HDD making clicking sound

- My WD disk was not detecting to use, I just change the board by some vendor with old firmware and plug back in now its started making clicking noises. Can I get some idea what could be the issue
It is indeed making a clicking sound
The read/write heads are slamming into the orange park bracket but they should ease into it once the heads are clear of the platters. Replacement head assembly is required in this situation(if you hadn't ruined the platters by opening it outside of a clean room). Replace the drive, nothing can be recovered from this other than a few sensors and motors.
Eh, then I don't feel bad about opening mine, I definitely won't replace the read/write head cause it's ain't even worth the trip. It was cool seeing the internal components tho lol.

@@jameskirk2579 Unless you live in the Sahara Desert, there's no point in having a clean room. Just have a "clean" living room, close the windows, stop the fans, don't make sudden moves that could create air flow and bring dust with it and it's fine.
Lol I love that whole ''ruined!'' myth when it comes to the platters. A little bit of dust won't matter, of course you want to keep it as minimal or non-existent as possible, but the tiniest few specks won't matter. They get blown off by the centrifuge anyway (there's even a filter in the HDD...) It won't be fatal unless the platter is actually scratched, or has abundant and ridiculous amounts of dirt.
opening one in a non clean room wont instantly break the hard drive. Aslong as you would make sure there aren't any(or no big) dust particles left on the disks you should be fine.
Mines click when it turns on. But seems to stop after a while and still spin.

Contact a professional IT guy, I’m starting to be one, but not for hard drives yet, but that may be the HDD initialized after it starts up.

my hdd is doing cliking noises too but all the time from now....
This is regular as it may click whenever the drive is accessing / writing data. However, if it does this consistently with no certain cause, it is dead. The actuator has failed.
@@IKnowYourGeologicalLocation It does start clicking when im launching and playing games, but when im not, its not clicking. So I guess its okay ?
Does the same sound happen on external hdd also? or its slight vibration bump?

I hear clicking a sound from my PC but all my HDDs seem to be working fine. Windows isn't reporting any issues either.
Maybe your hard drives are just loud, that's a common thing

My guess, its probably the read/write heads engaging/disengaging the plates. I do have my hard drive mounted vertically in my pc case which could also be the cause of the clicking sound.
Same here, it casually makes a click but the drive works perfectly fine
Ok after taking some time to learn all the ins and outs of so called fixing your Hard Drive. You can't truly fix anything. What you will need to do, to get any readable data of the unscratched sections of the disc platter. Is costly but you can get a new HDD and remove it's disc/platter set with your damaged set. Then you have to setup an reader arm block. To force your new reader arm to only read the section of the disc, leading up the the damaged section or after the damaged sections. That's how the physical set up is done. A digital reading program is used to read and convert the corrupt files into a now viewable file. This is how it's normal done. The Big cost will start with the Clean room device, it's cleans the air of dust, small screwdrivers, replacement HDD and one recovery program that includes a data converting software.

@@7ossamelsayed346replacing The head requires a special tool and a lot of care and same for The platters. If you transplante The platters and rotate then even 0.001°, its over for your hdd

By that point tye hard drive is almost dead. The clicking sounds mean that the read/write head is trying to read bad sectors. Bad sectors are places on the plates of the hard drive that cannot store data no more.
I had a hard drive playing up and it turns out my power supply to my Dock was bad and I had to replace it
My hard drives not spinning i checked motherboard and one diode melted due to over currents.
I tried similar motherboard .
But than it starts buzzing beep sound .
Disk want to spin but not spinning.
Due to headstock.

my seagate 3tb does this shit since yesterday. i recorded some videos on there until late evening and then suddenly this sound began. does the same when booting up, but then stops. doesnt show up with all my other drives... there is all my old videos, pc data on there. i dont know what to do! 😢😢😢

@@giogaming8367 the dust can get on the platters and scratch them. HDDs should only be opened in a cleanroom (a room with extreme air filtration systems)

@@nanotheronmy pc is so slow and when i check the performance in task manager it says hdd 100%. I cant open steam and games plus when i click on file explorer it always not responding. Also shutting down my pc takes forever and booting it up as well.

Mine is doing the same thing. At first it would make the sound before the pc would shutoff with no warning.
Now its just constantly doing this.

All it’s doing is just moving the arm on data to read and write information off the hard drive

The only way to fix it is taking it to a data recovery shop. Professionals can identify the problem and possibly recover your data. Most importantly: DON'T EVEN TRY TO OPEN OR DISASSEMBLE THE DRIVE.
