I'm finly doing my 05 s55 brake down. After the timing tension went out . 5 years later still watching your videos over and over Lerner more reminded of what to do to make it better.☝️☝️
There are only a select few who can truly appreciate what this guy is doing. The job on this thing he is doing takes a LOT of time, and a LOT of knowledge, not to mention guts! Being human, there's always a possibility of missing something so tiny and buried inside the engine that could mean a no start condition which means you tear it apart and start ALL OVER again! Ask me how I know!
I’m back for a re-visit to this series. Its my 3rd trip through. I’ve got 2 E55’s, and I love watching your process. At some point, I’ll be into them this deep….Your small ‘fist pump’ when it stared was perfect. I’m hearing that sourcing bearing is going to be done through VRP anymore. There aren’t any available through MB… And yeah, revving it after its first heat cycle, ON AN ENGINE STAND (!) is the first thing I’ve watched you do that I questioned. I get it though- you earned it. Love your willingness to share your knowledge/ability with us. It’s really helpful.
Wow. Hats off. I would sum it up this way . Living in a flat sucks the only thing that motivate me to building a house is having a garage then pursue my dream of doing what you done regardless of effort required and fear that needs overcoming. Appreciate you are sharing this with world.
he said at the end he wont be using this engine in the e55 anymore, too costly to try to make the e55 into a race car, hes just going to build a new car from scratch
Wow, absolutely fascinating. Looked at some videos of a 2004 MB S55 of which I am interested to purchase... and ended up clicking on this channel. What a complicated engine.. It certainly is no backyard mechanic mission to quickly change spark plugs.
Great work and real dedication , ive just spent the last 10days machining to brake rotor carriers , for my turbo MX5 and its felt like a serious job ! nothing compared to what you've done
great job! It's vey satisfying starting a motor that you've just freshly built. Huge respect for undertaking this rebuild, IMO this engine looks to be a lot more complicated than most. looking forward to your next vids!
Fantastic, as always. I was starting to be worried that you had started the engine and broke it, and too ashamed to upload it. I love your vids, keep em coming.!

Push through 2 lengths of tubing 1" into lid; 1 to pump, 1 longest for testing (outlet). Secure with more tape if needed. Fill can 2" with substrate. Place rag in can, pour 1/4 cup oil onto it, in middle. Soak 1-3 briquettes in anything flammable (acetone, diesel, brake parts cleaner, isopropyl alcohol, lighter fluid, etc.) for few minutes. Place in can, light it. After flame goes out- and it's glowing good, place lid, soft tight, no need to hammer closed. Plug in pump. Within a few minutes- you've got about 0.1 PSI of smoke. Add few drops of oil if necessary. Use a sheet of plastic wrap as a lid gasket if needed. Air pump keeps coals going. Great for gaskets, valves, hoses, dry fuel & coolant lines, EVAP system, exhaust, gasket failures in trunk, etc. Costs pennies to operate.
Priceless videos with rare info and insights! Using these as a guide while replacing the o-ring in the timing chain cover of my M112. Curious if you have any idea what is this open hole in the left engine head in front of the exhaust manifold? At first I thought I forgot to put something back, but I see it on your engine too :)

I have enjoyed the videos what i would like to see is W203 220 CDI 646 engine and what advice to modification of the oil cooler so that it does not mix oil and water in the water radiator thank you in advance
Do you have any specific tips on what owners can do preventatively to prevent the oil o ring failure or the easiest way to reach the o-ring and replace it?
Did you do a video on the wavetrac differential? I went back to an early video where you welded the diff? I would like to hear about the install and your opinion of the wavetrac and how it has improved your car?
I mentioned it in one of the older videos. Didn't install it myself so there's no install video but its a good differential. On the track it was impossible to tell the difference between that and a welded diff. It even stays locked when the inside tires leave the ground or hopping over curbs
Hi there, loved your e55 rebuild methodology, please I would very much like a copy of your torque, diagrams, parts list and specifications that you used in the videos. Thanking you in anticipation also please can you tell me where I can get a similar car specification for an S55 AMG w220 petrol version 2001 with M113 engine. Kind Regards
Just 1 question to ask.. How did your engine start without ecu giving command to the starter relay. As much as i knw if the ecu signal of starter relay is not given . Ecu wont let the injections to happen... Ur too goood.. Great fan of yours
Depends on the condition. For this one the ecu was on and the signal was going out to the injectors and ignition coils. The starter was disabled possibly because the ECU was not detecting the transmission in park
probobly no harm in reving the engine like that when its not under load. the only new things are rings and bearings. the ring pressure on the cyl wall is not high without load. and the tight bearing clearance dosent matter when there is no load the rods dosent push into the crank that much.
There are a few wiring diagrams in the service manual, but I ended up tracing the wires using a continuity tester. That's probably the easier way. I showed it in the fic install video
Also, been meaning to ask you, after you lowered your car, did you do anything to address bumpsteer? I ask because after I lowered my benz I get alot of it, and now have to find a new tie rod set up to fix it. You having that problem?
How difficult was it to remove the front clip for access? I have an S600 I will be doing some work to. I am an Audi guy and love the ease of removal of the front clip and radiator etc. with a few bolts and complete access to everything.
On a side note though. I’ve ‘heard’ that with those larger style oil pressure senders that they might vibrate and break off. What’s recommended is placing a short oil line in between so that the sender can be supported elsewhere. It might be just overkill, but maybe worth looking into?
I own a 98 E320 m112 I want to Change the oil pump O ring would I have to remove the whole engine to do this?? I will be using you're videos as my guide. Thanks in advance
No, it could also be done on the car if the subframe is removed. Check the oil pressure first. You will definitely be able to see low oil pressures before something happens
Hey man. Very nice work. Sounds amazing. I´m looking to buy a E55 amg w211 from 2004 with 180.000 kilometers. What were your symptoms of the low oil pressure? How many miles did yours have? Are there any other issues with the motor at that mileage? What should I pay attention to when visiting the car.
It would be hard to tell without an oil pressure gauge but just listen for if the engine sounds quiet, check for noises coming from the crankcase or hydraulic lifters. Check for leaks. Both my engines had leaking oil filter housings and a few other oil leaks. If those rubbers are going hard, I think its a good indication that other rubbers in the engine would be hard as well. Open the oil cap and see if there isn't any gunk build up inside the engine and make sure its idling smooth. For other things, look for if the air suspension is working properly. Leave the car standing for a while and make sure it doesn't sag. Ball joints and bushings on the front suspension sometimes have play so check for that and just test all other features to make sure everything is functional.
No, I'm guessing its 100psi for this one and 75psi for the non-amg variants. 50psi is when the oil nozzles open for spraying oil on the pistons, so max pressure has to be higher than that
@@xfmotorsports hmmm, I'd better do some research, my w211 E55 limits the pressure at 50 ish hot or cold, hope it's normal.... My first thought was the teflon tape you used, but depends on the gauge type if it will read high or low. But I know you're into your electronics, so bet you got that covered.
I see 75psi max on my SL500 (at 3k or higher rpm). It does stop at 50psi for a while which I believe is just because of the opening of the oil nozzles. Pressure at idle is usually 20 to 25 psi hot. I am running 50 weight oil in that car though. The difference might just be because of the thicker oil.
You're crazy, but at least you're also highly intelligent, and extremely motivated. Some of your projects have absolutely blown my mind. You must have a very sturdy source of great income. What work do you do?
@@xfmotorsports I see. I have been looking/considering MBStar for my vehicle but I know that no values can be changed using it. Do you have any experience or opinions on Star?
