Really really Nice men!!! ;-) i am doing a bike build myself and i regret that i didnt make that good of a documentation of it how i made it. thumbs up!
OK ...cool build.. looks very 1980s Judge Dredd future world. Warning about Skillshare link...they want you to sign up and purchase a plan if you want your ‘free 14 days’. (And they’ll automatically keep deducting)
How does it run with the pod filters??? I have an 85 XJ700 with basically the same carbs, I wanted to get a Dynojet kit and pod filters but was told it'll NEVER run right without the stock air box. I can properly install everything but don't wanna spend $200 only to have the bike run worse than stock.
bruh!!! 2.5 year build = 2.5 years of shooting footage too. Your long term vision is uncanny. Best wishes and wishing you more success mate!! Ride safe always!!
I just wanna say, this is the ONLY bike build time lapse video I’ve seen all the way through because the shots and editing is so great! After experiencing customizing bikes, I wish more people knew the time and work that go into them. Because when you do, you have more respect for it. It looks easy, but it really isn’t. Mad respect.
Took me 3 years to rebuild my xj750. I know how hard it is with out support and in South Africa the guys you take your parts to might just seal them. I had more trouble trying to get parts because it was not a new bike and rebuilding the engine was a nightmare because I waited 7 months just for the crank bearings and they were all different sizes. They guys did not want to help me no big money in it for them. I got her together in the end and seeing her run again was one of the most rewarding things of my life. Love is an engine.
The tank of the XJ650 is probably one of the best looking factory tanks I've seen. This build was epic! The outcome was so much better than I could ever imagine!
I took a 90's honda 250 nighthawk and gave it the cafe racer treatment...seat/lights/gauges/wire tuck/paint/mufflers/new rubber and such. Good fun working on a simple bike, it sounded mean and was fun to ride. If you can find a small older/air cooled bike, you can make them look new without fancy tools...just time and love. I didn't go as far with my build as most, but I started with a $300 bike, put $600 in parts and in the end, sold her for $1200 to a very happy new owner. So I got to learn working on a bike, modifying one, riding one, and made a few bucks in the end.
Awesome work, that's a really nice build. Me and my dad are fan of old cars and old motorcyles, my dad is more into motorcyles than I am though, I'm more into cars. But it's a passion we both share. I really like the beginning of the video when you explained the question "why do we buy those old rusty pieces of junk ?", since very young I always loved doing DIY and old vehicles (both quite go hand in hand in my opinion). On my 18th birthday, my dad offered me an old and dirty Peugeot BB moped, I couldn't dream of a better gift, my very first restoration project. Everytime I go to my dad's place, I spend my time by working on it. It's mostly a lot of cleaning, but it's still nice to do. I'm quite limited in terms of tools and space to work, so I do what I can with I got, and it still works fine. It's far from done but it's progessing. Watching these kinds of video is really inspiring, it shows the methods of different people, some even explain so we can learn from it. That's also what I like about mechanics on old vehicles: sharing knowledge between enthustiasts. Sorry for that big comment, I tend to have troubles to stop rambling too much when I'm really passionate about something. 😅
Nice! I started my first project late last year - xs400 monoshock model, doing it scrambler/flattracker style. Are you planning to post progress somewhere?
EN I honestly think that your documentary could win a film award. There are so many things in game here, the filming technique work, the notion and knowledge to judge which parts of the customization were interesting to show. Without a doubt, one of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam.
When I first saw the beginning of this video I almost didn't want to watch because I thought you were going to hack it up and make it something it wasn't. You really made a great-looking machine here I'm impressed
Excellent job. Learned a few tricks. I drove a XJ650 in the 90s. My first fast 4 cylinder bike. Gave it up, because the motor ran like turbine and still had a vibration that made my hands numb. I needed a thumper and shaker. Next and 20 years later were the Kawasaki W 800, a parallel twin, which I really enjoyed. I had to leave it in Europe when I relocated into the US where I bought a Triumph Thruxton, which I am driving for 10 years now.
Absolutely amazing. To see how much care, detail and hard work has been put into this bike makes it so so valuable. It must be a joy just to sit and ride a bike knowing that your own hands crafted this artwork. Beautiful.
Love it!All it needs is a 1960`s Cafe Racing Fairing to give a stunning finish. I am a Ducati Guy ,but grew up on a bunch of Honda`s. My first bike in 1969 was 1965 650 BSA Tear Drop Engine. It was a mechanical and electrical nightmare, always leaking oil, always needing some repair, hard to start when cold, but looked and sounded awesome.
