It was awesome to hear your reaction to this. I love the descriptions of "floating underwater in space" and "radiohead if they were happy". AnCo was way ahead of their time with this album. I think Fall Be Kind, their EP after this, is just as good, and Strawberry Jam, Feels, and Sung Tongs are amazing in other ways.
Lion in a Coma is in 9/8, not 7/8. But yeah, great reaction. Love this band. Almost every album they've made is great. My favorite is tied between Merriweather Post Pavilion and Sung Tongs. BTW, Robin Pecknold (lead singer of Fleet Foxes) called Animal Collective the most important band of the last decade or two.
Haha, I had my doubts about the signature tempo, but, hey, that's the matter when they are odd. Thank you for claryifing it. Cheers! P.s: I knew there was a connection between AnCo and Fleet Foxes!
This is my second fav album from them. Their debut Spirit they're gone spirit they've vanished is my favourite. Sounds like it's straight up from a futurustic fairy tale
Oh man. Tony I just remembered an album you would absolutely have an eargasm over. It is called "In Ear Park" by Department of Eagles. One of the Animal Collective guys helped make it/record it but it is primarily all one guy. Came out around the same time. It is indie, it is tribal, like this, but it is so organic and melodic and slower and intense. Classical guitar, banjo, bass clarinet, cello, tom toms. Imagine if Animal Collective and Tom Waits had a baby that loved classical music. It is BRILLIANT
@certainlyshiny Grizzly Bear. It's weird that you responded just now after so long because I just recently listened to the album again a few weeks ago and was going "omg I forgot how good this is." It's so unique and so warm and layered. Oh man.
You should really listen to the album Return To Cookie Mountain by TV on the Radio, it’s amazing album and they even managed to sneak in David Bowie in a song and I didn’t notice for like 10 years.
Great review. You should REALLY listen to Sung Tongs. It seems to be the fan favorite, the most accessible, but also just as crazy and different. It's what made me "get it".
I love this album, i even got it on vinyl. Truly a timeless record indeed. I would love to see a reaction to Asian Kung-Fu Generation's Sol-fa, they're a really good Japanese rock band. Cheers!
This is a great album, finally ppl are getting I to good music I listened to this almost a decade ago, I definitely am into my own demmesnion of music but I started out with them too and kid Cudi, and all kinds of music. Ohh and ughh I love " taste " " also frightened" they have so many good songs and the album fucks with your eyes. Oh, and the song my boys, taken by trees covers it, she made it lovely. Props to you for even listening to this, this is good music here. And Im picky af
@@TheTheTheTheTheThe I'm talking about ppl in general, they don't listen to this ..I'm from California most don't, so either your older than me or you just like it..but tell me what's on the radio and tv everywhere in the last 30 year's, not this so that's my point. And like I said this is only one of my favorite genre's not my favorite..plus ik so much more darker shit than this, and even dark psy and doomer metal is..so that's my point man..so plactate
So, I found you on your crystal castles video, so cool, finally ppl are finding good music. I used to listen them years ago, and animal collective is amazing too, the best songs imo are also frightened and taste. But yea, I haven't liested to these since 2011. Props tho for these I used dream of ppl finding this music out even crystal castles I'm finally glad the word has got on. Oh, and if you want new music. I have shit you never ever herd before, like I said I love these bands bit, but my music taste grew, I found the most different side of music. Such as these. But when I would listen to these no one would. Great video.
I used to see this band live from time to time. They put on an awesome show. The albums are great, but seeing them live is almost like a spiritual experience.
Surprised you never reacted to The Beach Boys. They’re a huge influence on Animal Collective. Like even if you’re super familiar with stuff like Pet Sounds, I’d say albums like Sunflower are worth a listen.
Hey Alex, would love to see you react to the band Daughters. They’re a heavier band with a really unique sound that manage to sound pummeling and dark in a way that’s listenable like Death Grips, but with rock instruments and with clean, David Yow-ish vocals. I’d love to see your opinion on their 2010 or 2018 releases.
hell songs is the heaviest shit ever! when those horns kick in! even without the screaming. do love the vocalist's old screaming voice too though, he was one of the best at that. But somehow when he stopped the band got heavier anyway.
(I guess I'm liveblogging my reaction to your reaction, very meta) Not so much an concept album but it's kind of an accidental ode to domesticity. My Girls about the virtues of family, No More Runnin about settling down, Bluish about adult relationships. Then you've got Guys Eyes which is literally about jacking off By the way, the transitions cut off when the sides of the vinyl end, so In The Flowers/My Girls/Also Frightened is Side A, and Summertime Clothes is the start of Side B
"Now we are talking experimentation!" I love that so much This is actually their "pop" album, the hardcore fans kinda joke about this one being much more accessible than their other work. Some of their earlier material dips into noise, free jazz, grindcore, freak folk among other genres

@@midkingsteve Thanks, I'll check it out!
Thank you for mentioning the time signatures too, they deserve so much respect for that alone.
I love your username lmao
@@atotallyrandomperson3889 you're the first to ever compliment it! Thank you 😊🖤
Bro you gotta either go earphone mode or very loud speaker mode in a room with good acoustics

This is a very well known album and it has been since it came out. You are not ahead of the times

Definitely my favorite album of all time. So many layers that you always discover new details no matter how many times you’ve heard the song.
In the flowers gives me chills every freaking time. Love AnCo more than life itself.
This album is what plays in spongebob’s head every day
Another great reaction Tony!
Great choice - Summertime Clothes is a song that has stuck with me.
Nice, Im the first viewer. I really like your Death Grips reactions by the way
React to Schlagenheim by Black Midi!
next time you listen to them you should wear headphones. it takes you to another world
Please make a reaction video for Person Pitch, it’s a solo album from AnCo member Panda Bear.
obsessed with this reaction ✋ Animal Collective is the best thing since the Beatles
Maybe the best review of MPP I've ever seen!
Lion in a coma is 9/8 I think. Good review!
If you haven't listened to The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, you neeed to react to that
Unfortunally for the channel, I already know the album very well, man. But I do like it.
Cheers!
Habla de Animal Collective y este disco en Helado Alternativo bro
I think Summertime Clothes is my favorite- says one guy in the entire planet.

you are part of a tribe now :)
Hey, it's the guy who recommended Spiderland. This is my favourite album - hope you enjoy it!
Haha your reaction to the In The Flowers drop I love it
"If only more indie songs were like this" I feel your pain dude! Nothing comes close to this apart from AnCo's other work

"I wonder if there's a specific name for how this sounds"
Chillwave!
Although most chillwave artists are just AnCo clones
Bruh do ark, sung tongs, or feels please.
AnCo are the best
you are cute and i love this album
