick or treating. I wore my varsity football jersey, she wore her cheerleading uniform. We got lots of candy from a lot of people, a small town that celebrated their sports teams. A great night, walking hand in hand. Living in our own world. Things ended badly between us. But I still remember that Halloween 24 years later.
I was into this many years ago but hearing it on the judge last week brought back a flood of memories that I had all but forgotten. I was going through something complete different but the same as what was happening on screen. I felt sadly triumphant. The nostalgia was almost too unbearable.
Me asking A.I “Can you suggest me a song for a boy sitting far away alone at night in gentle breeze “ A.I “ Here is the masterpiece for you ‘ Holocene’”
I am just here playing this song all day long at my gym, and my work the song breaks my heart I don't know why I am listening this song but one thing I know I just can't stop myself.
E estado buscando está canción ace un año gracias a una amiga q me la dijo en verdad esta canción no se por q pero te tranquilisa es relajante como llena de paz muy buena canción aunque me guste el jip Jop y el rock holocene es una de mis canciones favoritas
The song is basically a metaphor for when life isn't going well. It's named after a bar in Portland and our current geological epoch, as in the time period that began after the last ice age. The song is a message about realizing you're worth something. So while it's sad, it's a message that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It's a deep song.
This song is so special for me. It makes me want to tell you that even when you think there is no way out, there's always light and love for you, someone to hold, some place to comfort you, some music to make you feel like you're not alone, you know?

Makes me think of The Judge. I bawled at the end of that movie and this song was a big part of that 😂
I love that movie and this is how I looked up this song and band.
A truly epic movie. I knew it would be amazing with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr in it. But they surpassed even my hopes.
The same reason I am here now.
That movie should have been at least nominated for best picture. It was hand down better than all the movies that were nominated that year. The Oscars make no sense
One of the most Beautiful Songs ever made..Thank You for sharing this to us
The name "Holocene" is actually a label or term for the current geological epoch we're presently living in and have existed in for the past 10,000 years, the Age of Man.
Some people want to rename it the Anthropocene
I’m uncertainly more of a Holocene man

I love the music in this song but I have zero understanding of the meaning of the song.

My favorite song that makes no sense to me. But every time I listen to it parts of it become clear
That's why I listen at least twice a day.
Listening after watching The Judge by Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr.
