I'm an Ellekers regular. It's a great project. I loved your reflective bit at the end of the video about how people can regard woodlands as arenas for activity rather than places where we can make relationships with ancient regenerative practices which enrich us and nature together. Thanks for shining a light on it.
Indeed Dan & Liz are doing some great work at Ellekers, so it was a joy to be able to spend time there. Even though the old practices are withering away, I do also see a resurgence of people fascinated by it and wanting to learn more, that can only be a good thing ~Peace~
Thank you so much for making this Zed - I live in York and will definitely be finding a way to get to the spoon carving and will be contacting Ellekers about opportunities to volunteer. 😁👍
You're practically next door to Ellekers Wood if you're based in York! Both Dan & Liz are super nice people and I have no doubt you'll have a great time there ~Peace~
Fantastic video Zed and Dan. Really looking forward to the more detailed series to come. Living in the USA where we were blessed with such an abundance of forests we never really developed a widespread history & culture of woodland management because more wasteful practices had seemingly fewer consequences. However, in more densely populated areas I think we need to encourage and develop these practices to preserve and manage the woods we have left. Especially to provide future generations access to outdoor activities and develop their connection to and love for our natural environment. ‘Too many screens and not enough woods - this is what I’ve seen - driven to tears, driven to tears. (Apologies to Sting & the lads.)
Sincerely appreciate your kind words and for watching. You mentioned the significantly larger distribution of forests in the USA and the subsequent way in which the resources from it are utilised, is something i've discussed with peers over the years. Indeed the UK is way smaller in comparison, hence the importance of proper management and sustainability ~Peace~
Hi Zed. Love all you do, and its great to see all the people you meet. A wealth of knowledge that you all love to share with us. Thank you for being so - you! Do you know of a spoon club in Dorset, as this is where I live? Thanks
Hi Steve, I sincerely appreciate your kind words and for your support of the channel, I really mean that. Reg a spoon club in Dorset, it's worth speaking to either Martin Hazell or Adam Hawker on Instagram (check my followers list there to find their profiles) and also speak to John Boe who runs the following business in Dorset - www.wildwaybushcraft.co.uk/ Either of those good Dorset folk will be able to tell you whats going on there. Hope that helps and best of luck! ~Peace~
I think that mismanaging woodland is a problem in most of Europe. In some countries, more than others, irregular or poorly planned cuttings are a big problem in Italy. That is because of people's greed and also ignorance. Yes, even people in the timber industry are mostly ignorant about trees and the ecosystem as a whole.

Thank you kindly my friend, not the sexiest of topics I know, but none the less very important ~Peace~

Thanks Zed. A future in depth series would be great. So many questions, and I bet you'll cover them all.

Thank you for your kind words, the latin name in the UK is Acer Pseudoplatanus ~Peace~
@@Zedoutdoors Thanks Zed! :) interesting that it is native here in central europe but not on the british isles!
