I have been using Apple’s leather and silicone cases for the past months on my iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. These are both good cases with their own set of strengths, but depending on your style and what you look for in a case, one may be better over the other. Today I will go over everything you need to know. PRICE. $49 / £49 Silicone case. $59 / £59 Leather case. COLOURS. Silicone case, 8 colours. Leather case, 5 colours. Both in Midnight. DESIGN COMP. From outside, cases have similar silhouette. Though Apple logo on leather case is embossed - very sharp. INTERIOR. Both feature nice microfibre interior. Helps protect your phone from scratches when taking case on and off. FIT. Each case activates Apple’s MagSafe animation, nice touch. Both have a tight fit around the phone. FEEL IN THE HAND AND GRIP. Silicone case has this nice soft finish. Compared to previous silicone cases from apple the silicone is smoother less sticky. Leather case with natural texture has this premium feel that only leather can give. Grain texture in the supple leather provides a bit grip while still feeling smooth to the touch. Both cases feel good in the hand. To me the leather case actually feels a bit more grippy. While the impact absorbed silicone feels a bit more durable. BUTTONS. Leather case has colour matched aluminium buttons that feel clicky - I like this, just like pressing the buttons on iPhone. Silicone case, buttons are darker to match the Apple logo, made of the same silicone as case so are a bit more mushy and not as tactile. RAISED EDGES. A feature I always find important in a case is raised edges. Both cases feature a plastic raised edges by the camera and around the display to protect from surfaces. THICKNESS. Area that surprised me, I thought leather case would be thicker. But leather case is only a hair thicker. Also worth mentioning that unlike the leather case, the silicone case does attract pocket lint, this can be easily wiped off but for me this is something I am not a big fan off. WHO’S EACH CASE FOR? Leather case: More classy, Pairs seamlessly with leather wallet, Premium feel in the hand. Silicone case: Better for more active lifestyle, More impact resistant, Slightly lower price.

I was stuck with this decision earlier this week, but after some time I made a choice and I think most of us will agree that the Leather Case is just better, mainly due to it being more durable than the silicon case.

Like, I've had to RMA my first Project RED case for the 14 Pro Max because it started chipping. Now the replacement is chipping. So I decided to just pick up an orange leather case..here's hoping it fares better.

I actually have the same problem currently.
Bought a product red silicone case. A few days after, I accidentally dropped my phone, face down. As soon as i picked it up, the edge of the case started to come off, resulting in a tiny abrasion on the stain less steal edge of my phone. Will give leather a try.
Honestly I’ve tried so many cases and for some reason I always end up going right back to my Apple silicone and leather.. I feel like the fit and look of Apple cases are always the best in my opinion.

I was surprised by the lack of durability considering the price of the silicone place, they always seem to chip off around the corners. In the end I moved to an otter box silicone case, far more durable.

I just got my iPhone 14 Pro Max case but the clear case one. I was even hesitant at first because of the open cut at the bottom but, it feels good and better now. I’m no longer seeing it as a problem
@tthegoldensouls I would probably go for the leather just because of how beautiful it looks but the silicone is never a bad option just because of the protection that it provides. Though it collecting pocket lint is such a bummer.
Thank you so much for this vid. I went for Leather green case and I also asked in store if I can try silicone one. I ended up buying both of them and It was a good decision. Surprisingly, I hate silicon cases but this one is awesome. I really dont know if I like leather one or silicone one more after buying and testing both 😂

I have owned the leather case on the 14 pro max and the silicone case on the 13 pro. I love the silicone case. Fits the device perfectly and gives your iphone a lot of grip in your hand while smoothing down the stainless steel edges i find quite sharp. Magsafe is even better due to the added silicone grip so my leather wallet doesn't slide around as much as without having a case on. But the buttons on the leather case are so nice as they are metal.
I do know the leather case will patina over time and the silicone case will wear down but thats just due to the nature of the materials.

This is the review I needed I’m getting the silicone case
I’ve been using the silicone case for some time now but so far the only thing I like about it is how many and nice colours Apple offers for them unlike the leather cases. This silicone case just grips onto any surface(namely my pocket) and it makes it annoying to pull out. Moreover it also is a lint magnet which I also can’t stand. I’m about to switch to the leather case hoping these problems will go away with it but damn those colors are boring!

I tried both cases on my phone 14 pro, I prefer the leather case so premium nice on the hands, silicone collecting dust from everywhere. Leather is better choice in my opinion also both cases don’t add in bulk to the phone.
@lucursetan i would definitely go with the leather one, i personally like leather more (same for wallet) but the look of it just seems more premium, i LOVE the metal buttons on the case! also like you mentioned, the leather one has more grip, so that makes the difference for me!

