But once I figured out how the color calibration in Lightroom actually functions, it completely changed my color grading in Lightroom.

If HSL targets specific colours which in majority of the cases we wish to target individual areas why and when would we actually use calibration where we want to change a specific colour but in the process end up changing every single pixel that this colour has? In a real life example I would want to target a landscape with background but leave one of the trees with a different colour unchanged. Using calibration would affect both the background and the tree isn't it?
Yes you wouldn't be able to do that with Calibration. But also with HSL I would imagine the result is not going to be that good. Simply because in most photos nothing is purely one color, a green tree will also have some yellow or orange in there for example. To achieve your example I would work in two layers in Photoshop using a mask.
@@SightseeingStan I suppose like any other tool we would have to incorporate a lot of practice with Calibration to explore the possibilities. Theoretically there might be some constraints that must not justify its applications.

when I open shadows under calibration , my shadows are grayed out cant change the shadows

I've seen a lot of photos where all the greens were turn into some kind of deep Blue.. but I've never been able to recreate it using just LR, is there a way?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean but you can do a lot with the combo HSL - Calibration - Color grading
