I know simple always jokes with "Hacks in current year are insane" but hacks in current year are insane. Like holy shit. This doesn't even look like SM64 anymore. It looks like someone just used the assets and put them into actual Half Life. Whoever made this should make more hacks, they're insanely talented and deserve more attention.

This brings up the question of how far a hack needs to go to be a different game.
This is why decomp is always such a HUGE step for the community. Both as a speedrunner and rom hacker. This is truly just insane what can be accomplished.
I am also really looking forward to OoT and what it's decomp will bring to their community with rom hacking/randomizer.

The attention to detail in this hack is insane. They even made it so when your camera clips out of bounds it looks like how it does in GoldSource.
Really went above and beyond yo remake that extra yet unnecessary yet charming detail

As someone who’s favorite game is Half-Life 1, seeing the story and mechanics integrated into a Super Mario 64 rom hack is something I don’t think anyone could have predicted. The rom hack community surrounding SM64 is in a league of their own

Fazana has a way of making things that provide an experience unlike anything else. They feel like a game you would dream about playing, then wake up, shrug it off, and years later you find out it was real the whole time.

This is incredibly impressive. I am stunned by the work and scripting and modeling that must have gone into this for a comp hack. I wasn't ready for it to hit this hard with quality, like this is a _lot_ of work and genuine passion going in to combine these games.

This straight feels like a source mod more than a Super Mario 64 mod, is genuinely insane
It's really cool to see Mario in Gordon's role and how all that would turn out, but I'm slightly disappointed that they didn't have Mario, you know, be an actual contracted plumber at Black Mesa, and you're tasked with like fixing a leaky toxic waste pipe or something before the resonance cascade goes off.

What Simple is referring to at 9:01 is Half-Life Decay, the two player co-op expansion for Half-Life. He decided to jump into an inescapable pit in the first level, triggering a GBJ, and Tyler’s highlights video is filled with people copying Jet Ericksen because of it.

This is way beyond the functionality that should be expected of a mario hack and really just blows apart what you think the limit of romhacking is
The Celeste Mario thing was all function and flawless at that.
But Neon Genesis Evitalian, while the gameplay is a bit scuffed, absolutely nailed the "crossover" aspect of the competition and was on point with rebuilding the broad strokes of NGE and EoE in those cutscenes

From what little half life I played on Orange Box before never touching again in favor of Portal and TF2, Block Mesa 64 was spot on and was absolutely incredible to see. It went above and beyond what I thought possible from Mario 64 ROM hacks