I've watched many restorations & restomods, cafe racer builds, you name it. This one is surely done excellently. I like the fact that even with the rear end chopped it still retains the right design proportions and does not look awkward.
Spot on. So many of the bob job “cafe racers” miss the mark by chopping the rear end and hanging a cantilevered solo pad. Guess they’re not intended for guys giving rides to curious ladies. The XJ was an excellent bike and this interpretation really does it justice. So good to see the disposal of Yamaha’s swirly wheels. They did over-style a few of their bikes in the ‘80s.
I can't say that I have ever been able to go to this level but years ago I did nearly the same with a Suzuki GS500. I added GSXR 750 front forks, dual 320mm discs, custom machined triple adapter, an R6 rear mono shock, and grafter a Ducati Monster rear subframe to it. I absolutely loved the project and it was a long time in the making. And then I sold it. :( That is where this makes me super sad but also happy I can type what I did above. I learned so much about my skills making that bike into a one of a kind and I will always have that. Just as you have this amazing video; it will always be here. Now, just don't sell this bike! lol Amazing build and thanks for sharing.
You took my breath away when revealing the final result, it's just fantastic! I have the same shaft driven XJ750 and bought in similar condition, wanted to do a brat style build, but never found time and funds to finish it, so I'm still doing a couple of things each year. You have such a talent, it's amazing!
kinda eerie that you timed the rain to start right when you brought that work of art outside. lol. BEAUTIFUL job brother and I have a whole new respect for the square headlights. Enjoy brother!!
2 and a half years well spent id say. This build is totally stunning. Ive watched all of your videos, and you improve every time. Hope you get many miles of good riding from it. All the best.
holy sh*t! this is soo nicely done and filmed for that matter. You really are just an underrated contentcreator and it's quite sad you don't have more subs, cuz you deserve it.
WOW. Just wow. I had an '81 and '82 XJ650s ( both non-SECA models), an '85 XJ700 Maxim, and currently have a '79 XS650 so I have a soft spot for vintage Yamahas. This thing is killer. I originally thought you were crazy for choosing that headlight, but by the end I was digging it. Fantastic build. Top notch work and love all the little details. So many cool things on this bike.
I found the exact junker here in Colorado and I am going to use some of your techniques to build my next cafe racer. Thanks so much and just Amazing work Jish!
I remember these, I'd just passed my bike test. Unfortunately, I chose another route. Brilliant video of how to do. Enjoyed watching your skills. Top drawer. Cheers Tony
Perfect build! Great video! My brother and I have a running joke about how for a 30 minute time lapse people only show the final build for less than a minute but this one was special!
I just clicked this video planning to see the very end only ... but since the first minute I found myself hooked up to watch every single second of it til the end ... man this is just amazing
I remember this bike well. My brother bought a new 650 Seca in 82 and then they were doing the square headlight conversion for free if you wanted it, which my brother did. I got a chance to ride it quite a bit. He'd put a pipe on it and flipped the handlebars over which made you sit more like a modern sport bike. It rode well but I always liked bigger engines so when I learned to ride on a Honda 450 Nighthawk I jumped to a V65 Magna. Still love these old bikes much more than the new stuff and I kept over the years a 79 CBX and an 83 1100F Super Sport.
What an amazing transformation. I was a bit skeptical about a couple of your design choices. But after seeing the finished bike I realized I was totally wrong. It all works together brilliantly. Thank you for sharing your creation. I'm sure it will inspire others to give these old bikes a second chance at life. Much respect 🙏 🫡. Stay safe and keep doing what you do.
He may be doing it at his 9-5 job work, like during lunch or after hours. Also, I can't see what brand they are. But in reality, CNC Machines like Haas and Fadal can be had for 10-15k used, and new ones from Tormach and Langmire can be had for about the same price.
Great build and great movie. I used to own a bone stock 82 Seca 650 and that motor was a beast. The first time I punched it, I felt the ass end of the bike lift up and thought WTF? Shaft drive. It’s wacky. Without the extra weight, this thing must be a rocket. Really really awesome to see this much love go into one of these great bikes.
WOW, Seriously.... This video has some of the best B-roll I've seen (even compared to Peter McKinnon). Story telling also on point. This bike turned out perfect. The paint job design is on point. Congrats on an epic build. Hope it rides as good as it looks.
Your love ❤ of conversation with old bike to make new look . Knowledge, passion, Hard work , new techniques are really awesome 😊bro. Wish you good luck.
