I found that if I use a straight stitch in a larger length when I sew my core layers, it helps to keep my core from stretching out of shape and getting wonky.

Hello! My resolution for this year is to get closer to my body and my cycles and making cloth pads would be perfect. I have a sewing machine but I don't know how to sew so thank you for the easy instructions. :) My questions are: (and maybe you mention this in another video) how do you clean the pads? If you use the PUL, can you dry them in a machine? Do you have little bags to keep the used pads snug in your bag while you're on the go?
I also have the same trouble you have with your zorb fabric stretching while stitching.

not sure if i will get an answer, but just wondering if that is 500gsm bamboo fleece....ive watched a bunch of your videos and you talk about having a really heavy flow.....mine was really bad this month and 2 layers of 500 gsm bamboo fleece wasn't enough.....i used cotton topper and soft shell fleece back in some, and hidden pul in others ....the softshell leaked straight through and the pul ones leaked off the sides.....any suggestions would be great....thanks so much, i really enjoy your videos and hope all is still well with you

You can use it either way round, i prefer the bobbly side towards the body :-)

You can get free patterns online or in cloth pad groups on facebook, there are lots available! You can even buy them on etsy too. I am afraid i do not offer my patterns for sale or free as they took me months to perfect/send to testers etc and i use them for my own pads that i sell.
Whitney sews offers a free pattern I just found here is her TH-cam link telling you how to get it
couldn't post the link but you can search for her channel she also has a video on "wet bags" for storing them if you need that
I'm new to both sewing and cloth menstruation pads.. The videos I've been watching always seem to place to snaps on the wings so the pretty designed side would be the side getting bloody.. Seems like you'd have the fleese facing your body.. It seems like it would absorb the blood better.. Am I right?
Pretty side to your body, as the zorb and rest of the absorbant layer is the between that and the PUL. If you had the black side up, it goes straight to the PUL (breathable plastic) layer, with nothing in between.

Hi, how much seam allowance do you give for the topper and how much smaller is the code than the top?
therese bizabishaka I generally go for around a cm or a tad more seam allowance and the same again less for the core :-)

trendafile I got it at a fabric show, I've never seen it in a fabric store but I'm sure you might be able to get some online :-)
how many layers of each inner did you use? and do you use pul on all your sizes or just the bigger one?
Lorna J How many layers depends on the absorbency amd core fabric you are using. I use pul in all my pads as it's the no leak layer with cord as the backer. if you were using a water resistent fleece backer like windpro then you could skip the pul. Everyone is different though and has a different flow, for me personally I go through all other backers unless there is pul.

Is it safe for PUL to iron the pad? Won't it be 'hurt' by a heath?
As long as your PUL is inside your pad and you are ironing on the top of the pad heat and steam will not damaged your PUL. Its actually safe to put PUL in a hot wash on 60 and in the dryer on hot as it was made for the medical industry and to be steralised :-)
What machine do you have? Is it a good one? (:
it's a Janome DC3050 and I have to say I love it! I got it last year and it's a brilliant machine :-)
Where can I buy zorb? can I use flannel?
The_Northend_Gypsy Zorb is purchased online, just search zorb 1 fabric in Google. yes you can use flannel for your core as an option too :-)

Monique Mcdowell I used PUL which is polyurethane laminate. it's often used in diapers too, I've never heard of the specific product name you mention but it sounds the same :-)

MaryFaith Mobley because it’s pretty easy if you get the snaps and tool. There are tons of videos on attaching snaps but it’s really not that hard. Your snap kit will come with instructions too
Am I being really stupid here? You make these to use them like you'd use any pad during your period yes? Seems a lot of effort for something you aren't going to see and neither will anyone else I hope?! Not during usage anyway!
Louise Davis Yes they are used just like a disposable but not thrown away. You can choose to make plain coloured pads or even all black or white it's personal choice. Many people though prefer nice patterns as it makes not the nicest time of the month a bit happier and you build up a collection of all different designs. It's not about other people seeing them just giving yourself a smile when it gets to that time of the month.

Louise Davis hello :) they potentially last for years so it's probs worth a couple of hours of sewing (to make a set) plus, no landfill waste and (for people like me) I get 'burnt' by commercial pads, I can't use tampons due to complications after having a 10lb baby and like others say they just make 'that time of the month' something that makes me smile. My daughters (23 + 17) also use them after just trying 1 they wouldn't go back to disposable (the 17 yr old is squeamish but even she doesn't mind the difference in process) I hope this helps?
