You're right rather than feeding the people we should spend another 3 b on landlords that won't bring down rent. Maybe a few million on vanity projects like the TPB for further corporate exploitations on natural resources is money better spent.

    ABSURD.
    1) there shouldn’t be food banks in NZ in the first place
    2) if they are short of money the govt needs to step up and fund them properly.
The govt is essentially guilty of staving its people.

All my life food banks have existed for those struggling. I have stood in the line off K road Auckland a few times. Now i make small donations on a regular basis to NZ charities.
In a modern just society every citizen should be able to take comfort that the government and the people of their country will provide the basic necessities of life for them when they need it. Every person regardless of their decisions or circumstances should know that ,housing and clothing, food, water, access to healthcare, education, and employment/ business ownership support will be there for them. No human asks to be born, but EVERY human born deserves to be able to live in dignity, comfort, and with support when needed.

@@logicalanswer3529 Owe? The role of the government is actually to provide a nation that enables its citizens to flourish by providing housing, jobs, hospitals and yes FOOD to ensure a country can thrive. What would happen in NZ if 50k plus people were left to famine to death? It's a small country. We would essentially become a third world country. Now before you imagine you could handle seeing dead bodies dead children on the streets have a gooooood think now, use your brain. If you personally access roads, hospitals, schools, teachers, public services of ANY capacity throughout your lifetime, that is the goverment owing you. Duh.

@@logicalanswer3529Those poor people willingly handed their money to the wealthy tobacco, alcohol and casino companies. Because those are the only reasons why they are poor right? They chose to rent, so landlords could have a passive income. That’s what they get, right? They should have had a lump of start up capital to begin with and opened businesses, where they could figure out ways to maximise their profit and bring their “running costs” down to a minimum? Disgusting peasants, right? Good for nothing? Should put the 12 hour work days in, right? They just don’t get the grind, do they? They just don’t have the vision? Is that what you think?
