So goodbye Kenny/Neil/Barbra/Manilow. Here’s the Boss. A year earlier this would have been a big hit on pop stations. Imagine if it would of been the follow up to Islands in the Stream. It would have been up there with Lady. Two years too late.
I just watched an interview with Richard Marx and he talked how he wrote this song for Kenny and Kenny added 2 words (for me) near the end of the song and because of that he took 50% of the songwriting royalties. Fyi, Marx wasn't bitter about it at all. He said that's how the music biz works and it launched his career.
I felt like I lost my grandpa today. I grew up on his music and still appreciated the richness of the lyrics and his voice even today. This is my favourite song of his! God grant his loved ones peace 🙏
