I’m Dr. Dana Brems, also known as Foot Doc Dana. I’m completing my third year of residency in Los Angeles. As a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), I treat everything from trauma including broken bones, other sports injuries, foot wounds, calluses, thick or ingrown nails; you name it! That's the most informing suture tutorial I've ever watched. Too bad it wasn't a tutorial...
I just learned how to suture in my bedroom, at 1am, with sewing thread, a needle that I bent, a banana, a pair of hemostats from my dad's fishing supplies, and this video. All of that at 14 years old... I'm pretty proud of myself right now.

They teach it in the military. Maybe just doing it for a hobby isn't too manly, but survival is. If you don't have these simple skills to survive then what do you have honestly.
Sewing is not manly, but neither is having to ask your mother or female friend just to repair a hole in your pants a really basic thing to do. I love how men can design and build suspension bridges, aircraft and cars but pushing a needle through some fabric is too difficult? It's not.
@@AaronHausmann I, nor anyone I know, was told to do stitches. Ever. We’re in unsanitary environments and that shit leads to infections. Our Drill Sergeants made that shit clear from day one. They don’t even let us to IVs anymore to prevent infection in deployed/training environments.
Tourniquets, that’s the answer to everything. Nasopharyngeal airways, bandages, pill packs, gauze. And most importantly water.
I’m trying to think if any of my medics did stitches.. I’m pretty sure no.
Also, for funsies, my wife is an ER Nurse in the Army. She, in the best hospital in the DOD/US Federal government, also doesn’t do stitches.
You know I’d rather have a professional do it safely than risking failing and be in more pain

@A B I'm sure it's a valuable skill to have. That doesn't change the fact that the initial presentation is stupid. Men can still be men and allow someone else to stitch them up. And if you're not in a survival situation you should get Professional medical care for any wound that's bad enough to need stitches. There are so many ways that could go terribly wrong without someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Also, women are in survival situations too. So let's teach everyone how to survive instead of making it a ridiculous mark of masculinity.

It's just a surgeons knot with a overhand knot to secure it. Pretty useful to know I use a surgeons knot when tying my shoelaces keeps tension while you do the loop to secure it.

In any country that can justifiably call itself a first world developed nation, you just go to the nearest hospital and have professionals provide you with top notch medical care after briefly showing your public health care card as you enter, which of course is a card that all citizens have, regardless of their employment situation or financial status.
You guessed it, I'm not talking about the USA. 🤣
Anything above that wait three weeks to see a specialist. If it is something really difficult send them to the USA where they spend the most on medical sciences and infastructure.
