    My favourite part is when he scores the goal and the kid (who is probably a very reasonable height) has to launch himself into Karmanov's arms

      I was happier to see that he could catch a kid like that while on skates. His ankles/knees/back must be in good shape, which isn't a given at that height.

    It would be so sick to see a video done on the 2022-2023 Seattle Thunderbirds who on paper, are the best junior hockey team of all time - 6, possibly 7 1st Round NHL Picks (9 within first 2 rounds), 18 total draft picks, possible 1st round pick in 2025, 6 members from 2022 WJC Gold Medal Team (Dylan Guenther with golden goal), possibly by the time they're out of the WHL, this team will have had 20 NHL draft picks (Goalie Thomas Milic, CHL Goalie of the Year runner up (should've won), WHL Goalie of the Year, and WJC 2022 Gold Medal winning goalie).

    The first thing that impressed me was his skating. Maybe it's an optial illusion because he's so tall. He also seems to be fairly well coorrdinated, mush better than average for kids that get that tall that fast. I think he could use some bulk put on maybe 25 or 50lbs if muscle. Would also like to see him develop a slapshot. With that size and reach he'd have a rifle. Tremendous potential.

    With continued improvement & lack of serious injuries, this kid will be an all-star stud/powerplay specialist both in front of the net and at the point. Doesn't take a genius to see the athleticism & balance just from those short clips. His long strides will hunt down any forward within his gap zone. My friend was 6'6'' forward playing a bit of Junior Hockey and had nowhere near his level of balance & skating ability. Hope the Red Wings can draft the next Zdeno Chara.

    I've seen and experienced guys like him, his skating skill and hockey IQ is a great asset. The one thing I've seen from him that has improved is his wrist shot, this will get him to the next level in the pros. However, his legs are his biggest downfall as his hips don't cooperate with his legs, his upper body does not equally balance his legs. If it were me as a coach I would put him more in the weight room otherwise, on the next level he will get seriously injured. If you want to look at height advantage: A good example would be someone like Wayne Gretzky, Mike Modano, Mario Lem., just to name a few. What did they all have in common? They were in a height of 5'11" to 6'1" tall and all of them were great players. However, there were a few exceptions that worked on weights or in weight rooms to build thier upper body strength like: Jamor Jaugr,

  • @chevelle1
    @chevelle1 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Chara was an anomaly, the rare exception. There is a point where being too tall is a hindrance in hockey. (Goaltending aside). Really tall players have been mostly busts.
    Everyone thinks of height when it comes to size of a player. Weight is just as if not more important. And more specifically where the weight is distributed. There’s 5ft10 players bigger than 6ft1 players. Think Brad Marchand. Lower center of gravity, built like a cigarette machine, like a bull. Reality is, these abnormally tall players are more like beanpoles and can’t get built like that.

    Some people at or near his height look very uncoordinated. You see this with some of the crazy tall basketball players; they aren't actually that athletic (ie agile, nimble, reactive), they can just operate literally above everyone else. I could see a 3rd round pick being used on him IF his skating improves and he begins to dominate. Guys like Point dropped with more offensive skill because of their skating. Maybe he's taken with a 6th or 7th round pick at that point, but if he goes undrafted that'll be a huge (no pun intended) mistake. Skating is so easy to fix especially with an NHL roster, that it kind of gets overblown to me. If Karmanov makes it to even the AHL, he's going all the way. I don't see him being Chara level good but I can see a consistent 3rd pair D who's a fan favourite and is a big morale booster.

    It will be interesting to see if this young player can make it to a pro league here in North America, then he would have to perform the same way with players only three inches shorter, for example Mister Rempe, instead of everyone at least a half a foot shorter, now I know three inches in height matters, but still...
    Additionally, when I was 12 years old debating with my teammates why we could not have a sumo wrestler don the pads and play in net, shutout city right?
    I imagine if this gets out of hand, not only will the NHL have equipment size regulations but player size regulations as well...no one over a certain height or weight, lol.

    He’s 16! He may not end up in the NHL until he is 21 if he plays in the NCAA, assuming he gets there, but with 5 years to develop, the potenital is high. As they say, you can’t teach someone to be tall.

    Hockey is not basketball. Skill and speed is WAYYYYY more important than size (to a certain extent). Once you are 5'10", 6', 0" and extremely fast and skilled, the extra height and weight is not necessarily a benefit. Not to mention getting underneath other players with your stick and body is the name of the game with hockey.
    If he is fast, if he is extremely coordinated, he can be a good defensemen. but the skill and speed need to translate or the height is not a factor in him developing.

    Probably from 6'5" up height starts to work against you especially in modern hockey. And at 7' you have the additional downside of being so long you get injured easily. Hockey is an especially bad sport because of the physical nature. Being so lanky makes you very vulnerable.
