I hope you enjoyed the video!
Have you quit your job? What wisdom do you have to share with others?

I quit my corporate job as an accountant when I was 43. I also gave away all of my possessions, moved into my truck, and started traveling. I was rather surprised at how intrigued people were by my new lifestyle. One woman I met told me she wanted me to write a book so she could read about my life as a nomad. That was in Feb 2021. I have since written seven books, and I save more money per month living in my vehicle than I ever could living in my apartment.

Thank you Alex. This was also my path. 10 years ago I quit a 15 year career in big pharma. Followed the heart and moved to India. The most important aspect for me was to open up space for what needs to come in. Oh and some savings. And low expenditure. Now I find myself approaching making ends meet with acupuncture practice - from the heart.

I really resonate with "opening up space for what needs to come in" - I needed to quit first to get clarity on what was next. Thanks for sharing, James.

When I quit with no plan I also at least had savings. Kept telling myself I need to get to x point to be able to leave but realized there will never be a perfect time. Got to the point where I subconsciously knew it was time and worth the risk even if the plan wasn't concrete. It is the societal norm to avoid risk, but I like that you realized this risk was worth taking. End of the day it is really you that has all the information and can't let others decide.

How much did you have saved up before you left? What are you doing now? I think the biggest thing for me is that I failed in previous endeavors so many times it makes me project an image of a failure and a loser so I don’t want to leave my job. For some reason, I am quite successful in my career but when it comes to personal things, I just never do it and not consistent/disciplined.

@@adammorra3813 I had over 2 years expenses saved without including retirement accounts for emergencies. Funny thinking about it now and how I could have taken the leap much sooner without any wife or kids I need to support. Very similar to you where I never trusted myself to leave until proven I could do something on the same level as my career to replace it.
Started learning about stock markets in 2020 and fell in love with it and the idea of making enough "passive income" to replace my job and become financially independent. Throughout the 4 year journey was intrinsically motivated to learn everything I could... stocks, dividends, options, crypto, day trading. Long story short, never quite made it big enough with investing and trading to feel comfortable leaving and mostly broke even or at a slight loss being funded by my job that I was trying to escape. Was only once it got bad enough at work that I realized it was the main thing negatively impacting my trading. I had all the knowledge and skills, but I kept trying to hit big homeruns to escape my job rather than control my risk.
Leaving became the best thing for me to do to get my head in the right place to focus on my trading. Been 3 weeks and working out well so far, but I am not forcing it. I know there are tons of opportunities online to make money or work remotely part time if I had to. My motivation is stronger than ever because I never want to return to the corporate life.
The mind is smart. In my experience if I'm not disciplined it is because what I am doing is not actually important to me at that time. The things I "should" do have usually been what family, friends or society wants me to do that I project on myself. Once I found something I loved, discipline just happened because I want to keep learning about trading and don't need to force myself. I started wanting to focus on getting better physically and mentally because it would help me not get overly emotional and trade better. I still have a long way to go, but I hope my story helps in terms of your own self-reflection.

Thanks for posting this Alex, I found it really helpful. I always have considered #1 and #3 because that’s the easiest for logistic reasons and goes into the how and the very practical steps of quitting your job and making sure you are going to survive . What I didn’t consider is my mindset, just a vague sense that I want to quit but not a future to run towards. I also have very low self-belief in myself from my past failures and feels like I would already fail and would need to find another job after a year but at least it would of been a nice time off and an experiment. Can you go into a bit more about the mindset and how you changed your beliefs in your next video? I think not enough videos are done on the mental aspects of this journey.

Good video idea. What helped me was doing meditation and self-reflection to realize how negative my thoughts were towards myself and beating myself up over everything. It was myself that was my biggest critic and others were just amplifying that energy. Once I noticed this I was able to slowly break the cycle and be a little less harsh. Started making room for some of my positive traits such as persistence and perseverance through the tough times. Best of luck on your journey!

Hi Adam, glad you found the video helpful! As far as mindset, one big turning point for me was getting laid off, it instantly changed my mindset and I knew I wanted my own business. As far as confidence in myself, I went through a lot of trial and error (discussed in my "how my side hustles prepared me" video) that allowed me to get experience in a low stakes environment, make mistakes, and grow. I really try to view everything as a learning experience (rather than the more black and white view of successes and failures - I'm sure there are learnings and small successes in what you consider past failures) and these days I try to take the approach of do the thing and make small improvements next time (vs. aiming for perfection).

Naw brodette, you can go back to engineering - just pick software engineering - you don't need a license and you'll make more money than any "real" engineers. It also takes significantly less time to learn the fundaments for software engineering than any other discipline. You and I both screwed up, we should have picked software engineering. The last 10 yrs in software was a total gold rush, not sure it if will be like that in the future, but you definitely can go back to engineering through that route. Brave of you to quit, and I'm rooting for you. Thanks for sharing the story.

I am Mahedi and I have been working as a Digital Marketer and TH-cam growth specialist for the last three years.
I was analyzing your TH-cam channel and I feel maybe you are quite worried about the growth of your TH-cam channel. Because the quality of your content is so good but your channel views and subscribers are not increasing accordingly. I found some of your channel issues. Your channel's videos are not SEO optimized. The keyword section of your videos is not properly customized. Video related keywords are not used in your description box. No link building has been done behind your video. Your video has not been promoted on any social media for organic growth. The most important thing is that your channel is not monetized.
If you want I will help you to solve those problems in your channel and also help you to get your potential subscribers and views from your targeted location.
