MIKE ROSE understands how much expectations of people's aptitude, can unfortunately result in reinforcement of those beliefs about people. what's most unfortunate about THAT is the people in most control of the outcome, could profit more from a higher quality of interaction. What someone reveals to you, while reinforcing your expectations of them, isn't always TRUE. Our biases do not equate to the full definition of people, whether you want it to or not. But, again, as I write this, my own are in work of breaking down.
Ironically, I read two of Mike Rose's books, in 2009, during my being an autism play therapy assistant, in the Son-Rise program. Son Rise was created initially for the Kaufman's son, Raun Kaufman. Raun, once autistic, now has a degree in biomedical ethics from an ivy league college. I stumbled upon Rose's books, and was met with validation as a struggling non conventional student.
I love this man ! What a pity he is no longer with us . I wish people in charge of educational goals in our schools had taken more notice
