I’m currently reading this book, finding it slow and knew immediately I needed to find your review to see what you experienced. I now know to just persevere through it. Thanks Jonathan!
There was a time in the early to mid 90s where the odd Trek book was released in hard cover but it is nice to get this consistency. I enjoyed this book, it added so much to the character and I enjoyed the return of the Iotians. Great book and a great review Take care
This book is my most recent Trek read. I agree that the first half was a bit slow ... a lot of set-up, but it does all pay off very cleverly in the end. "Tapestry" is my favorite episode of TNG, so I liked that Marta Batanides played a role in the book -- I was hoping for that, as I recall Rios dropping Batandies' name in an episode of "Picard." Books like this -- with everything constructed very carefully, and each loose thread eventually tying together and paying off in the end -- sometimes make one wonder why some of the Trek shows and movies are so full of plot inconsistencies and holes. Clearly there are people out there who can write good Trek without those flaws ... !
Hi Jonathan 👋 Love your videos you're awesome....I have not read any Picard books yet, really thinking about reading this book . Do I need to read any of the other Picard books first, or is this book a standalone?

Just ordered this on Amazon. I’m excited to learn more about him since we didn’t really in the show. His ending felt so unsatisfying.
Thanks for the video. Have you read Dark Vail aswell?
That is the only Picard novel I have not yet read. I intend to get to it eventually, I just have so many Star Trek novels on my list it’ll be a while.

You can absolutely read this one. They’re each standalone. If you have a general knowledge of the Picard characters, you’ll be fine.
