    Beautiful trip, brother. That was a ton of kayaks and canoes where you put in.

      Thanks so much, John! Yes, this outfitter is one of the largest in this area. But it's a fantastic trip!

    Man it's so awesome to hear you had a nice float on the river that you like the best. Going back over memories it feels so good. & to do it in your canoe instead of a kayak I know that probably made it special man. & to see you have so much fun on the water I just love watching man. I know I keep saying this all the time but I really would love to get out there with you and have some of this fun with you man & I know all six of my boys & my wife would love to join me on this. That was cool just seeing you just sit there in the water and relax and cool down and wait for your ride to pick you up. This was a good video thank you for sharing.

      Thanks so much, Mack! Maybe we can get out on the water one of these days. Yes, for me there's absolutely nothing like chilling on a float trip!!

    I've been going there since I was a kid and I'm taking my wife there for our anniversary. In my opinion, it's the best river. It's perfect for those that are inexperienced and those who could do it blind folded.(not a Ned Batey joke)

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol- I couldn't agree, more! I did recommend to one recent commenter that it can be crowded and 10-miles might be a little much if you're not up for it, but other than that it is perfect and absolutely one of my favorites!!!

    Ran it last weekend. Crowded at first but thinned out really quick. Easy trip for inexperienced yakkers. Took about 3 hrs in tandem kayak. Super nice folks to deal with. I would like to do again this Fall.

      Sounds like a great trip! I have a video called "Buffalo Buds" (now out of business) that's the same trip but in early October. It was so awesome!!

    Just curious...why aren't you using a double blade paddle in your canoe?

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question! I almost ALWAYS have a double bladed with me in the canoe. I will use it if the wind is too high or if I simply need to make some serious miles quickly (or keep up with kayaks in my group). But I enjoy using the single blade as much as I can. It's similar to why some deer hunters use a bow over a rifle- it adds a little challenge. It's a skill that I try to keep honed as much as I can.

    Would this be a good trip for adults and children who are beginner kayakers ? We live in Walker county close to Smith Lake. Do you have any recommendations for fun, safe trips for beginners?

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robin- this probably wouldn't be ideal for beginners because it's 10 miles and can be crowded. Big Wills Outfitters in Attalla (Gadsden) is a great starter trip at 6 miles that's fairly close. Paint Rock Canoe and Kayak on the Paint Rock River east of Huntsville is one of the best starter trips as far as easy, distance (5 miles), not crowded and shade (in late summer). :-)

    • @ethanpannell9617
      @ethanpannell9617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was 6 when I first went and it was great. It's not a super rapid river. There are a few rough spots but, if you have beginner kayakers then it's the perfect test. Plenty of sights to see too.

    Is there partying on the river

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  ปีที่แล้ว

      On summer holiday weekends? Like you've never seen! On average summer weekends? Yes. Two options to avoid partying if you want are, 1 - Start early or 2 - Do the upper 8-mile trip where you start at Topsy Bridge end up at the Outpost (Bell Bridge). Most people do the 10-mile lower that starts at the outpost and finishes at Slink Shoals (big blue rock).
