You'll like this, not a lot but you'll like it!
You beat me to it.😂

Ditto
He wasn't a comedian as such though he was often very funny. He was a magician and a very good one at that. Paul was awarded the "Magician of the Year" Award by the Academy of Magical Arts in 1982, the first magician from outside the United States to receive it. He also won the Golden Rose of Montreux in 1985. He was a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star. He has been described as "The Godfather of Magic" and has been repeatedly credited with inspiring many top magicians to start in the profession. He also had his own TV show for 16 years!
He was THE British magician for probably a couple of decades. No-one's replaced him.
Paul Daniels, The Master British Magician, he was all over the place 80's, 90's.
Paul Daniels was a huge star in the 1970s and 80s in the UK. He was a superb magician and his slight of hand and card magic was brilliant. My favourites were always the card magic. There was a lot of really bad light entertainment television before alternative comedy, but this man was great. He wasn't a comedian, but he could be funny and he was a true showman. I loved him when I was a kid.
Thanks for a great reaction. Paul Daniels was legendary in his time and he had a very successful magic show for many years on British TV. I used to be captivated by him. A while back, he took part in a show which took very well known people over here and tried to reinvent them in the US, where they were virtually unheard of. In order to try & keep his identity unknown, he was rebranded as 'EL Dani' or something like that. He managed to get a stage gig & it was really well received but he was getting on in years by then & they felt he wouldn't make it unless he went on as himself, It's on TH-cam somewhere, as are a good portion of his shows. I watched through a number of them earlier this year & don't feel that they've aged at all. He's sadly passed away now but his legendary status lives on. Perhaps most famous for making £1 million disappear from a locked safe.
Always remember when his wife Debbie McGeee who often(?) appeared on stage with him was being interviewed my Mrs Merton (Caroline Ahearn) and was asked 'and what first attracted you to your millionaire husband Paul Daniels. Most UK folks of a certain age and sensibility with remember the Mrs Merton character.
As a child of the 80s, Paul Daniels was a delight. We never missed an episode of The Paul Daniels show. A true legend of British light entertainment.
Paul Daniels was the master of old-school fairground and street corner bunko, as well as stage magic with larger props. An absolute legend.
One of the best and most entertaining magicians ever
Facts bro
His magic show on a Saturday evening was required watching back in the 80s, he was just fantastic in front of the camera. And was very popular from the 70s into the 90s. Please do some more videos from him, what a legend.
I so wish there was an archive of all the good shows from back then.
Gone but not forgotten. Master of many tricks & a great entertainer.
Magicians seemed to have disappeared from TV now.
Much as Bob Monkhouse was known as "The Comedian's Comedian", Paul Daniels was recognised, worldwide, as "The Magician's Magician."
In his prime, Daniels was the Magician all other magician's wanted to be.
You can NOT go wrong with Paul Daniels...... He WAS a GENIUS at his craft
Alan, this guy was on British TV for years, i used to love his show very clever.
I would recommend you watch his appearance at the Wheeltappers and Shunters in 1975, his act before he went full on magic.
Best wishes from Wales.
He was a master of his craft and his Saturday night tv show was a great family event
Back in the day this guy was a real legend
Any uk people remember Wizbit? Paul and Debbie . Classic 80s TV. The good days
Oh yes. Forgotten about that
Plenty of episodes uploaded on youtube.
Oh god, yes, yes I remember.
Ha ha this-a-way, ha ha that-a-way, ha ha this-a-way, my oh my....
Yes! He was a good game show host on Every Second Counts too.
Paul Daniels like many British comedians especially in the 80s and 90s, also presented quiz and game shows.
Most British quiz and game shows today are still presented by comedians, although younger people might not realise that they're also comedians.
