  • Upside-down fire - have you ever heard of these? I had not, but recently did and thought I would give it a try.
    First, it worked!
Second, the benefits: It required almost no work, just light it and leave it. Second it burnt longer for the same amount of wood used.
Third, the drawbacks: it took longer and did not get as hot.
Summary: It works, and might be best suited for a situation where you want a longer burn time out of your fire, but are willing to sacrifice warmth. I will probably stick with traditional fires for now, but it was a fun experiment!
    Thank-you for watching!

It works! 🤩 I want to grab a cup of hot chocolate and watch that fire for hours. It is one of those videos, like rain sounds, that should be recorded in a loop and used to relax and enjoy life.

I wouldn’t have thought this would work that well. I’m definitely going to try this tomorrow! Great video.

Just had a second stove installed. This one for my office / our living room. The installer suggested giving this a shot. Moran taing!

Howdy brother- I’ve done this in the past when we were having a council fire and wanted it to burn slowly. Neat way to do a fire. Happy New Year to y’all. God bless

After forty years of lighting woodstoves using the traditional "bottom up" method, I switched to this "upside-down fire" method about 3 years back. I doubted it would be effective, but after a few fires, it's the only method I now use. I heat full time with wood and anything I can do to make heating with wood easier and more effective, I adopt! Just try it, I'm sure you'll become a convert! Keep the great content coming. Watching from my cabin on the shores of Lake of the Woods here in north west Ontario.

Such a pretty, relaxing and quiet scene I had to watch it again. Makes me want to light a fire but I probably should not. I don't have a stove in my apartment.

Ha, sounds wise to hold off if you don't have a stove! Always good to hear from you. Maybe I'll be in Van next year at some point.

Clearly it works (which candidly, is a revelation for me) but is it quicker at getting the fire established? Great video- thanks!

I'd say no, much slower. BUT the wood burned for a lot longer. And it required no work other than set it up and light it. I'll probably stick with the traditional way, but this way would have it's uses.

just have white smoke - not start fire
and 3-5 minutes after, only star by the up
    see neostove
    or double can stove

It's 4:42 am here in Vancouver and I am sitting and watching to see if an upside down fire works. It does and 96 other people know it too. 24 likes and counting. The internet never lets me down.

If you're bored & don't need heat quickly this would be a method to experiment with. If you're busy & cold, start with the fire on the bottom.

Agree - or if you want the wood to burn for longer I thi k this method could be useful.

I switched to this method years ago (granted most of my fire lighting is campfires). The beauty is this method gives you the time to do your other chores while the fire builds. Rather than stopping other work it encourages it which warms you as you work. Wet/snowy ground, no problem either🙂
