For me, High School felt more like Breakfast Club; which is the ONLY relatable High School movie teens should watch. The Musical films are filled with nothing but lies
Ah yes, the episode that made everyone hate Mabel. Even though it's not technically her fault...I mean, she's had the worst day of her life while Dipper got opportunities, wanting to grow up too fast with Ford. Mabel was at her lowest point, having a teenage crisis believing everyone she loves is leaving her. She grabs the wrong backpack on accident and just so happens, Blendin comes along, a time guy who Mabel and Dipper saved and befriended comes along and gives Mabel a chance to make another wish at her lowest. Bill is the one who exploits Mabel's insecurities about growing up and makes sure that she is at her lowest so she can willingly give up the rift and not think about it! That's my opinion anyway because I know what it felt to be at your lowest point and wanting to do something that seems likes a good idea at first but I will regret it later.
It's also Ford's fault, if you think about it. Had he been upfront about the Rift with the rest of the family, Mabel wouldn't just hand it over to BlendinBill. But it's happened and now we have to see how the Renegades React to the finale.

What I like to think about is that since Dipper shows signs of intelligence that potentially matches his, he most likely sees everyone around as a little bit dumb and not being able to fully make out the magnitude that is the Rift or what's in his journalls. I mean, in Dungeons and Dungeons, Ford only explained the math portion which turned away Mabel and Stan but when Dipper and soon Ford explain it as more creativity and gambling, they got it and even defeated the wizard. I think his time in the portal and his big brain have given him more of an ego that is essentially his downfall. Since Ford sees Dipper as his equal, he trusts him more but not his family with a life-altering rift even though they also went through the horrors of Bill and the crazy things they endured during Gravity Falls. Though, I wouldn't call this ego, more...I guess paranoia and trusts issues with a bit of ego in his and Dipper's skills and not thinking about the well being of his family.
What probably really sealed it for a lot of people is that we never actually see her make amends for it, and as far as we know, Dipper never even finds out about her role in it. Luckily, the later comic book tie-in fixed this.
it isn't just this episode that did, in multiple episodes Mabel has been overly selfish even if it is never in a malicious or bad intentioned way, and even the show points this out in Sock Opera where Bill points out that all he does is sacrifice what he wants for what she wants and that she never truly sees that. Granted in that episode and weirdmageddon she realizes that and finally does the same, but it still is the point that more times than not she puts what she wants over what he does, and until this episode she had a single moment in Sock Opera that made it look like that whole selfish trend was leading up to that, and then she goes right back to it for this episode. So i don't blame people for suddenly turning on her in this episode, because while everything you said is true, it is easy to overlook it due to things prior to this and her seeming to not learn her lesson from Sock Opera like it seemed she did, but i do agree that this particular episode gets a bit too much mabel hate than she deserves due to her selfishness being a bit more logical this time around.
For full context, it was only between this episode and the next a couple months later that it was revealed the show would be ending. Though as you'd imagine, a lot of the fans had been wondering what any third season might be like as it seemed all the stories were coming to their natural end. Alex Hirsch was quite admirably upfront that it was entirely his own decision and we shouldn't blame the Disney execs...though they WERE responsible for his not being able to tell us there wouldn't be a third season until this point, hoping against hope they could change his mind. On the plus side, ever since this show, we've gotten several more that have clearly been trying to recapture its magic, and some like Ducktales, Amphibia, and The Owl House have been pretty darn great too.
Honestly there are a lot of people who don't really like Mabel's character here. She gets mad at Dipper because he won't sacrifice the future he wants to stay with her, and that's a part of her character that doesn't really get resolved (well it does, but only in the comics). Bill made a point when he said that Mabel doesn't sacrifice anything for Dipper's sake. That said, she's 12. You've gotta give her a little slack for not being as mature as her brother.