Paul was a excellent entertainer/magician
He was massive in the 80s Al I was only a kid but was always mesmerized watching him then. Glad ya enjoyed it buddy and 50 quid was a lot of money back in the 80s lol
He was THE UK magician and had a long career, and his own show, for many years. His number plate on his Rolls Royce was MAG1C (or MA61C)
Had the joy of seeing his show on Blackpool Pier. Made my dad stand up to show off his beard and my nan had her hands clasp and said ‘no point praying, it doesn’t get any better’
Paul Daniels was one of the world's top magicians and was and probably still is the best magician that Britain ever had. Its funny you mention Penn and Teller, because when they first appeared on British tv about 35 years ago, Paul had them on his show, but nit ling after had a bit of a falling out with them, because he was on the board of the inner magic circle, and he disagreed with their new :(at the time) show where they gave away secrets of the tricks they were doing, which for the magic circle was a big no-no.
Eventually though they reconciled their difference's and became very good friends, he even appeared on the first series of their fool us show. He was a very high calibre magician, as good as, if not better than the likes of David Copperfield (another friend of his) and he did have some success on American tv, and great success with his live shows in Americaa, and worldwide.
But as good a magician and entertainer as he was, he wasnt very goid at DIY apparently, after cutting his own finger off in 2012 with a circular saw, in his garden shed, whilst preparing props for some of his tricks. He also wasnt a fan of newer magicians or comedians, and although he was an amazing magician, especially in the early days, and a great tv gameshow host, and also at one point had a great kids fantasy tv show that i remember from when i was a youngster, he progressively got more bitter and became a bit of a grumpy old bastard the older he got, which in tur,n turned people off of him, his popularity wained and he had to try and stay relevant by going on reality shiws such as celebrity big brother, celebrity wife swap, Strictly Come Dancing and various other non magic related shows.
Luckiky after accidentally curptting off his fingers the hospital was able to reattach them, but unfortunately about 4 years later Paul had a fall, for which he attended the hospital. And it was during the hospitals medical checks after his fall that it was found that he had a brain tumour, which he succumbed to not too long after.
But despite his faults, he didnt do too bad for a Grocer's son from the north east who was born just before the 2nd world war kicked off. In his life, he was very successful. Very rich. Very opinionated. Very entertaining. Tv is a bit §hitter for not having him on it anymore.
I’m a magician performed chop cup countless times also know many who have done the same but never seen it performed nearly as well as Paul Daniel’s truly is a legend
Oh I miss Paul Daniels Saturday night show. He was so entertaining. Lots of magic from Paul plus maybe a singer and a surprise act from someone different every week and was always an amazing act. Trampoline, rollerskating, trapeze, crossbow, quick change, magician. So many.
Paul Daniels even did the magic for The Phantom of the Opera in the West End.
His catchphrase at the time was, 'You'll like it. Not a lot, but you'll like it.' And helped to pave his way into the mainstream of television for well over a decade during the late 70's, 80's and into the 90's. Not only a great magician, but a consummate TV show host, which is why he did quiz shows like, 'Odd One Out', as well as his renowned, 'magic show', that must have ran for at least 10 years. He was a household name, and no mistake.
Every famous magician in the world rates paul Daniels as an inspiration xx❤️❤️
All these comedians and others from the 70s were working the tough working mens clubs and learnt their profession from being booed off every night, so they had to perfect it. Real entertainers.
There was another infamous Paul Daniels trick where he had 2 members of the audience get stuck to a couple of chairs on stage. Another vid to check out?
Google:
What did Mrs Merton say to Debbie McGee?
From The Mrs Merton Show when she famously asked Debbie McGee, "So, what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"
Debbie McGee was Pauls wife.
Newton Edward Daniels (6 April 1938 - 17 March 2016), known professionally as Paul Daniels, was an English magician and television presenter. He achieved international fame through his television series The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran on the BBC from 1979 to 1994.
Daniels was known for his catchphrase "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it!".
The "millionaire" quote was taken in good humour and Debbie McGee did genuinely love Paul Daniels a lot.
always love the cups and balls trick no matter who does it, but the one cup version by Paul is the best
One of the all time greats and from my hometown
There are quite a few videos of Paul Daniels doing his magic.
you got to remember this was 40 years ago even the magicians now days said he was one of the best ever
One of the very best, at close up magic.
RIP paul Daniels, a great entertainer ❤❤❤
In his telly days, he endorsed a commercial range of thousands of pocket money conjuring trick sets, like trick cards and cup-and-ball illusion, ranging from simple to more advanced tricks, right up to full magic compilation sets. I think I still have one or two of the bits of these somewhere.
