This was from the Doors first album, possibly the greatest album in history. This album went gold *BEFORE* it was released. The long version of Light My Fire is fantastic but The End is just plain epic.

Great post! Going gold in the 60’s wasn’t like today. Record companies had to print the vinyl records and consumers had to go to the record stores and ask for the albums by name. That’s why The Monkees named one of their albums Head because they wanted people to ask the record store employees to give them Head. I swear that’s true! Now consumers can download songs so any song can go gold in minutes.

This song was written in1965, after Jim's love for soulfood from a restaurant, named Olivia's at Venice Beach, California. He references sleeping in the kitchen during a period of drunken nights
and early mornings. Great tune. Jim's great vocals and the band capturing your minds. Revisit Jordan. You'll love it. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦

Wow! I remember Olivia's Kitchen at Ocean Park and Main Street, actually in Santa Monica. My friends and I - economically challenged students that we were - would go there and eat for about $1.50 a meal, and it was deelish! I never knew this song was connected to Olivia's. One other side note, I saw the Doors with Jefferson Airplane at the long lost Cheetah, which was in Venice, when I was in high (no pun intended) school, the ticket was probably about $2.50.

First and foremost Jim Morrison was An American Poet who felt he lived on the edge, or to be more precise, at "the Doors" between this world and what ever comes after, (a great book to read "No One Here Gets Out Alive" Filmmaking was also his passion in college where he met Ray Manzarek and the words and music just worked in a most unique and haunting way that it was a candle that burned very brightly while it lasted. Props and respect to Robby Kreiger and John Densmore for being amazing at what they did for that band too!

The Doors are of my generation. I was in my early twenties in 1967. I was an au pair from Denmark in Westport Ct. Dated a university of Miami student, who was very much into photography. I have always loved the Doors. I have the book "No One gets out here alive", in the book there is a picture of Jim Morrison with a baby lamb, many years later I found out the guy I dated, Jeff Simon, took that picture, he was also a witness at the Miami trial of Jim Morrison, because he was at that concert and took pictures.

It might be best if you start your broader Doors education with Oliver Stone’s terrific and popular 1991 biopic THE DOORS, starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison (including vocals! Val actually sings as Jim and is frighteningly close to his exact sound!). Not only is it an incredible film that features the band’s music throughout (and you’ll get a good glimpse of how they performed as a live band) but it shows much of the overall insanity of the late 60s and early 70s and is truly unforgettable. Plus it has Billy Idol in a small supporting role! But if you see it you’ll be exposed to so much of their music in a relatively short time, and you’ll have a better overall picture of how their music progressed over the brief period they were together, and you’ll get an idea of what other songs of theirs you want to listen to more closely for this channel.

The Doors have been my favorite for the last 39 years of my life, and I am only 45. 😆 It makes me giddy every time you react to one of their songs. Here are some more Doors suggestions: Spanish Caravan, Five to One, The Crystal Ship, The Unknown Soldier, Alabama Song, Moonlight Drive, Back Door Man, and Love Street, to name some.
Funny story - I became obsessed with Jim Morrison at age 5 when my Dad and I were watching an old concert series that used to be on MTV in the early 80's and I would always ask, "are they still alive?" When my Dad informed me that Jim Morrison was dead, that was it, I was obsessed - don't know why. But, as a teen, I presented a persuasive speech about why Jim Morrison was still alive, and while all my friends had posters of New Kids on the Block on their walls, I had a 10'x10' canvas of Jim Morrison. Good times. 🤣 Though I no longer believe he is alive, I still adore him and the band.

That’s awesome! Great playlist too! Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin died a month apart in 1970 and Jim died 9 months later in July 1971, all members of the 27 club! I’m a huge Rush fan so I’m all about Freewill. I appreciate their contribution to the world of music, how many people they entertained and inspired, how many memories have their music as a soundtrack in my head, but I wish they had chosen to be less selfish and not do as much poison as they consumed so they could’ve stuck around longer, but that was their choice, it was their life, and I’m glad I lived in the same time as them.

The song Soul Kitchen is a tribute to the soul food restaurant Olivia’s Place, which stood at Ocean Park & Main Streets in Santa Monica, California. Santa Monica is a town next to Venice Beach, where Jim (mostly) lived while a student at UCLA. Jim often hung out at Olivia’s, studying, writing, and contemplating the world he saw. He, like many students, frequently stayed at the restaurant until closing hours, when the staff would be closing down for the night, thus the lyrics let me sleep all night, in your soul kitchen.

Jim wasn’t a singer who wrote poetry. He was a poet who just happens to sing. If you want a great song check out Alabam Song (Whiskey Bar) or the epic the End

There are a few videos of The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl in 1968. Moonlight Ride and The End should be good.

You have to see the video of them live in toronto doing the end. 1968 i believe. it's their best version of that song ever.

Morrison was the master of cool. I always thought Michael Hutchence (INXS) may have modeled himself after Jim Morrison.

You totally DO need to see good video of them doing their thing. And you could do the biopic The Doors on your movie channel. It's a trip.

Such a great band with a unique blues sound. Loved them growing up. Not sure where to post suggestions, so will drop one here: John Prine , that’s the way that the world goes round. Great song writer and great person. Big in the 70s on Austin city limits and in a movie with John Mellencamp. Truly enjoy your show, catch you videos every day, never heard soul kitchen before glad caught todays show.

Jim Morrison was the prototypical ROCK STAR. He had it all, including the fatal flaws, and he ran with it without using the brakes. The others in the band were also incredibly talented. Personally I think The Doors hold up better than pretty much any other 60's bands. These guys were decades ahead of everyone else.
