    Pro Tip: Start by creating components and then design each one separately. This will reduce your history at the bottom and you can make changes to the components that won't affect other components in the model. That makes making changes a lot easier.

      Seriously! I was getting anxiety watching the bodies piling up. Turing bodies into components will save you so much time if you ever need to make a change in the timeline.

    By creating all of your holes using sketches and cylinders, you make it more difficult to go back and edit the hole dimensions later if you have to dig into a sketch to find the dimension rather than just editing the hole feature which is front and center on your timeline.

    Did a review on his course a bit ago on my channel. It's really detailed. I would highly recommend it for new users. 1 tiny improvement I would like to see is a index of timestamps on the video of where the commands are. Other than that 10/10!

    It's been a learning curve to teach myself, but the university of TH-cam has helped. Problem is I have specific "why tf did it do that" or "wtf is it doing" type situation. "Saving" a file kills me. Need to take a class just on that... At any rate it's a love hate relationship and I'm glad so far it's worked ok for me.

    Why do you turn such a simple thing like creating holes into such a complicated operation? The whole sketching and extruding cylinders into new bodies, cutting, rotating, moving, cutting again can be accomplished by 2 sketches and 2 hole features. Holy crap I could not work like that.

    • @piorism
      @piorism ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, it absolutely isn't - and an application like Fusion360, despite being very powerful, can make things unnecessarily unpleasant because of how incredibly glitchy it can be. By all means don't get discouraged by it though, because even though things like 3d modeling and programming are very, very complex, they can 100% be learned with a logical approach to learning and a bit of patience.

    I'm fully aware I'm gonna sound like your internet armchair expert, although I'm really trying not to hate. But this was bad, really bad. This video should start with an exclaimer that it is NOT a tutorial on how to properly use F360 (or any parametric history-based CAD for that matter), but just a quick'n'dirty* way to have someone create a model with no regards to good practice, efficiency and robustness whatsoever (* not really quick, but pretty dirty). He basically gave her a short lecture in "How to use real CAD software as if it was SketchUp".
    Just some random points, make of it what you will:
    0) I get that this is not a proper introduction to CAD software and all, but at least give her a 5-minute rundown. Like, these are the main bits of the gui, here are the most important buttons and stuff. Go a little into how almost anything is created as some type of extruded feature based on profiles and paths; how geometry is defined by dimensions (not the other way round) and other constraints ... You know, just the most basic stuff.
    1) Wherever you can, choose a datum that is likely to stay there for good. For example, do not glue sketches on part surfaces (if you can help it). There is a good chance your model will explode at some point when editing/removing that datum surface (no, that's not just an issue with FreeCAD's notorious TNP; it's kind of bad practice with any CAD software).
    2) Think a little before you rush in and create a bunch of sketches for a single body where one would have been enough. There can be valid reasons for either approach (not cluttering up a single sketch vs. not cluttering up your history tree and so on), but what's the point stacking cylinders on top of each other (while also doing (1)) when you could've just created one very simple profile for a rotational extrusion .... At least try to make a conscious decision (based on reasons), is what I'm trying to say, I guess.
    3) Also ... Creating simple cylindrical holes in the frame as boolean operation with tool bodies?! Can you get any more complicated ...
    (I'm not a CAD guy. I'm just some rando from the internet. So pls take anything I said with a spoon of salt, check with proper sources and whatnot.)

  • @joeboxter3635
    @joeboxter3635 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem with fusion 360 is it breaks standard software gui conventions we have are familiar and expect. 360 is also inconsistent in how features work. Some might say buggy. Having someone next to you means they help you avoid these problems.
    She's watching. Do the same, let her drive, and see these two issues.

  • @saltwaterrook4638
    @saltwaterrook4638 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, he screwed up. All Fusion pros know, the first step should be "create new component". Besides that, this is probably the worst guy to give a Fusion tutorial. He has no clue how do do this correctly. This is also why TH-cam is the bane and blessing of professional designers/fabricators. You get idiots claiming to be experts teaching people to be future idiots and then the false information becomes a cancer.
