      I do wish they offered Saboteur, Aquaventure and Yar's Return at the 30 dollar price value as they are with Mr. Run & Jump and Berserk DX. Couldnt justify spending 60 a piece on them when they were already included in various collections.
      7800 would be amazing if they started rolling out unreleased stuff and new games. I have Nikki & Vikki and thats a great example of what the system could have been pulling off.

    great video - I actually didn't know that so many Atari flashback consoles had been released and I also didn't know that more were planned - its great that the 2600 platform is backed like this - however, I must admit that I think they should also release both an Atari ST - and/or any of the 8bit models maybe the Atari 800 :-) however maybe they don't have to make the last one here in 'real size' but I would definitely get a 'recreated' Atari ST or Atari 800 if they ever made one.

    I just got a 2600+. I really like it! Granted, I don't have any old cartridges, but I was able to get Berzerk and Mr. Run and Jump, as well as the four game paddle pack, though I'm still waiting for the paddle pack. I've only tried Missile Command and Berzerk so far, but they played fantastically. I also just got a Flashback 12 Gold, and now have over 900 games on it. The joysticks with the FB12G aren't as good of quality as the one with the 2600+, but they still work well.
    And I see you have a Flashback 2. I have one of those. Got it when they originally came out in 2005. I've had a lot of fun playing Missile Command on that too! I never bothered modding it to use cartridges, as again, I don't have any old ones, but that you could if you wanted to is what's pretty neat about the FB 2. And that it uses an actual recreation of the Atari 2600 board rather than emulation is pretty nice too.

    What I didn’t care for with the flashback consoles were you are stuck with the games included (until flashback 9 came out). And even then, the paddle controls aren’t accurate and laggy. The joystick games are a little laggy as well but tolerable. I’m excited for the 2600+ because it has the look and hopefully the feel as well of the original console. The metal switches look so much better than the push buttons. Also the design of the flashback joysticks always felt too “loose” compared to original ones. That’s always bothered me. So hopefully they aren’t like the newer redesigned joysticks like the flashback and Retron ones. They work well, but they just don’t feel the same as the classic! Super excited about the 7800 compatibility too!!! I pre-ordered mine on day one!

    My question is 7800 controllers working, as well. The new console plays 7800 carts, bit those games run with 2 side buttons. So running some games on the new pre-order controller may show up limitations. I do have the European gamepad and I'll know in November if that works as well. Nervous about lag. And are any of your flashback consoles lag free?

    • @300BaudStudios

      @@300BaudStudios Moon Patrol!!! My mother swore the music in that would send her to an early grave. I still him it regularly. The summer of 83 I spent with that, Cosmic Arc, Pong, Combat and Real Sports Baseball. And those are still in my top favorites. I think people only gripe about Atari Baseball games because they were hard and I don't think young players today are willing to "waste" the time to get the knack of them. When you get good at Real sports Baseball it is pretty awesome, imo. Also I don't think people realize most of we kids back then only owned a few games...I only had about 8 until I was able to drive to yard sales back in the late 80s...then i racked up!!! By about '98 you could get games and systems for literally next to nothing at yard sales...the good old days before internet resellers... LoL

    Ok, let me tell you about the hidden psycological impact of the Atari 2600 that´s not talked about
    which translates to it being such an amazing system/unit:
    2600 games are iconic because they leave room for imagination by being LEGO like.
    I personally love the big playfield graphics for being what it is! from repeated to mirored to asymetrical.
    And we all know LEGO is one of the most beloved toys in the world.
    So that´s an Atari 2600 exotic charm!
    its carefully picked 128 color palette is also an eye catcher.
    I personally don´t care about the 7800 games (but that´s just me)
    So let the 2600 homebrews abound like the sand of the sea :D
    I´ll be buying the 2600+ for sure!

    • @300BaudStudios
      @300BaudStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great analogy! The 2600's simplicity also made for an extremely flexible system as well. Other than a bit better graphics on newer systems such as the intellivision and 5200, many of the games played exactly the same as the lowly 2600 back in the day.

      Good question! I believe it comes down to 2 things; the age of the item and when it was purchased. Many of the items in my collection came from a time when computing was new. Back in the 80's it was not uncommon for a family to buy a home computer or video game console only to find that it was either to difficult to use or simply not what they expected so it ended up back in the box stored in a closet for a few years until it eventually found itself in a yardsell. I just happened to be collecting during the 90'S which was the best time to buy 80's equipment; it was cheap and plentyfull. At the time you could actually buy an Amiga 2000 computer with the keyboard and mouse for what you would now pay for a single key on a parted out busted up keyboard on fleabay. Some of the items in my collection, such as Amigas have gotten a lot of use while other have not; such as pristien Atari 8-bit computers which I will feature on this channel so stay tuned :-)

      I want the true retro experience of slapping in cartridges. We cannot do that with the Gamestation. The look and feel of a retro console is just as important as the gameplay, it's all about replicating that early 80s gaming time period that I missed out on.

    Flashbacks are useless. Stuck using their garbage joysticks (or no menu home buttons). The menus are slow and laggy ... in general just an awful experience. The Retron 77 lacks a little polish, but functionally waaayyy better. Evercade has nice Atari options as well (Atari Collection I and II (2600/7800), Lynx Collection I and II, & Atari Arcade collection). With the Retron or Evercade the controller options are way better than any Flashback - - and both have superior build quality + other features. The Flashback series is pretty low rent. Already pre-ordered the 2600+

    It's not another flashback, it's arguably worse. I see some cartridges being sold on Amazon for the new unit, and they're wanting £25 a game. Who is going to pay that for old Atari games these days? Ridiculous. Honestly, the Flashbacks were better. They shipped with tons of games. They weren't cosmetically accurate, but more games ='s more fun.

    • @300BaudStudios
      @300BaudStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      Valid point you make as the 2600+ only comes with 10 games. It is really intended for those who already have a collection of games. If you just want to play games the Flashback 9 with the SD slot works great!

    • @MaterLacrymarum

      But even as a way to play who have a collection of games it's a fail. Original units are not hard to find. I have a heavy 6. Those things don't seem to even break! Given the 2600 is a niche thing anyway, and that the Flashbacks have happened, other than an initial show of interest, this thing can't possibly have legs. They had to, because the original hardware is incompatible with modern tvs. Other game companies have had to take a similar approach.
      Sega Saturn games, for example, are notoriously difficult to port to modern systems due to how the original console was built. Emulating them is the only way to go, and even that is a difficult task.
