    • @icyknightmare4592
      @icyknightmare4592 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Earth is an extremely strange planet. It's had liquid water for billions of years, is located in a system of nearly spherical planetary orbits, and has an enormously large satellite. The surface conditions of Earth, with its sheer diversity of climates, are probably one of the rarest natural occurrences in the universe. It only seems normal to us because we evolved here. To some alien fish on an icy water moon, Earth would be one of the oddest things they've ever found.

    • @antssaar863
      @antssaar863 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on way he/she/it can detect planets. We cant see planets even on closest solar system realy, only when they pass their star. In other hand, if someone can "listen" on earths radio frequencies.. yeah it would look quite bizarre. If they somehow have way to see actual planet.. they would see night side and that its lit up like mini-sun, lol.

    • @Shachza
      @Shachza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      "You don't know you're from a deathworld until you leave it."
      It's fun to think that there are aliens from perfectly climate-peaceful (to them) worlds out there, looking down on us, and wondering how we can possibly survive this horrible, deadly world of ours.

    Makes me sad that even though I'm 26 turning 27 soon I will never learn some insane shit about the universe. Yeah, it was sweet seeing a photo of a black hole, but we still have no idea what happens in them. These deep answers, the visuals to come after I'm gone, I'll never see.
    There have been some monumental things I've had to think about so far even though I'm so young, like the multiverse theory with the apparent "bruise" at the edge of the universe from ours hitting another one, or even the whole simulation theory... I could go on, but the ones I would love to know are going to escape me.
    Tech has gotten better immeasurably in my short time so I hope it can progress enough to where we can reach the required level while I'm still around.

I can find exaclty *zero* evidence indicating that DMT "literally eats your spinal cord in a traceable chemical pattern" or "slows down the wiring to your brain". The only people who shouldn't ever fuck around with psychedelics are schizos like yourself. That being said, take your prescribed meds, schizo.

      The interpretation that the quasar is actually an x-ray source in or in front of the galaxy comes from a 2005 paper (arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0409215). The author, Halton Arp, was an advocate for what was called intrinsic redshift and a model that held all quasars were actually objects around galaxies, smaller and nearer than the mainstream cosmological model makes them out to be:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-standard_cosmology#Redshift_periodicity_and_intrinsic_redshifts
      According to the Wikipedia article: "The biggest problem with Arp's analysis is that today there are hundreds of thousands of quasars with known redshifts discovered by various sky surveys. The vast majority of these quasars are not correlated in any way with nearby AGN [active galactic nuclei]. Indeed, with improved observing techniques, a number of host galaxies have been observed around quasars which indicates that those quasars at least really are at cosmological distances and are not the kind of objects Arp proposes. Arp's analysis, according to most scientists, suffers from being based on small number statistics and hunting for peculiar coincidences and odd associations. Unbiased samples of sources, taken from numerous galaxy surveys of the sky show none of the proposed 'irregularities', nor that any statistically significant correlations exist."
      The mainstream interpretation is that quasars are very distant, heavily redshifted objects, and that this one is simply shining through it (chandra.harvard.edu/blog/node/150):
      "The fact that a background quasar can be seen through the disk of NGC7319 does not make it special; the galactic disk is quite thin and much of the gas and dust has been stripped out of it by encounters with the other galaxies. Arp's arguments (published in the Astrophysical Journal in 2005) rest on the idea that it is very unlikely to find a background quasar whose position in the sky is so close to the center of the galaxy. However, his estimate of the number of quasars in the sky is too low, and misses the point that the gravity of galaxies (and groups or clusters of galaxies) will act as a lens, making it easier to detect quasars behind them. In the same year a study looking at quasar counts behind 200,000 galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey showed the numbers to be exactly as predicted by standard cosmological models."
      The interpretation of quasars being extremely bright and distant also works with gravitational lensing (as in #7 on the list), which wouldn't be the case if they were relatively small objects close to galaxies.

    My favorites were #7 the double quasar and the potential exoplanet crossing billions of years in front of it causing a dip in the light. Imagine trying to plan that one out in advance. Next was #5 Hoag’s object, what are the chances of finding something as unusual as that and dead smack within it (from our perspective) is another example of the same thing. Thanks John for such interesting videos.

    Congrats on 200K subscribers! I enjoy these Top 10 and their interesting insights. You do keep Physics & Astronomy alive for me weekly.
    When I think of the universe i rationalize it being like a massive planet with lots of cuties and the cities shining brightly are like Galaxies. In between are all interstellar space those cities. Thus it’s my theory that interstellar space is full of unknown objects we are unaware of. It’s like people living way out in the county areas away from the cities. From space, what you see is mostly the lights of cities looking down on the planet with all their lights. But there surely are lots going on in between all those cities on the planet below. So I think interstellar space being very vast, is also full of stuff that don’t always shine bright like regular galaxies.

Space is just so inspiring yet terrifying, but I feel like its the only real thing. Somehow I feel like the universe is more my home than earth is... it just feels right exactly the way it is, everything about it is perfect.

Last week there was another article, "Breakthrough Listen to Collaborate with Scientists from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) Team to Look for Signs of Advanced Extraterrestrial Life" What are you thoughts on that? I think there is a good chance that advanced life does exists in the Milky Way.

    8:55 know what else is astronomically unlikely to happen?
    That the only single moon that orbits the only single planet with sentient life on it in the solar system, is at the exact right distance from said planet to produce a perfect solar eclipse, at the exact right time that said sentient species developed astronomy capable of detecting this.
    That blows my mind, and yet very few people think about this.
    Because at the age of the dinosaurs, the moon orbited closer to Earth, and as such would have covered up the corona as well, not a perfect 1:1 eclipse at that time. The fact that this perfect eclipse happens at THIS time, and on THIS planet, from its ONLY moon (the chances would be greater if we had a dozen moons), is astronomically unlikely to the point of almost being divine intervention.
    Now, i do NOT subscribe to the divine intervention idea, but i'm just saying....
    Incredibly illogically unlikely astronomical coincidences happen more commonly than mathematics state they "should"....
    We should NOT have a moon that perfectly sized and spaced in relation to the sun. But we do. Who knows why...
    *Edit:* Regarding Hoags Object, you also forgot to factor in another thing in that observation.
    Not only is it astronomically unlikely to have two of these rare objects seen "through" each other like that, it is also exponentially even more astronomically unlikely to have THAT particular field of view, occur from the PERSPECTIVE of the HOMEWORLD of a newly arisen sentient technologically advanced civilization such as ourselves.. Do you get my drift?
    If this line-up happened as seen from Orion, fair enough. Cool.
    But it happened as seen from Sol, with Earthlings capable of appreciating it. What are the odds of THAT?
    And not only that, but the fact that this line-up occurs at this TIME when we are able to observe it, this line-up could have happened 1 billion years ago when there was nobody to see it, as galaxies drift and perspectives change. But it's lined up like this right NOW, when we're here to see it.
    If you do the math, this sort of double/triple-coincidence should simply NOT occur. Yet it does, frequently.
