I got my dive knife as a present a good 15yrs before I even started diving... It's a big traditional one, curved knife edge, pointy tip, serrated back edge, line cutter, solid plastic case. I also have a small version of it which i got for training. Neither has been used for anything much other than cutting cheese or spreading butter for my interval snack.
Good that the video shows how to use each part of the knife, what it's for, the features available and the variety of features available. I'd like to see what a titanium knife with a chizel tip would cost.
Best knife I ever dived with was a first gen benchmade Resuue/Dive. Had a sheepsfoot blade and a sheath that was rivited so you could thread bungie through it. Short enough to mount on my wrist and enough blade for almost anything.
I use a $3 fishing knife, that’s stainless steel with a plastic tension sheath. Simply drilled a hole at the tip of the sheath, so it hangs off the weight belt (no BCD).
Tanto knives are superior for puncturing or penetrating objects because of the tip strength, there's a lot more material for support compared to a standard drop point or dagger point blade.
why not just use a standard knife? anyways you can't show off your dive knife when you in under water right? basically knife is a piece of metal with sharp edge with sharp point isn't? why so complicated?
I don't trust the quality of those knives. Poor steel, "stainless" is not a good steel and titanium is a pain to sharpen. I'm not sold... And most of all, I don't believe that they are full tang
I haven't taken mine apart to check, but they don't really need to exert much pressure. The most I've ever used mine during a dive for cutting ropes during my rescue class otherwise it's for watermelon and sandwiches
They are for cutting straps, or maybe vegetation. They are not for batoning thru logs to make an underwater campfire. My 1008 Sea Hunter actually is full tang, but not full width tang.

I always carry a butter knife. Great if you get a little peckish during a dive...can be a little tricky buttering the bread though.
Works best with waterproof bread and butter. Unsalted butter is recommended unless you're diving in a freshwater lake.

i have never used a dive knife but i know i will need to get one before i start my idc in october
Wow. So many to choose from. Now I'm more confused!
I use an McNETT Saturna blunt tip diving knife

i was on a dive with someone who once brought a proper balisong to a dive.

Standard knives won't hold up in the salt water like diving knives because the steel is different
