    I'd get a car dent specialist to try. The guys work miracles with a variety of suction cups and often levers to get behind the dent too. They've got tools that make it simple. Every car my ex leased for a couple of years... I'd pay the dent guy only £25 and he'd spend half an hour max. Unreal. There's gotta be a similar kind of dude local to you? You'd spend more than that on 5% of the clever levers and dollys and hammers he uses for just a couple of taps each... that's what you need! If you were prepared to let the guy drill a little working hole in bottom of tank, say 12mm, to put a decent punch or lever through... east fix? The dent guy will know where he wants the hole drilled for best results with the tools he has. Good luck. It's another good build. Great channel dude. Thanks

    I'm years late on this but I feel like this might be helpful. Find a music repair store that services band instruments and ask if they'll do some dent work on your tank. They'll have tools to access odd places from the inside to remove dents. Just a thought, love the build, I've learned a lot

    Regarding the gas tank, you could try to create a vacuum over the dent using a vacuum pump (obviously) and a cup with rubber edges to create a seal. I don't know if it will work but it might be worth a try if you have access to the equipment. best of luck!

    I watched some guy use an old cycle inner tube tied like a sausage at each end and stuffed into the tank where the dent was and then inflate the tube, the dents popped right out, haven't had to try this method myself but it looked legit. Great content as always, keep up the good work.

    A part of doing this stuff your self is knowing when to take it in I think that time has come for the tank maybe time to find a body place that will remove that dent and safe you time and hassle of trying to do it yourself. Short of that I can't think of anyway to do it with out messing up the paint. Ride safe man the bike is looking fantastic!

    You could grind the welds down on the bottom of the tank, taking the bottom out and remove the dents from the inside and then weld the tank back together.

    For $15 at Harbor Freight you might as well try the paintless dent removal kit they have. It didn't work on mine because the adhesive didn't stick to the crappy paint/primer on the tank, but if you have the factory paint it just might work!

    I've had success with heating the panel with a heat gun and the spraying it with a can of compressed air, held upsipde down so the liquid comes out freezing. Also, you can try creating a small controlled explosion inside the tank. Start with just a few seconds of propane blown into the tank, cap it off, then light it from the petcock port. Keeping the petcock open will leave a place for excess pressure to be released. If that doesn't work, use more propane. Or you can try a dent puller on a slide hammer.

    i would go for pressurize the tank and heat the metal up around the dent till it's glowing orange and it should pop out enough to then use filler to Finnish it off that's how i'd do it at least or tack weld small bolts to it and use a sort off horse shoe bracket and pull it out just my thought's on it, looking good so fare!!

    Hey Taylor, Generally when you want to manipulate materials, the warmer they are, the more easy they are to work with. Have you tried heating the tank up substantially and then push it out with the airwedges. Going from extreme heat to extremely cold might do the trick aswell, as long as it gets pushed out from the inside. Anyway, I think heat is the way to go!
    Good luck!

    Your only option is to pull the dent out. There are some great glue dent pullers out there for home use and some really good TH-cam clips. Hope this helps👍

    Well maybe you gonna have to do gypsum(or something like this material)two halves mold identical copying the tank and then when is solid grind dent out in order to look like original shape. Then close the tank into this mold and air pressure. Not easy but if you don't wanna cut the tank and weld back maybe only working solution.

    I think you might get water or moisture in the tray if you ride over water.
    Paintless dent removal tools. If you can get behind the dent, the rods with a rubber tip or duct tape should get it out. It takes practice first so you dont make a bunch of small peaks. The glue ones will work in the right spots.

    Hi. I’ve seen some videos where they glue large nails on to the dent then use the nails to ‘pull ‘ out the dent. You can then grind off the nails.

  • @garya3056
    @garya3056 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Taylor, the pro PDR guys use glue tabs and slide hammers sometimes and other times will use metal tools to push dents out carefully from the inside. In both cases, you will need to hammer down the “brows” that are left. The cheap glue pull things do not work and neither does the cold hot thing. But that workbench of yours, Man! What’s that about? 🏍👍🏻🏍

    I've been watching you long enough to know you're a good welder. Perhaps cut an access hole in the bottom of the tank and push the dent out from the inside, then weld hole shut.

      Yeah, I think that's the next thing I'm going to try. I have an old CB750 tank with some dents I can test it out on before I cut up this one.

  • @bmw1200rider
    @bmw1200rider 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    for the tank dent, can you reach the dent through the gas cap with a long rod? Attach the long rod to an air hammer and gently push the dent out.

  • @gixxer6
    @gixxer6 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the tank, the issue seems to be getting enough force behind it... what about standing the tank up on end and placing your air wedges or tube right up against the dent, then filling the tank with something like sand. This will hold them in place and direct most of the force towards the dent, when you pressurise them.

  • @rew2866
    @rew2866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seal up the gas cap airtight somehow. Put a Air compressor fitting on where the fuel petcock goes, pressurize the tank it should pop out the dent out.

    • @dpaul124
      @dpaul124 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have personally used compressed air to remove a similar but smaller dent in a gas tank. Seal it up and use a tennis ball cut in half in the gas cap. This way you can easily control the pressure by controlling how well the ball seals while air is filling the tank. Its a tough dent so I could see another part failing before the dent pops back in place. Good luck!

    Someone suggest the dent puller using hot glue it could work, I got tank dents out sealing the gas cap and threading a air valve to where the petcock goes fill it slowly with air, slowly it has work 15 out 15 times first time I did it it popped the cap open.

    Maybe you could cut a piece Out of the bottom of the tank and carefully hammer or press the dent Out. Then weld it Back together. I don't know if you have enough space on the bottom, but once its mounted Nobody will See it id guess

    If a professional paintless dent repair guy can't get it done with those specialty rods you will have to cut an access hole in the bottom. Those dents are creased, to strong for air or suction.

    Is the tank made out of aluminium or some other non-magnetic metal? You could drop in a good sized chunk of steel in through the gas cap and pull on it with an electromagnet from the outside with a decent amount of pull force.

    Does it have to be THE solution regarding the tank? Why not combine two methods? For example air pressure on the inside and glue/magnet puller on the put at the same time..

    Slowly pry at the dent from the inside while massaging it with a hammer on the outside, starting on the outer perimeter of the dent and slowly working towards the center.. It takes some learning, but once youve got the technique its easy.

    • @instantkaffeguld
      @instantkaffeguld 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Important!
      Do not apply too much force or youll stretch the metal, just enough that you can see it working itself out.
      It may take you a few cycles of the mentioned method, but it will get there.
