  • Packed with nutrients, kale powder is truly a superfood! Just 1-2 teaspoons (about 1 cup fresh kale) can count as a serving of vegetables. This is definitely a food you want to preserve and have shelf stable year round.
Today we are freeze drying kale. By using a food processor and adding a bit of water, we can preserve a large amount of kale at one time. This method can be used for both freeze drying and dehydrating kale or other greens.
Watch until the end to see how we utilize kale powder to sneak some extra veggies to our kids in our fruit smoothie recipe.

I have been freezing my kale for smoothies for years, so may look into purchasing a FD. I see the great advantage for storage space. Do you vacuum seal your quart jar and/or use an oxygen or moisture absorber in the dried powder? Or does it get eaten quickly enough to avoid that. Thanks for showing us the process!

I vacuum seal my jars if I have more than one. In this case, we will be actively using this powder very soon, and in my experience it doesn't rehydrate quickly. Thanks for watching!
