Hi Chap. Nice video! I have a very nice 1869 chassepot made in Mutzig, Elzas-Lorraine. I use the bubble tea straw method for reloading. I cut the straw at 53mm length so it fits nicely. However after 1 or 2 shots there is so much fouling the cartridges won't fit anymore unless I make the following straws a few mm shorter which is irritating. Do you have some advice for me how to keep the fouling soft? I use bullet grease in the bullet grooves but that's all. Do I need more grease and if yes how to implement it? Thank you Chap!

Autoplay, obowhl es als abgestellt markiert ist, eine falsche Tonspur, ohne auf die richtige umstellen zu können, weil es angeblich die ist, die gerade läuft etc.). --- Edit: Man muss es anscheinend mehrmals versuchen. Jetzt blendet TH-cams es am Ende ein und man kann es auch anklicken (ebenfalls ein Feature, das gelegentlich nicht funktioniert).

I dont know if you will see this comment but do you know if Gras .22 trainer conversions were made with short, almost sporting style forearms or were they left full stocked?
@thebotrchap I will have to pull it out of the safe to check. The bolt head CF to rimfire conversion is really neat and simple. I have a soft spot for trainers.
The "carbine" version retans the bayonet lug, suggesting the barrel was shortened from the rear? That would explain missing markings, rear sight being set back....
Nope, the mount has clearly been resoldered on and the barrel thickness is greater at the mouth than the service rifle. A service bayonet socket doesn’t quite fit. Also shortening the barrel that much from the breech end would mean the external diameter of the barrel wouldn’t match the diameter of the receiver where they join (which they do here).
@thebotrchap okay then, so it was still set for military use, after the modifications, a civilian "sporter" wouldn't have need for a bayonet mount, would it?
@@JohnTBlockNot necessarily. It was very common, at least in Europe, in the 19thC to whack a bayonet lug on civilian rifles to give them a military flare.
Its nice to see honest speak. French declared war against Prussia, and then got soundly beaten by them. BTW, the unified German State (spanning to modern day) was declared in Versailles Palace. 😅😅 You cant rub French to opposite direction more than that. Hitlers 1940 rail carriage comics is little compared to this humiliation.
Weapons where every single component is not serialized? My (part) of teutonic blood is boiling. Ze weapons are not build like this. Ze serial number is more important than ze weapon. You mus have ordnung. If any part of waffe is too schmall to have serial number stamped, ve vill redesign whole waffe, so that serial numbers vill fit.

It’s the original. Unfortunately the barrel is a bit thicker so an original bayonet doesn’t fit without opening out the socket slightly.
