    Really helpful. . My red triangle light came on with the ALT. My road assistant told me to check the belt if its not the belt that the alternator will have to be replaced. I asked him how many belts does it have cause I only see one. RA told me it has two. I said it only has one blet for the APU system and I just saw a TH-cam video your video 😁.
    Thks stay safe

      Thanks for watching. And usually if you call thermo king they are pretty cool about helping you troubleshoot the problem

    Just an FYI if your fuel pump goes out the 60 dollar Mr. Gasket diesel pump works perfectly. It is exactly the same except it's green not black. Beats the hell out of TKs 178 for the same pump. Also you can get the alternator from dbelectric.com for 60 bucks. I get to put mine in this weekend. Hey thanks for your post. It takes any guess work out of the process.

      Thanks for the info. I just replaced the fuel pump about 2 months ago too. Could’ve saved some money on that, smh lol.

      Hey brother good day to you!
      I see you mention about dbelectric.com $60 alternator for the Thermo King Evolution. I went to the web site and it said $208.
      Did you cross reference part number?
      Any advice/information would greatly be appreciated🙏🏼
      My APU wouldn’t start. So I change fuel pump, and still wouldn’t start. I’ve been watching and researching. So now I’m hoping it’s the alternator!! Plus it time to change it anyway, looking like piece of crap from last owner.

      How's the alternator holding up?

  • @MrBentleyd
    @MrBentleyd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok I just got the new alternator on and it work perfectly. The housing hits the support bracket when installing it but if you put the belt on first it's no big deal because when you tighten the bolts down it makes the belt tension just right. Here is the link to the alternator. www.dbelectrical.com/products/alternator-for-thermo-king-tri-pack.html

      Thanks. I had to replace the brakes a few months after this because the hole for the bolt was warped and kept loosening the nut and rattling

      I always use thread lock just because of that. The nut for the pully on the alternator tried to come off when I did the test run. I hit it with the impact then thread lock.

    Disconnect the battery. Don't just flip the switch off. You can arc weld with that much current. That belt needs to be tighter or it will squeal when the air compressor kicks in.

      It’s been a while since I’ve been under the tripac. I got out of the truck almost 2 years ago and can’t really remember which wires you’re referring to. I just remembered one connection to the ground on the back side and one was an actual plug.

    What year APU do you have? Do you remember the belt part#? Once you removed the nut, did the alternator pulley and fan come right off or did you have to use a pulley removal tool? Ty

    I noticed that your belt was studded and not groved. Did or does it make a difference?

    • @newhousetruckin4635
      @newhousetruckin4635  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not on these small units. The main issue I had with that thing is the tensioner. It just shook loose after a while and you gotta tighten it back up and it’s fine.
