- Hi loves!! This video has been highly requested so I really wanted to show you all how I paint my nails step by step for an at home decent manicure! By no means do I think mine are perfect but I'm happy with the way I do mine and this is what suits me… and of course there is nothing better than saving some money too!! Your polish looks professionally done. I like the space between, it makes it look more clean.
I see people talk about you exposing to much of your nail and not covering it with polish, in cosmetology school this is how we were taught to polish nails. You only polish where your brush can reach and don't get it all over the skin, so good job. :)

+Brandee Fernandez where did you go to school? It's weird how you learn different things depending on where you go ... I was taught to polish right up to the cuticle without flooding it, but to not leave much exposed because it leaves the mani looking old and grown out.

+Brandee Fernandez You are supposed to leave space between the polish and your cuticle it's just that most people would rather it be closer because when there is a lot of space then it looks like it has grown out.

Gorgeous! I paint my nails in the exact same way - with a gap all around. Makes polish removal much easier and stops my already-dry skin getting even drier. I think it also looks smarter and is similar to the manicures I've had at spas. I don't understand why people can't accept we all have different preferences because... you know... we're individuals.
not to be mean or anything but u leave too much empty space around your nail. it's like u only fill in a bit in the middle but miss the sides. it's better to go a bit over the sides and then use a brush and acetone to neaten the mani.
I will say though, i think you leave a little too much space at the cuticle for my taste. Looks like nail growth already on a fresh manicure
xHappzx I just do that because my nail beds are so long already that I look like I have never ending finger nails if I go all the way down! I wish I had short nail beds... I can't help it lol!
xHappzx i agree! it would bug me so much if i have that much space left on my nails. it looks messy when its not all filled in.

thank you for filming this video. my cuticles grow in fast over the nail bed and I get tired of pushing them back for that "perfect" mani look. instead I've been painting lower on the nail bed like how u do. it looks like there is a lot of space so I'm happy there's a video out here I can relate to!
High!!! loved your video.. a way to help your nails would be to take iron.. i'm anemic and i've noticed when taking my over the counter iron tabs it helps my nails big time.. your nails feed off it and get stronger and healthier looking.. alot of ppl don't realize how brittle or rigid their nails are.. it also has to do with you blood level count..some months they might look good and others they might not.. just thought you'd like a good suggestion.. if you know you don't have extremely bad nails and have a healthy iron count you can either take a low mcg iron pill or a hair/nail supplement to help with peeling and brittleness!!!
Don't knock those long nail beds. Mine are short and stubby. Not cute. Yours are really nice!
Honestly I love your nail beds, they are gorgeous! Your nail beds are longer than my nails when the white tip is pretty long. Lol!

Way to much nail still exposed. Looks very unfinished to me. But if that's the way you like it then go with it.
IMO it looks better and cleaner than when the polish meets the cuticle and creates a ridge or goes over onto the cuticle.
Dawn Rogers Dettloff Need to do it like that. The top coat will seal in the color at the base, without touching the skin. Manicure lasts hella longer
eunnikins I disagree it needs to go all the way down to the cuticle
I'm all for staying a millimeter away from the cuticle and sidewall, but I polish all the way to the edges of the sides of my free edge and even cap the sides. That's what keeps me from getting small breaks at the beginning of the free edge. If I went to a nail tech and she polished my nails with this five mm gap all the way around I wouldn't tip her and I'd *never* go back! I'd probably give her a negative review on Yelp, too!

You're the first person I've seen use the Revlon color stay gel basecoat! That's what I use and I swear by it! My mani lasts for weeks if I want it to. I change my color often due to commitment issues. Lol

Beautiful! It took me a while to figure out I didn't need to apply my polish right up against my cuticle line. My nails grow fast, however, and after a couple of days, it looks like I need to redo my manis.

The space on the edges would drive my OCD self crazy. I don't mind taking my polish all the way to the cuticle/edges because it comes off your skin so easily with some soap and water, and then it still looks clean. My nails grow far too quickly to leave that much space - I don't like having to redo my mani more than once a week.

Try massaging Jojoba oil into your nails and cuticles. Jojoba oil has flexible molecules in it so it'll help your nails to not break as much and it's also extremely moisturizing so it will help decrease the brittleness of your nails.

You have such nice nails! I have a short small nail beds. Love that color you used. I learned some. Good tips. I never use any base coats...just polish and a top coat. I will have to try a base coat!

I like to go a bit closer to the edge of my nails when I paint them but yours is also really nice!

How do I keep my nails strong? I work in a hospital and I constantly wash my hands and my nails end up breaking and my hands in general look awful. I also would like to know if you could recommend a moisturizer that I could use I'm a MA.

how long will it take for all these coats to dry?

How long do you wait between coats? And then for how long do you let it dry before going to bed? If I do my nails and then go to bed, the next morning they have been pressed by the sheets and look terrible...
i have this same exact problem
That always happens to me so I do the first coat a couple of hours before going to bed and then the next morning I do the second coat, so it has all day long to dry and the first coat is mostly dry already
You can make them dry faster with soaking your nails into cold water.
+Sophea TS when i do that it just makes them wet again and sticky and the polish starts coming off
You need to soak them in cold water after leaving them for 5-10 minutes. I wait 15-20 minutes between coats and if I soak them in cold water I wait 10 minutes, soak them for 2-3 minutes, leave them for 2-3 minutes to dry and then do the second coat.

Hi! Have you found a decent substitute for that basecoat? It used to be my favorite, but I don't know if they discontinued it or if they just don't sell it in my country anymore and I can't find anything that is close enough :(

I rarely paint my nails... why not touch the cuticle? I've heard other people say that too... They look very nice.
It looks really messy and unprofessional it's better to not touch the skin to make it look cleaner. Plus polish all up in your skin is a huge burden when you want to take the polish off

You should make your background on what's you're actually painting your nails on top off completely white it would make it more pleasant to look at and less distracting and try different music. Love you're channel

How do you avoid bubbles in the polish? I got a couple of the Revlon base coats when they went on clearance because I heard so many people raving about it, but I hate it so far:( Both bottles I got have bubbles floating in the polish when I put it on (I think from the brush or something; I never shake it!) I am so careful when I do my nails, but I can't remember the last time I didn't have bubbles!
lutheranchick13 Maybe it was just that batch because I haven't had bubbles lately... I use to get bubble really bad with my seche vite top coat and that is why i stopped using it for a while. Then I re-purchased it again and haven't had an issue with it since so it's kind of strange! Do you have the revlon gel base coats? i heard they replaced it with a different one so I will check it out next time i go to the drugstore! Thanks for watching! Xo Ivett

how do you get 4 coats of nail polish to dry ?? even if i wait like 20 minutes inbetween painting, the second coat stil won't dry :'(

I only have the little white part (near the cuticle) on my left thumbnail. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing or I need to push back my cuticles. So if someone could let me know because I see tons of people who have the white part on all their nails.

See a lot of comments on the nail she left. This is actually good for the cuticles so they can breathe. Its really bad to cover them eith nailpolish. It ruins your nails. I never paint them to the cuticle.
