But there is a safe way to straighten natural hair and it reverts just fine when wet…I’ve seen it so many times. My aunt is a cosmetologist..one of the best I’ve experienced in my life and my hair ALWAYS reverts back to its natural state after being just flat ironed.
If he didn’t put a chemical in her hair, he most certainly put too much heat on her hair, and without the proper preparations before straightening. That’s the only way her hair would go from curling the way it did, to being bone straight only after he styled her hair.

It was Keratin and not lye. They also call the keratin treatments amino acid treatments Keratin does do this to your curly hair when they apply heat and it bonds to the hair. Happened to my 4a curly hair same outcome and it makes the hair weak and limp. My hair was natural and thick and below my bra at the back.. When I wet it my hair for a long time afterward it went straight instead of curly -- I wear natural hair and it took like 3 yrs to grow all that straight hair limp treated hair out. The new growth was normal and the ends were basically terrible fro that keratin treatment.

Yeah they use keratin treatment when you get a press or they use that flat iron. I went to a Dominican salon and my hair was pressed bone straight but I have naturally cutlry 4a hair and it's thick and I don't use chemicals in my hair... heat does not take my curls away to the point where my hair is still straight when I wet it... Keratin bonding when heat is applied does cause the hair to become straight like this. Years later I have a new Dominican salon and I told them I don't want Keratin -- they said we don't add treatments like that for a press unless you ask for it. Very big difference in the outcome... I wet my hair and of course the curl pattern was relaxed but at least it bounced back after a couple washes. with the keratin treatment my hair was simply limp and weak and not curling. I think for each person outcomes are going to differ with keratin but I think its beneficial to ppl that want to keep their hair straight. I think he should have never used the aminos traetment which is what they call keratin...

This case presents an intriguing situation. If the defendant did indeed cause damage to her hair as she alleges, there are several steps she could have taken to substantiate her claim. While I can't personally relate to her hair type, it seems essential for the plaintiff to provide evidence to support her case. For instance, documenting the defendant's countertop with his hair care products could have been beneficial. Although hair care isn't my main focus, the defendant's information did come across as quite convincing. So, again, it's up to the plaintiff to prove her suspicion. Judge Milian's observation about the lack of evidence is noteworthy - photographic evidence or a professional assessment from another establishment could have bolstered her case. I empathize with her frustration, particularly in attempting to articulate her suspicion about the use of a chemical. However, in the legal realm, repetition alone doesn't suffice as proof.

im pretty sure she lost because she couldnt prove her case. in court when youre sueing somebody for 5grand, evidence is king and u better be able to prove it, and not with words or "understanding" of hair. theres no question that something happened to that lady's hair....but thats not the issue at hand. the issue is, WHO is responsible for it? she says the dude ruined her hair with chemicals, the dude says he didnt put any chemicals and that she ruined her own hair by wearing those military style braids. when he pointed out that the braids hairstyle she does causes her hair to be dry brittle and weak, she couldnt even argue against that. she didnt even try. not even the minimal "thats not true". she just kept repeating that he put chemicals and pointing to how her hair was an entire year ago. yet she has 0 pictures of her hair from beginning of 2021 to the june appointment....its because her hair was already messed up like the stylist said. she sued him. she has to prove what shes saying.

Not if it's keratin amino treatment which many salons will use and combined with heat it bonds to the hair shaft. that's why your hair look and feels smooth, straight and silky but it can make your hair damn near impossible to curl up when you wet it and the only thing you can do is grow it out to regain your natural texture in some instances. I only straightened my hair once at a salon and keratin treatment was used for real the press and the same thing happened.

Not if it's keratin .. he did use the amino treatment which is keratin... Keratin wrecked my 4a curls took so long and I had to grow it out. I never used a relaxer or had one applied but the keratin treatment coupled with the press is basically bonding the keratin to your hair and that makes it bone straight and sometimes weak. The curl pattern I think is damaged and not just disrupted for a while. This was my experience.

