  • In the twelfth episode of the Gospel in Life series "Discovering the Gospel in Every Book of the Bible", Tim Keller looks at the book of Ezra and the book of Nehemiah together.
Each episode from this series highlights themes that point to the Gospel and help you discover the overarching narrative of God’s Word in every book - Christ coming into the world to save us from our sins and reconcile us to God the Father.

I really wish someone would touch on the fact that Jesus says “I never knew you” and not “you never knew me”. Surely there must be some sort of distinctive reason he did.

Hello! Your question intrigued me. I've kept it in mind. Listen to Keller in the message "What we learn from strong people." In the end of the sermon, I think Jesus answers this question.

If i may add some thoughts:
It's more important that He see us and know us because we are incapable within our own sinful selves of ever seeking God in order that He know us. If Jesus said, "get away from Me, you never knew Me, " would imply that the seeker didn't seek hard enough or correctly. It is not for us to fulfill works in order to be known by Him but rather being known is partly found in the recline of our heart and will where we receive our Savior and allow Him reign and freedom in all we are.
I can read His Word but never allow it entrance into my being where changes are made and I believe that to be an example of refusing to be known.
Anyone disagree or have more, I'm also interested in the perspective.
