I don't see why governments and in his words least of the israeli government should consult rabbis when the rabbis tell their flock not to do army service which by the way such abstention is COMPLETELY against the torah and when the same rabbis don't allow other jews to have public transport on shabbat those jews who do fight for their land.

Trust me you don't want to sit in such a position and waste a entire life and to be remembered as a backward coward.... and he doesn't even wonder why even a Jewish government doesn't consult with Rabbis.... does it bother him? Hummmmmm

He was no coward and he achieved much for Orthodox Judaism in the UK and beyond. His views on Israeli politics were not yours or mine but he wasn’t alone and he was entitled to his view. He raised huge sums of money for Israel and its institutions. He was buried in Israel and his son lives in Israel unlike his successor.
