I’ve commented before, and before on your material control, but another striking skill is your clear explanation, thanks very much and cheers down the pub later.
Davy the best buzzer pattern I have ever seen love the new method with the Bug Bond and the wrapping of the stripped peacock Herl. Truely amazing and thanks for sharing. Mark R
Hi Davie! I begun to incorporate your style of breathers on all my Buzzer type patterns. Tying them separate gives the fly a completely different look. Thanks for your creativity!
Hello Davie, I love the videos and can sincerely appreciate the skill you posses in the art of fly tying. One request would be to add a list of materials at the start of the video. Thanks for the beautiful flies! Cheers
If I could automatically Like every video of yours I would in a second....maybe I'll take a day and do it anyways.. thanks for teaching me how to tie flies :)
Don't know what you think of this. I paint the head and a small area at the tail with white paint then varnish the whole lot. I make my buzzers more or less as you do but I don't bother with the breathers,
ive tied this pattern and its a trout catcher, only thing is it doesnt last long as the quill rib isnt protected. u could cover it in varnish but the bubble body effect is lost.
Hi Ayman Choudhery, I have attached a link to the floss I used for the breathers...waterswest.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=150 All the very best Davie
Hirouryglen, You can get a nice effect if you use a thick varnish which has got heavy with use, if it's too thin you'll not get a ribbed effect...You would also have to do the body first and tye off so that the body could dry before you tye on the wing buds... All the very best Davie
David, Chris Williams from Boise, Idaho recommended I watch your video and now I can see why. He and Steve Fernandez are guys I admire watching tie and you are in the same league. I will look into Veniards for materials and it really helps if you list them at the beginning of videos. Do you fish this super midge in smaller sizes and colors for spring Creeks, 20-22-24 ? Thanks for your expertise.
Hi Jack, You may struggle to tye them as small as the sizes you mentioned, I rarely tye these midge below a size 14 due to the sizes of the midge that hatch in our lochs...Chris and Steve are both amazing and very talented tyers so if I'm classed the same as them then I'm very happy to say the least...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for the kind words... All the very best Davie...
This is brilliant Davie, not sure why anybody wouldn't want the breathers on there - they look very realistic! I'm curious - if you don't mind of course - but what is your all time favourite buzzer pattern? I enjoy tying a wide range of flies, but there's something about a well finished buzzer that is very satisfying - they're almost like little jewels.. Thanks a lot Davie and keep up the fantastic videos!
Hi Stephen, I was a fishery manager for over 14 years and a pheasant tail nymph and the quilled buzzer caught me more fish then any fly in my box...I especially like pheasant tail fibre on the bodies of my flies as I have a lot of confidence with them as this is important as well...Thank you for the kind words... All the very best Davie..
Hello again Davie, I've just returned from a very frustrating but enjoyable day at Llyn Brenig, fishing nymphs and buzzers. I managed to hook into two fish where one knot failed and the other fish leaped clear of the surface and spat out the fly. There were fish rising occasionally all around but I had to work very hard all day for those two failed hook ups. This got me thinking back to this comment, I'm wondering what your go-to setup is for buzzer/nymph fishing on a reservior at this time of year? Hope you don't mind answering and non-tying related question! My setup was: a 9ft tapered leader || first 6" dropper || 5ft mono || second 6" dropper || 5ft mono || point fly so approx 18-19ft leader in total... in hindsight I'm thinking that I was probably fishing too deep all day? Hope you can help and thanks for the brilliant videos as always Steve
Would you fish this in dirty water Davie, also would you do a video for me showing how to match a left and right peackock herl wing for the Alexandria?
Hi Dewi Jones, Yes it would but it's also just as good in clear water as well..I have attached a link to the Alexandra which I hope helps you with your wing... All the very best Davie th-cam.com/video/BdPCvwhlRFw/w-d-xo.html
Hi, David, congatulations for your patterns!! I have a doubt with the stripped natural peacock quill, When I put it in place and start to spin around the hook I do not have a white side and a dark color is brown leaves Could you help me, please? Thank you very much!!
Hi Enrique Izquierdo Sanchez, What you have to do is try and find the biggest peacock eyes you can as these are the ones I buy and you should find the quills will be well marked..I hope this helps you and thank you very much for the kind words... All the very best Davie
Hi Electronic arts X, I do sell flies which I would sell on ebay but I have nothing at the moment because I am concentrating on making a few videos as many are having to stay at home ...I do link the flies I have selling on the community page here on TH-cam..Thank you for asking and for the kind words... All the very best Davie..
Davie, great tie, like always! Big fan! ;) Please, can you tell me how you stripped all Peacock eye, i'm begginer, if you can explain precisely and understandably. :)
HiSasaamann, I've attached a link to a good video in which you'll see how to remove the herl from the peacock eye for the quills.. I'm glad you like the flies and that you find my videos helpful to your tying... All the very best Davie th-cam.com/video/wCUFskWaKzc/w-d-xo.html
My problem is not making quill; with bleach is pretty easy! But I find your peacock eyes of better quality than the ones I find. Yours look wider and with more distinct dark and light nuances along the quill. Mine are more brown everywhere. Are all peacock eyes the same?
Hi *****, I buy the largest eyes I can buy and they come from a wholesale company hat supply many shops here in the UK called Veniards so if you know a shop that stocks their materials then ask them to buy in the extra large eyes and you should get the same as the ones I use.. All the very best Davie
Hi Davie, Thank you for your answer and explanation! I just have one more question: what happen if I use peacock herl instead of peacock eye? Of course bleached herl, so without "hair".
Hi Scotsman in the Philippines, We used epoxy resins and the one I mostly used was one that took 5 minutes to cure so it took a a little longer to make a few flies.. All the very best Davie..

Hi Davie, sorry if this is an obvious question but I am new to fly tying and fly fishing and need to ask it. For the wingbuds you listed Edge-Bright Flo-Orange. Is that by any chance known under a different name? I ask because I can't seem to find anything called "Edge-Bright"

The fly in this photo fascinated me even more than the trout.
Looks like a winner. Here on the west coast of California, this fly is definitely one of my go to flies. Fish on!!!! 🎣
