    Kathy, this tray turned out gorgeous. I've been watching lots of videos and I am wondering why not just put a heavy first coat of clear resin down and then just put the colored resin and glitters down once in the second coat. It just seems to me that a lot of the work gets covered with a second coat of the colors. I haven't done my first pour yet, but I keep wondering about this. Thanks so much.

    • @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO
      @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Barbara and thank you! For this piece, I wasn't planning on a second layer. But I prefer it to the first layer. I wasn't happy with that one, and that's why I added it. A lot of the work can get covered, but not if you use a lot of clear resin and control it well. I did a giant flower with a mold and the 1st layer or two is just a solid color to build up a nice base. The deeper the mold, you really should fill it up with resin, or your finished piece might be too flimsy. So many times with molds this large, multiple layers are necessary. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching 💗

    How do you know how much resin/epoxy to use and how much of the colors and glitter to put into the resin...what should the consistency be like?...Thank you!

    • @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO
      @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cindy!! And thank you for your patronage!! I pretty much eye ball it. But I try to keep the pigments under a 10% to resin consistnecy. You don't need a lot of pigment. The more you add, the more your resin will thicken up and become sludgy. Now, I do like that sometimes for my glitter as I want it to stay in place more. So the glitter I tend to add more than that 10% ratio. I hope that helps and makes sense!!

    • @cnbowles1
      @cnbowles1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DryerDaysArTsTuDiO Thank you...that does help but how do you know how much total resin to use for the tray...do you eyeball that two or do you calculate ounces somehow.?...

    • @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO
      @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cnbowles1 This mold takes about 12.5-13ounces. I know that a flat, 12x12 board takes 5 oz of resin. I double that for a mold and then if the mold is larger than that 12x12 size, I add ounces on for that. I try to share how much I use for each mold. I have added this info to the description of this mold in my store, thank you, Cindy!!!

    • @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO
      @DryerDaysArTsTuDiO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the resin you use. I used TotalBoat and demolded this after a day and a half. I then still let it lay flat for 2 more days. Resin is typically hard to the touch after 24, but still cures for a few more days, even weeks