Very well produced indeed. But I love this video because I love that bike. That was my first real road bike. I bought one new in '82 and rode it for twenty years. Seeing such love and dedication lavished on one brings moisture to my eyes. Thanks.
Mate just found your channel. Love the videos. Im in Australia and I just bought a 1981 xj750 and I was looking for some inspiration and by far your build stands well above the rest. Cheers mate take care
The whole time wanting to hear it running but the closest I got to hearing it was with some generic YT music over the top. Beautiful build none the less. Well done.
A tip for sanding the silver stripes on the valve cover. Use those quite soft sanding blocks, instead of a da Sander. You Will get those nice straight sanding scratches instead of That da pattern. And its easier to get flatspots around the corners With a da. If you want the da pattern you can always block sand first and then make a pass with the da. Love That you show safety gear, not Everyone does That. And remeber to always lay covers with sealing side upwards. Glad to se someone else using the innertube method when mounting engines.
I'm not going to lie, mate. I got a little misty watching this. I could feel the frustration and the ultimate satisfaction in your voice thru the trials and tribulations of the video. I LOVE cafe racers. There's something about them that are the ultimate- its hard to explain but you get it because what you ended up with was incredible. Anyways, very excited for your built. Congrats. You are the envy of many. Ride safe, brother!
Hey Jish! The bike is very awesome and I think that you make such a good work. This video is inspirational! I just wanna say to keep up with what you do! BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND BEAUTIFUL 👏🙌
Ow boy!!! That's the best I've ever seen... I just sold my CB 400 cafe racer and it just makes me miss the feeling of building your own bike... Awesome job bro... Congrats from Brazil!
An absolute beauty two and half years of hard work rebuilding this bike for this result must take so much energy, money, time and most important love and passion. Thank you for this video
Saw your bike at Bike shed motor show today and I instantly recognized the taillight of the bike. The bike looks amazing in person. I was hoping that I could have met you as well.
Nice work Jish , I had an XJ550 back in the day and used to rip around manfield on it with Simon Crafar , he was training on his RG 250 back then. Always loved the Yamaha look
That 3D printed headlamp cradle looked amazing raw. So did the seat + battery + rear lamp fabrication. Very flash! The Overall pain design hits the spot. I'm so pleased to see more shaft driven bikes being built now. Consider penetrating oil or Plus Gas to release rusty screws. In america you can get stuff called Evapo-Rust and it does!

Dude derust the frame completely first before you start welding on things.
Did you oil the air filters? They looked dry to me.
I liked everything but the square headlights. That bike had the massive round headlight and I always liked that look.

Its a shame that the TH-cam algorithms do not give bonus points for production quality. This video is very well done.

Awesome to hear man! good luck with it and most of all have fun
Bilt a xs400 cafe racer In 98. Early model with double leading shoe spoke wheels. Great bike. Will do the Ton. Barely.
Good luck man!!! I just picked up a 76 Kawasaki kz400, and I plan on it being a budget build.

Hey Jish! The bike is very awesome and I think that you make such a good work. This video is inspirational!
I just wanna say to keep up with what you do!
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND BEAUTIFUL 👏🙌
Riding bikes makes me emotional, it's so important to me.
Super Arbeit 👍der Charakter der XJ 650 blieb erhalten und das ist gut so, denn die Yamaha war eine sehr schöne Maschine
Wow. An absolutely sensational story with a stunning result. You must be well pleased.
What a beautiful bike! Thanks for sharing your build, well done!
Gotta be one of the sickest bikes I've ever seen. And watching the process... *chef's kiss*
Ow boy!!! That's the best I've ever seen... I just sold my CB 400 cafe racer and it just makes me miss the feeling of building your own bike... Awesome job bro... Congrats from Brazil!
Bro, you are a magician! You did amazing work on this beautiful bike. Made it come back to life.
The seat is the hardest part of the build imo and you nailed it
By far, the best XJ650 built I ever saw. I wish I could give it a ride. Ride safe man!
That has got to be one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen!!! Awesome build!!!
Nice work Jish , I had an XJ550 back in the day and used to rip around manfield on it with Simon Crafar , he was training on his RG 250 back then. Always loved the Yamaha look
Good to see the “Death Twin” headlights that tell drivers you are a car far away and not a close motorbike. Does look stunning.
Although a little late to the party, I really enjoyed your build and the learn as you go philosophy. One day I will do my own build!