He simply thinks more about consequences and the future more than Mabel so they're not going to react to things the same way and for people to expect that just because they're the same age will always be weird to me. Plus, the frontal lobe doesn't even fully develop until around 25 and that's essentially decision making central so if anything, it makes more sense that Mabel would be impulsive and spontaneous because she freaking 12.
Honestly if she hadn't had a really bad day she probably wouldn't have reacted so strongly. And I think that even if she didn't say anything dipper would have changed his mind sooner or later about staying in gravity falls. He was initially super excited but if he sat and thought about it harder, he might have wanted to spend his teenage years more normally.
@@memelord7567 Yeah, I think Dipper might have been so excited because of the adrenaline rush and also because finding the author of the journals was the thing he spent nearly his entire summer trying to do so it makes sense he'd initially take Ford up on his offer.

@@aidanrutter257 If I can throw my own hat into the ring, I personally love the Adventure Time Finale for multiple reasons but I accept that it has some pretty noticable flaws too regarding pacing and some missed opportunities and unanswered questions on account of the show ending before it was necessarily ready too. It's by no means perfect and if anything could even be seen as heavily imperfect but I think what seals it for me is that despite all of that is just how well it encapsulates the atmosphere for a finale. Everything from the opening to the credits gives you this chilling sense of "The End" and it all happens whether you like it or not, which is fitting given the circumstances and the message of AT as a whole. However technically the show is now still continuing with the specials on HBO Max so I suppose only time will tell when the real "END" begins and just how fitting that is
Nah man, Adventure Time's finale was amayzing, my favorite part was when Marcy and Bonnie kissed, was really cute, if I had to pick my personal favorite moment it would be when Ice King turned back into Simon for good
That alien flight scene was probably the highest adrenaline rush scene in Gravity Falls so far! It's not goofy, just straight up action with high stakes.
All I can say about highschool if I had to pick my favorite years of highschool I'd pick freshman and senior year. The reason is because both of them I decided with the later to treat it as if it were my first, as in treat it as any normal school year. As for sophomore and junior year well the mental state I was in had more to do with my personal life mainly due to some deaths in my family along with some personal family drama. As for my entire view of highschool well I've always viewed highschool like a John Hughes film where it's one part comedy one part drama. As for college well considering I have already done two summers of duel credit and almost done with my second year of college, my view point right now is kinda like a Noah Baumbach film mixed with Seinfeld.
One of the few flaws i found in this episode is... didnt Ford say he had a metal plate in his head? Would that be affected by the Magnet gun or is it a non magnetic metal?
Yea, the promised Neverland got butchered hard. I mean, the ending was terrible in the manga too, but the anime did it way worse. They rushed and/or skipped almost every single arc. Like, there would have been room for 4 seasons easily, maybe even 5.

She's 12, explicitly impulsive, and an objectively stupid extrovert. Why would she be a perfect person with the decision making skills of an adult? Just because Dipper has occasional decision making skills similar to that of an adult? Dipper, the objectively intelligent, explicitly contemplative introvert twin? The twin who's clearly written to be the general opposite of Mabel? They should have the same decision making skills and be equals amounts selfish? Also, Stan's arguably the most selfish character in the show, or maybe even Gideon.

Mabel is an impulsive, stupid extrovert that has made decisions on a whim because she was blinded by what she could get. Dipper is a contemplative, intelligent introvert with decision making skills occasionally similar to that of an adult. Decisions in his life have either been made by a parental figure or Mabel. The decisions he makes for himself that come off as selfish or weird are ones that usually pertain to Wendy or her friends in some way. The frontal lobe isn't even fully developed until around age 25 so technically, both Mabel and Dipper should suck at considering risks but no, Dipper has put in the extra work, not to mention that he's supposed to be Mabel's _OPPOSITE_ in many regards. It wouldn't make sense for Mabel and Dipper to have the same intelligence, same decision making skills, and same levels of selfishness because how would they play off of one another? The point is that they're not the same but twins not being carbon copies of one another isn't a bad thing.