I used to live in a place called Reading and I worked for B&Q there and Paul would often go shopping there (according to a few other co workers, including my mother who also worked there).
So glad to see you enjoyed this so much.
Paul Daniels for many, many years was by far the UK's most famous, most popular magician. Just as big if not bigger than Penn and Teller or David Copperfield are in the US.
Good seeing you uploading more frequently again.
Paul and his son went on penn and tellers fool us,
the phantom of the opera .
Had the Paul Daniels Show at a theatre I managed for the Summer season. Great business, great show. Nice man and if I remember correctly Karen Kay was a guest star. Her son, Jay Kay, of Jamiroquai is probably better known today!
I hope you find more of Paul, the guy was great
A master of his craft. Even if you know how it's done and can tell when he loads the cups with the fruit he doesn't flash any part of them
Talent
Penn and teller loved Paul Daniels... Well loved in the magic circle
He hated them. With a passion. He viewed them as giving the game away. He was a traditionalist. They annoyed the old guard. Teller is a life long member of the magic circle.
I've always loved Paul Daniels another great entertainer we've lost you've got to see his magic cattle act and he had a catch phrase you'll like this not a lot but you'll this.❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Paul Daniel’s said that knowing how a trick was done and knowing how to do it were completely different matters. And he was correct.
Back in the day, he was Mr Primetime TV, his show was watched by millions....... I actually seen one of his shows in the 70's - - - still think it was brilliant. Seen Penn and Teller in Vegas too, hard to decide which was better, but nearly 50 years on I still remember the Paul Daniels show
Paul & his Son was on an episode of Pen & Teller Fool Us. You should watch that one, it’s very different to this
Did anyone else have the Paul Daniels Magic Set as a kid? :)
I walked past Paul Daniels once in the street. He was wearing a bright purple jacket. I said Hello, and commented on the pleasant colour of his jacket. I'm about 6ft tall and was into Gothic Rock at the time, and was dressed all in black with make up and white face. He must have been about 5ft as he didn't even come up to my shoulders. It was evening time, so was getting dark. Anyhow, when I said Hello, he had a look of extreme horror on his face and ran into the nearby KFC. 😆
He made himself disappear. You may like it,not a lot,but you'll like it.
Someone has already mentioned one of my favourites, the Bunko booth , old fairground cons.
Paul met his wife, Debbie, when she was a backing dancer in his show which was there for the summer season in my home town
Try to find Paul Daniels doing The Magic Kettle. It is mind boggling. One of the best magic tricks I have ever seen. I defy you to figure it out. Highly recommended.
Very skilled magician ❤
He used to do a part of the show called the Bunco Booth (I think) and it was tricks, slight of hand, old magic and it was genius
Paul Daniels Magic show on Saturday night tv used to pull in 29 million viewers in the late 1970s.
A lot of us fancied his wife (Debbie McGee back then) and wondered how he managed to get her ........ then we realized "That's Magic" and probably some big balls in his cup ;)
He was on Penn & Teller's Fool Me, with his son & yes they DID fool P & T
slight of hand is far better than the big fancy illusions
Back in the 80s Paul Daniels & Debbie McGee were on the telly more than Ronnie Raygun and Maggie Thatcher.
I'm sure Paul went on Penn and Teller Fool Me with his wife Debbie, I think P&T were fans of Pauls.
It was with his Martin.
@@ListerDavid ^ his son, Martin :)
@@ListerDavid That's right, I knew it wasn't Paul himself.
If you wanna see a master magician check out 'Dynamo' where he walked across the River Thames in London, or walked down the front of a building, or shrunk peoples I-Phones and put them inside a bottle! Mindblowing stuff, as is his hovering alongside a London double decker bus driving through town!
I like your new backdrop... reminds me of the TV show "Knightmare" (!)
Domino in Brazil was astounding.
Paul had the car registration plate MAG1C
Once saw him in 1971 in the Kirkstall Liberal Club in Leeds Yorkshire.England.
Daniels was born in Middlesbrough Yorkshire. England.
