Wow, you've done so much knitting! For the Funfetti I would recommend doing a 3 needle bind off (with right sides facing each other) instead of kitchener stitch as the top seam. It's a good idea to have a more firm and stable seam at the top of the shoulder, as the rest of the sweater hangs from that seam. A stretchy seam can really stretch and droop over the shoulder, especially with a long sleeve pulling on it - that's why when sewing knit fabric a pattern will often recommend adding some stabilizing tape to keep that seam from stretching. One of the benefits of flat sewn knitting patterns is the structure and stability the seams provide. Just my 2 cents, use it or not, but let us know how you make out with the project.

Wow that is some knitting you have completed in these last few weeks. Fabulous👏👏. All your jumpers look brill. What a collection you must now have. I am knitting the Navelli by Caitlin Hunter and am using 4ply Cheviot Marsh yarn from Whistlebare. I think your mum would like one🤭. Looking forward to part 2 whenever it come up. Have a good few days. 🧶

Your Funfetti sweater colors are better than those in the magazine. Lovely choices. I'm old so am getting a 50s-60s vibe from the original where yours is more modern. Field by Max is one of the designs he has done that is really intriguing to me. Metamorphic is Gorgeous. Well done. It suits you well and is very beautiful. Loads of nice designs.

Greetings from the State of Wyoming in the U. S. I happened upon your channel today and am so impressed by your knits. You've inspired me to try the Alpenglow using primarily colors similar to yours.

I was going to suggest the same as others have to use a three needle bind off for the shoulders, it will give greater stability and it creates a lovely finish. the Funfetti fabric you’ve created is beautiful 💚 such a good episode full of inspiring projects

So nice to see you again. The sweaters looks amazing. My favorite one is the funfetti. It feels fun, and modern kind of retro. The colours looks great. My wips is three pair of socks. Trellis cabled socks from Stephen West, a socktube that i split in two and only need some heals and the third pair is the cozy november socks. I also knitting a Riddari for my daughter. There are some rows with three colours at the same time and i think that the most difficult part is the threads twisting. Looking forward to the next podcast

Jonathon, the Alpenglow is splendid, and the Field Shawl is dreamy, but your Funfetti absolutely blew me away! Your color palette is just perfect!! I want to make one myself (although I'd need to sub with less expensive yarn). I do think it is important to try different construction methods, and the first few sweaters and cardigans I made were seamed. There are aspects of seamed garments that I like, although I generally prefer making things seamlessly when possible. I'm just going to keep sitting here looking longingly at the photo of your Funfetti....

Missed your videos, great to see you again! And great progress. Just wanted to suggest the three needle bind off for the shoulder 'seams' of the Funfetti sweater. It is a bit stronger and adds more structure than kitchener which will help keep the shape of the sweater. It would be such a shame to put in so much work into such a beautiful sweater and then for the shoulders to come loose!

Hi Jonathan great to catch up with you. All your sweaters look lovely. Looking forward to seeing your next episode and will be interested in seeing how the seaming up goes, I love sweaters constructed in pieces but I do struggle with getting stripes to match up along the side seams when using mattress stitch so go back to backstitching, Andrea of fruity knitting has a short tutorial of how she does it and she is the queen of sewn constructions.
Looking forward to part 2 best wishes Frances

Jonathan, please learn from my mistakes. I, like you, thought that sleeves could be knit in the round for a bottom up sweater and attached later. In theory this works fine. However, I have yet to get a smooth finish on a shoulder cap with it. It always ends up being a bit of a puff sleeve or just not sit right. I would recommend seaming as per the instructions. That all being said, if you want to do a sleeve in the round and then attach, I would recommend starting at the apex and working one side towards the pit, and then the other. That is the cleanest finish I've had with a round knit sleeve sewn in.
Also, S&P is my local. Tandem is a really nice yarn and wears well. You'll enjoy both knitting and wearing the sweater.

    • @jhenderson2286
      @jhenderson2286 ปีที่แล้ว

Agree, with Jimmy. Seaming is quick Jonathan and your gauge if knit in the round will likely differ too. I really hope you get into knitting flat as there are a ton of vintage patterns you'd look great in! If you are worried about whether it will fit, simply lay the flat pieces on one of your well-fitting jerseys and see how they compare, it's actually very easy to shape as you go if you find a discrepancy. One final comment, you will find the seams really make such a sturdy and long-lasting garment. A seam is much stronger than kitchener so I recommend you do seam the shoulders, not least because this garment will be quite heavy and the shoulder seams will be holding it all in place. I can't wait to see it finished, I absolutely LOVE the colours you chose and am v tempted to make an exact copy for my boyfriend.

It was so nice to see your podcast this morning as I had breakfast. All of your makes are just lovely! My faves are the Metamorphic sweater and the Field Shawl. 😍 I may need to make hubby that shawl/scarf. I’m making my first knit sweater as we speak, for myself. Maybe one day I can make that Metamorphic one. Ty for sharing! (PS: I had never heard of that hat and am glad you shared it - hubby may be getting that too. 😊)

Thank you again for sharing your beautiful sweaters. I have knit many sweaters in pieces and I find that it is easier to set in the sleeve when it is knitted flat. Then I seam the sleeve and continue down the side of the sweater. Just a suggestions.

Love the three sweaters you have knitted. The three colour colour work is so out of my wheelhouse at the moment but will get there.
Currently knitting the field shawl for my partner though I keep calling it a scarf when I am talking to him about it. Using the Danie yarn from Studio Donegal. Also recently finished my first pair of socks, they are currently blocking. I think it’s official that you have influenced me more than marketing usually succeeds. 😂

I had some holes from German short rows, maybe caused by making the double stitch starting with the yarn in the back. It doesn’t make those holes if you make them starting with the yarn in the front on both sides

Wow! Three beautiful sweaters in really lovely yarns- you are a machine! Love the socks with speckles- so different. Three needle bind off would be another way to cast off the live shoulder stitches. It would leave a smooth seem but also provide structure, which sewing in pieces and seaming does. The colours look great together! I am just finishing a pair of Newfoundland mittens and then casting on a Felix cardi.

I try to do it the same way as you, but I have yet to figure out how to tension the two yarns on my left hand so that they tension evenly. Can you find the link? Or just show us on your podcast? Im a first Timer to your podcast and really enjoyed your style and of course your work. I’ve always done bottom up sweaters and actually came to hate the sewing together, so that now I mainly knit top down ones. Currently I’m working on the classic turtleneck by espace tricot, the Aalto by shibui knits and my next project will be the sowing seeds of love by joji locatelli the yarn to which I ordered from Stephen west in black/white/grey which will hopefully arrive tomorrow. Thanks again for a delightful and inspiring evening.

Enjoyed listening to this while working on my Weekender! All your new sweaters are amazing, but I'm obsessed with your Gold Star sweater! Can I copy you and do identical colors haha? Also, not at all sick of hearing about Oslo hats - it's actually the Musselburgh that I feel like is the only hat podcasters talk about these days and I'm a little over it haha although I probably should give that pattern a try - just seems like a lot of knitting for a hat. So was refreshing hearing about a different classic, striking hat pattern :)
