You’ve hit the problem squarely - he didn’t. No SA - situational awareness - whatsoever. He was oblivious to where he is, the instruction to remain clear of class B, and the passenger jets climbing straight toward him from the runway below - the whole “v” in VFR.
Thinking through the scenario one step further - Aside from the obvious mid air collision, he’s taking a huge risk flying right through the wake of the much larger jets. ATL elevation is 1026, so he’s flying at less than 2500 AGL, which leaves little margin for a major upset recovery. All it would take is one of the jets flying over him instead of under, and maybe the last thing he sees through the windscreen is ground-sky-ground-sky-ground-sky?-nopeground spinning madly. I’m being a little glib, but what he did was profoundly dangerous and foolish on more than one level.

It's a shame he's forgotten that 91.503 paragraphs (a)(3) and (d) say, respectively, that he must not only have the pertinent charts, he's actually required to look at them.
In fact the FAA could not make it easier. There is an "Atlanta Flyway" chart specifically for planning VFR outside the TRACON class B. Bold blue friendly lines show a path west then south. There are waypoints for a GPS too. The recommended route would have been:
    - Remain outside 12 NM from ATL VORTAC
    - Remain below 3000 feet.
    - Use loose RNAV to avoid traffic concentration.
    - West departure following Interstate 20, pass near VPLRF
    - Left turn south, pass River Bend and VPKNM.
    - South, pass VPJBF, then:
    - Direct Thomaston-Upson airport. May climb, remain below 4000 feet.
    - After crossing highway west of Peachtree City, remain below 5000 feet.
    - After crossing west of Atlanta Regional Falcon airport, near transmission lines, remain below 6000 feet.
    - Outside 30 NM from ATL, no altitude restriction.
Navigate using Atlanta Terminal Area chart and Atlanta Sectional (destination airport is just beyond the southern edge of the TAC).

Personally not a fan of the new introductory information being read aloud. I loved how the prior intros didn't take much time at all before going into the ATC communications / radar / animations. I can read the introductory information at my own pace; if I needed more time, I can pause the video.
I'd maybe also not mind the intro if it didn't scroll upwards; if the information were all on-screen at once, I could read it and skip ahead if I didn't want to listen to the whole intro. As it is now, I have to skip far enough to a point where the full intro is readable, then skip further ahead after reading it myself (I also personally don't think citing liveATC verbally is necessary in the intro, maybe as an outro? but a link has already been in the description in all videos so /shrug).
That said, this is probably preferential for some, and it's cool to see you trying different things. The video itself remains very high quality. Love the content.

I'm trying hard to think up a reason why the King Air pilot decided to fly that course and altitude. Surely...SURELY...he knew that ATL was just ahead of him and to the left. How could he *not* know?? And to just go bombing through there...amazing! The *only* thing I can think of is that the pilot assumed that he'd been "handed-off" to Atlanta Approach, like he would've been if he'd been IFR. But in fact, Fulton County Tower did no such thing. They cut him loose and said "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!" Then he asked Tower if he could contact Atlanta, and the Tower controller was, like, "Uhhhh, what? Sure, I don't care what you do. I've told you to remain clear of the Bravo, so you're on your own, baby!" And in the back of the King Air pilot's mind, he's thinking to himself, "Did I file VFR or IFR for this one? Hmm. Ahh well, better to ask for forgiveness than permission, I guess. Wait...is that a 767 ahead of me? Ooopsie!"

I have a question about a similar situation. I was on a VFR helicopter flight. We needed to enter class B for part of our mission so we flew to a field just outside the class B and contacted the tower. The tower gave us a squawk code and confirmed radar contact. After a few minutes they gave us permission to enter the class B and complete our mission. When we were done a few minutes later, we contacted the tower and told them we were out. They told us to resume 1200 and VFR operations. When we landed, the tower at our landing airport (not the tower at the class B airport) called and gave us a number for a possible pilot deviation. It turned out to be TRACON. The pilot told the person at that number that he had clearance from the tower. My question is, are you required to file with TRACON to enter class B or is what he did (with me on board) legal?

It is my understanding that the outer rings of the bravo are Tracom's domain and the inner sector is the tower's domain. Usually, you contact tracom for permission and if you need to cross the inner ring they coordinate with the tower. When the pilot "exited the Bravo" did he just exit the inner core but was still inside the outer core bravo or under it? Usually, they tell you to squawk vfr when they are done with you, you don't ask them although they can sometimes forget and then you tell them. It is possible Tracom didn't get the info that he was cleared directly by the tower instead of by them. He is probably fine because the tower logs and recordings will show him to be clear if he didn't violate the outer zones of the bravo.

Somebody in ATC screwed up and they were not communicating with each other. Once they investigated I'm sure the pilot had no issues.

@@steven2145 We were 150 feet off the ground, so "under it" is the most likely.

The "after a few minutes" indicates whoever you were taking to on the radio was coordinating via land line with TRACON. Make sure you ask for all the tapes to pulled and saved from both the tower and the TRACON. It will probably work out that the tower/TRACON coordination didn't fully "work" and this may resolve things - but you want those tapes!

Also, when you leave a Class B airport VFR you get your "Cleared into..." from the tower/clearance deliv, not tracon.

Oh boy, I really hope the pilots of this plane have a good excuse (hijack?) For almost crashing into two other planes !! And if it is through negligence, that they withdraw their flight permits with a stay in prison for endangering the lives of passengers! The ATC personnel remain extremely calm, well done! I think I would have screamed until I blew the mic to tell them to get out of there!
Thank you for making this video which explains very well the division of the airspace (I did not even know that it exists, I am totally new and just discovering these videos)

ATC: 77pf let me know when you can copy this number for a deviation report
77PF : hold on man, I dropped my bong, I’ll get back to you

Poor guy just really wanted to fly for the airlines, so he figured he could momentarily fuse his private plane with a commercial jet, if only for a few milliseconds.

Someone flying a king air is someone who’s had to have a descent amount of experience, and if you’re flying near a bravo often, I’d expect you to be even better because of the complexity of the airspace. I find myself so comfortable with the airspace around me that I can avoid deviations almost visually without looking at a chart and I only have 60 hours. What this pilot did makes no sense to me how you can make such a mistake

I hope the FAA revokes his pilot licence, IF he has one. This is more than just a little f...up.