I’ve been using silicone for years but went for leather on iPhone 14. Leather looks bad already after 3 months of use, reaching for silent button is a challenge on that case, I went back using silicone now for practicality. If I have the leather newly bought again, I will not use it daily but instead in a fancy places maybe just to keep the leather looking great. The things they said about leather feels better in hands, that’s subjective because silicone feels better on gadgets and leather on other stuffs like chair, wallet or car interior

I love both, If I'm going to a meeting, night out I'll use the midnight leather. But if I am out casually, or in the house I'll use silicon. :)

I have a leather case, and it looks good and all but after a week of use I started to notice the case started to peel off and get every single bit of dust and dirt stick to it

I would go for a Leather case!
After using leather case I decided to go with silicone, also in midnight color. Feel in hand is way better and I would say it looks better on space black phone but lint from packet is terrible if you're wearing jeans. I'll try storm blue or some lighter spring colors. Grip and feel are big plus for silicone case.

The midnight color just makes the bezels look bigger than they actually are, especially in dark lighting. With a bright color, you can easily see where the bezel ends.
I just got the silicone case in midnight and I can already see the upper right edges on the front already chipping. It hasn’t even been a week. Should’ve spent the money on a casetify instead.

I face issue When removing from Pocket silicone case feel stick into the pocket
I like both but the silicone gets lint to easy and leather gets scratched too easy. Both have pros and cons but leather looks better even though it wears faster.
Is there a third party silicone case that holds up better over time? The apple cases tend to chip and scrape off and I've cut myself before by not replacing them quickly

@alessandroninotti Probably i would take the silicon one just because it won't damage it like the leather one, but I prefer the look that gives the leather cover.
Those cases look brand new, it would've been useful to compare the wear and tear since it is quite known that both of them can get quite bad

I have both. I like the look of the silicone case but from my experience I still find it tends to attract lint and oil more easily. The leather case doesn’t have this issue but I do find it shows signs of wear more easily than the silicone. So both are great in my opinion but if i had to choose one I’d go with the leather for a more premium feel.
5:17 what screen protector are you using on your 14 Pro ? The one that covers speaker grill. Looks sooo clean and like how close to the edge of the screen it is

My Problem with the silicon case is that they tend to attract a great amount of smudges and it annoys me greatly. On the other hand the leather case is not something I got the chance to use so I have not yet formed a opinion.
I have experience with both over a number of years. In the end I prefer the leather one, because of its look and the way it “matures” over time

Hi Hector, having used the Apple silicone cases over the past 5 years, I see improvement from the issue you mentioned. However, as said in my video, Apple produces more to please the eye than for durability.

I got the leather one about a month ago and, MAN! it's not holding up too well, the edges are already showing the so-marketed "patina" showing a quite different color from the rest of the case, also the case it's been a little loose tbh, it's not giving me the premium feeling at all, it's quite a disappointment case it looks fantastic and it feels amazing to use, just the quality seems to not be the best, it might have just be my unit and bad luck that I got a bad unit but, since I don't live close to an apple store then nothing can be done, if you need help with it you HAVE to take it to an apple store :(

Yes, you can, silicon cases hold up much better than leather cases, but I would do it sparsely though. Tepid/warm water with soft soap is another option

Both cases are good. I believe it's important for the protection of the phone. Even though i haven't try leather i guess it's better than silicon because it don't get scratches and its texture is more comfortable.

I’ve used both cases over the years with different phones. You can tell the black leather is brand new with 0 wear or patina at all.
Leather cases turn ugly very very fast it only takes 1 drop to cause some real damage. Silicone is more annoying day to day as it gets caught in my jeans while the leather was always smooth and grippy at the same time. If you are clumsy the leather probably isn’t for you.

@anvesh9009 I prefer the leather case as the silicon case I used before buying the leather case would hold on to a lot of dust as well as lint when I struggle to pull it from my pocket. But I must say the silicon case provides a good grip and slightly better protection than the leather.

Yeah I was rocking the silicon version on my 13 mini and i went through three as the silicon would start falling apart. Bought the leather and I’m glad I did bought it used for $12 and it’s holding together perfect I guess you get what you pay for

Silicone Case - Midnight
i would not recommend the original Apple Silicon Case. I bought it and it ripped after 6 days. I was able to return it. I also know people with the silicon case for the iphone 13 pro and they almost los all silicon on their case. Apple uses a hard plastic case and cober it with a really thin silicon layer. I bought a 15€ "full" silicon case on amazon and i am really happy with it.

Noy gonna buy the silicone anymore. Got one on my 7, 8 Plus, and 12. None of them lasted more than a year without chipping and discoloration on the corners. The leather one that i got on my 11 Pro lasted longer tho, about 3 years.
