Joy Crookes on the conversations inspiring her debut album Skin

Last week, Joy Crookes released her debut album Skin. A joyous album on which the British soul singer finds ways to translate the important conversations around her into beautifully arranged songs. Sagid Carter spoke with Joy for 3voor12 Radio to discuss last year’s political issues around the Black Lives Matter movement that led to the themes on the album. They also speak about Joy Crookes’ Bangladeshi background and the way conversations in the studio are a big part of the songwriting process.
