Dan Bailey is a 5-time CrossFit Games competitor, never finishing outside the top 10 at the Games, finishing 4th at the 2015 CrossFit Games and 7th at the 2016 California Regionals. Dan has a background as a collegiate sprinter at Ohio University where he obtained degrees in Education and Strength and Conditioning. In this episode I catch up with Dan who most recently moved back to Columbus, Ohio from San Diego, and is currently training for the 2017 CrossFit Games Season.
How can you not love this guy? 😊 Julie - thank you for an amazing, inspirational and informational pod/episodes! Keep it going! 💪🏻
Oh Dan... Take this Games this year boy.
will Danny Broflex ever be in an Open announcement?
Its funny how many crossfit experts we have here... He never won the games but he is for sure one of the top names in our sport! Of course he needs to improve some Stuff but come on guys.... There is only one Rich Froning!!!! Dan is a Top 10 world wide any given day! Go Dan!!!
Could someone send me the link on Dan's programm?

Thank you, buddy!
Dan, how did you finally get rid of your plantar fasciitis ?
So... can someone answer whether Hobart is going to be on Austin's team or back with Mayhem Freedom?
Dylan Todd Austin's
Looks like it's no team this season if I understood his comments on his personal page
Murph every week! #BeastMode
Josh Bridges-type of comeback?!
I don't think it will be like that. Josh is maniacal with this training and was dealing with getting out of the military when he missed out. Dan didn't have something like that.
Dan realistically needs to improve his technique on his olympic lifts, he needs to get stronger, especially in the squat, OH press and mentally. While he was in Cali he should have visited the California Strength gym to get work done on his Olympic lifts and doing the Sealfit program where they put you through a hell week would benefit him mentally.
MageBlackstone I don't remember seeing any big numbers out of him tbh, they might seem high for the general crossfit population though. The higher your lifts the easier the lifts will be. A 450lb front squat is going to make thrusters at 135 feel a lot lighter etc etc.
His strength numbers are not the issue. On strength events he hits middle of the pack. His weakness is longer duration workout (6 minutes+) especially where there is a high volume barbell cycling where efficiency is key. When it comes to short duration workouts, he does really well which means he has excellent strength, and lactic threshold, but he struggles with glycolytic pathway training (workouts between 5-12 minutes) and fatty acid oxidization workouts 12 minutes +. To train these two energy systems you need to go long A LOT which will affect your strength numbers, however Dan is so strong that a slight drop in strength numbers which would be a great trade-off and the drop in strength would not hurt him too bad as the increase in ability to go long would be drasticly improved. Also, Dan's very inefficient in his movements which as he gets better he will be able to push further in workouts. The big thing Dan needs to do is find a good coach to literally watch his form and almost correct his technique. He is very awkwardly built for any thing with a barbell. He has short femurs but long tibias which makes it awkward to squat. He also has this natural arching of his back that seems to allow his elbows to lay low causing his front rack position to fall forward and make any type of front squat or cleans very difficult. Also, when it comes time to the Games it seems Dan doesn't think through the workout enough/ strategize all the way to the end. Whereas you'll see guys like Rich who understand when to pace and when to pick up the pace in order to finish strong or to stay ahead of the pack, Dan seems to have this mental barrier to strategically know when to either attack a workout he's strong in, or to pace and play the strategic game on longer workouts to win points. This is where you see him place low on events. Dan has the experience, the talent, and the physical freak ability to win the games, it's a matter of changing up his programming, cleaning up his technique in terms of efficiency of movement, and he needs to relax when it comes time to competing, study what other people are doing and what works/ doesn't work for the earlier heats, and rationally decide how he should attack the workout from there.
dcsdacs that's not necessarily true I have a 350 pound front squat and 135 thrusters feel heavy for me. To be honest a lot of these dudes in the games don't even have crazy big numbers they just are able to go like crazy with their endurance and cycling.
dcsdacs that is false. The 1 rep 135lbs would feel lighter I give you that but the reps 20-45 for example would feel no different at all.
I like how all of you are giving Dan Advice on how to get to the Games and Win....bwahahahahabwwwwaaaaahahahahaha
Dan is leaning way away from Julie. Maybe it's lens distortion? Maybe he's really nervous sitting with Julie? Or Maybe he's lighting her up with Wendy bombs... ;)
They have salads at Wendy's though
Hey Dan...lets get married. I will work a regular job and you just keep on with the crossfit thing and being cool and being a total babe. What do you say Dan?
The intro "selling" blurbs really take away from this show. No one likes to be sold before seeing/hearing the value. Please take a look at Gary Vee's "jab jab jab righthook".
Great content otherwise!