Great video 👍 A classic magician and No I don't want to know how he did it!😮
He was also a fantastic esapologist and I remember watching in horror when his guillotine act supposedly went wrong. A true genius.
And the RS200 driving through the box he was locked in on the race track. Or wasn't as it turned out.
Great Saturday evening entertainment in front of the idiot box.
When the idiot box had quality programmes week in week out
@@russellbradley454 agreed RB, & produced fewer idiots. When common sense was the rule not the exception. 😱
Mick Miller, please? Mick Miller, please? Mick Miller, please. :o) He's another '70s/'80s comedian, and I believe he's still kicking around, and a very funny chap!
"You'll like this,... but not a lot!"
You want to see his wife… Debbie McGee. She was his assistant in later shows. FIT!
Brilliant conjurer!
Looking back (not this was rather a bit later on in his career) realised how much I really miss Paul bless him! He was really funny!
Please check out George Carl on The Paul Daniels show, he was an American mime, just genius.
Paul Daniels Mr Saturday night entertainment at it's best, i never understood why they took him off air. The godfather of British magicians I don't know if you have checked out the Halloween special but if you haven't you should definitely check that out at Halloween. It made headlines, the news the lot.
Like a lot of performers of that time he started in working mens' clubs - some of which had a reputation for not taking prisoners i.e. if they didn't like you/your act you soon got to know and you best get off. they had to develop a way of getting the audience on side
Paul Daniels and Roy Chubby Brown were both born in the same town, Middlesbrough in the North East of England!
And Bob Mortimer
when Paul passed away i was stunned at how revered he was all over the world by magicians and performers alike. i guess i was just too young to appreciate him.
Penn and Teller had his son Martin Daniels on their show fool us, th-cam.com/video/mYF4U_5MMg4/w-d-xo.html
I used to love the guest acts he had on. Thanks you wouldn't see now, like the bloke smoking ridiculous numbers of cigarettes, at the same time, or the guy who blew amazing soap bubbles. Real family entertainment.
I remember when he died on air....
Hello EB, I enjoy your reactions. I would like to recommend Ken Goodwin. Don't know if you have already seen him. Keep it up Kevin
Paul Daniels was a magician who was slightly funny i don't recall him on wheel tapers.his catch frase was not alot.checkout tommy cooper he will make you laugh harder than watching norman collier.tommy coopers routine of producing multiple bottles is my favourite. Cooper was a good magician but came across as a fool you only needed to look @ tommy cooper &:you laugh. Tommy was just daft.
some of the huge magic set pieces he did with his wife I'm still convinced she was twins
❤
paul daniels is not a comedian , hes a magician. His assistant , Debbie Magee , is his wife .
* His assistant, Debbie is his widow.
R.I.P. Paul Daniels.
👍👏😂❤
Now *this* to me is magic. I really don't like magicians like David Blaine, because he uses far too many gimmicks that anyone can buy and learn pretty quickly. You can tell that this routine was practiced and practiced over and over again to get it *this* polished. His sleight of hand is superb - even though you can see at each point where he's putting the new object under the cup, you never actually see the object itself until it is revealed. It's a funny, entertaining routine, but for me, the thing I appreciate the most is the work that went in to perfecting it.
One of his famous catchphrases was - You'll like this, not a lot but you'll like this!
I agree Alan that David Blaine's not really entertaining enough i prefer British street magician DYNAMO his illusions are mind blowing . But Paul Daniels was the UK's no.1 magician back in te day .
Now then Debbie, what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?
His wife was a sort around 20 years younger than him, it’s probably what killed him.
He was good, even though, sometime, he thought he was the best.
He was good, but got a bit annoying after years of having his own show on BBC, who unceremoniously dumped him after years of Saturday night TV and Christmas specials, he was thought of as old fashioned, and I think most magicians of his ilk were dropped too.
Chris has to be the worst audience plant ever.
Magician not a comedian
Not to my taste. An accomplished magician but i just do not find him funny
1 of the best ever classic tv was on his show.the bloke lighting cigarettes constantly then swallowing them.& Was he the same man blowing smoke through bubbles?I'll let you Google it