*PLEASE* stop mentioning that one-sided, poor excuse for an “educational” film (Good Hair). 😩😫🤦🏽‍♀️ You could learn 1000% more by simply watching some of the documentaries here on TH-cam. Also, it is very possible that he did sneak a chemical into her hair, because they do it at the Dominican Salons all the time. The judge doesn’t understand why he would give her a treatment that she didn’t pay for, and the answer to that is: to achieve the desired straightness, to keep her coming back. Just like they do with those blow-outs. Also, HEAT DAMAGE can sometimes mimic chemical straightening, so it’s also possible that he damaged her hair through the flat-ironing process. Either way, he definitely did SOMETHING, and those of us who know and understand natural Black hair can clearly see that. She’ll have to cut those straight ends off, and start over

You cannot get black hair straight like that without a chemical. He made a mistake and is telling a story.Judge you are killing me. I wouldn’t tell anyone you looked at documentary by Comedian Chris Rock about black hair with a straight face. My relatives love the man but I have never liked him. I haven’t seen the documentary but I have never heard of him having any formal training in hair. I am a pharmacist if he as a comedian wrote a documentary on medications for eczema I would not seriously look at it. You cannot look at your whole head close enough even with all the mirrors in the world to do this on a regular basis and not measure hair up real bad just like her hair looks.... I'm gonna tell you in my opinion what I think happened she'd been crochet braiding her hair And after a while it really tore it up and she wants to blame someone else... I have seen where people do their own crochet braiding and after about a year or so they have bald patches very uneven hair thin spots scraggly dried out ends it's bad. Even a professional who's not really good can damage your hair but there's no way you can see your own hair close up enough to know where to place the hook and pull the fake hair through without damaging the other hair around it with mirrors- especially if you're doing it on a regular basis. She should’ve went to judge mablene or something because Milian is unfortunately clueless on this issue. Not cutting split ends can make your hair frizzy and unhealthy, but not bone straight. His defense was not a justification for how her hair looked. It was extremely straight after her visit to him, and didn’t revert back to curly. It should have reverted regardless of damaged ends 😑

😤😤🤬Now I love JM but this case just pissed me right the hell on off!! At this point if you don't know about our texture of hair then you either need to get yourself an expert since you takes so many of these cases, or she needs to do more research because any person that knows even a little bit about our hair knows damn well no matter how damaged your hair is unless there's some type of processing whether it be straightening, color, bleaching etc. that your curl pattern will return your ends may have some damage absolutely, but for your whole curl pattern to disappear from 1 silk press is absolutely ridiculous. No ma'am! 😔 And this man knows he is lying through his damn teeth and I hate that for her and I hate that for him I don't know exactly what he did to her hair but what I do know is that that girl's hair looked the same as 95% of us when we wet our hair before she came to him and then when she went back to get the same thing there ain't no way from one silk press that there would be that much damage where your curl pattern is completely gone after applying moisture to it. I don't care I don't care argue with your mama!!!

It seems like she already had damage (which is why she conveniently only had photos from years before instead of a month or so before the alleged sneaking of chemicals) ignored his advice to cut it bc LOTSSSS of natural women hold onto damaged ends for dear life to maintain length and when her damaged curls wouldn’t revert after applying all that heat…. She mad.
Let’s ignore all of that and just use basic logic… Use my hard earned money to buy products to randomly sneak into my clients hair for free????

  • @TRene-up9zq

Relaxers are not the only chemical straightened treatment’s .Keratin treatment will also straighten the hair and the first process she said he did to her hair actually sounds like a keratin treatment. However, looking at the pics her hair to seemed to be severely damaged and will required several treatment to restore or she can do a big chio and start over. You can have natural hair and get a keratin treatment will take approximately 4-6 months for treatment to fully grow out the hair depending on length but one hair can still remain in a seemingly healthy state if taken care of properly. Her hair just seems to be damaged, probably from the beginning like the stylist said. Or he could’ve also severely heat damaged her hair. So there’s a few factors in play here.
