My favorite way to rig the KC is with a bobber stop, 1/8 tungsten flipping weight, then a gambler punch skirt(trimmed down) Then a 4/0 EWG. This gives the crab a slower fall and more movement !
I wish Zman would make a bait similar to the savage gear crab or the crusty crab from chase baits. I don’t care if they make it a pre rigged bait or just a plastic. I would like to see a custom jighead for it though. Personally I think a plain O,shaunessy hook with weight along the shank would be perfect. The closest thing I can think of that is similar to this would be the Tackle tactics Hidden Weight system jig head. Just without the 90 degree bend.
Matt, like you I ran across the bigger splash as an issue when sight casting to feeding red fish. Despite them nosing the grass line they weren't digging the kicker crab. After two spooks I lost confidence and went back to a slimmer profile bait.
Has anyone tried these fished Carolina rigged with Offset EWG Worm Hook and a bullet weight? It should let the bait float naturally and it seems like it would work good.
If I don't have any of those $2 jigheads, can I rig this kinda like a carolina rig and be successful ? Looking for a cheaper way to fish it.Also , how about under a popping cork ?

Did you say what weight your choice for the weighted mustad's was? I missed it if so. What weight are you using there and is it a 4/0 size hook?
It is a 3/0 hooks but 4/0 will work as well with larger baits weighing 1/8 of an ounce!
