That whole birthday cake sequence was really emotional and you can see Ai Di starting their shared birthdays celebration without Chen Yi, but being hopeful that the next year he could have Chen Yi with him, then it didn’t happen, he was a little bit grumpy but he was wishing for the same. The third year you can see him losing hope, but wishing for the same and even if it hurts, he just wished Chen Yi to be there and the fourth year he was in a dilemma, not knowing if he should buy a cake to go through the same, until he talked with Zong Yi and he convinced him that it’s better to celebrate with the one he liked, so he was hopeful again, until Chen Yi broke their promise yet again and all hopes was gone. He was just crying while Chen Yi was celebrating somewhere else. For fourth years, he celebrated alone, but then Chen Yi, once he found himself without Ai Di, went to him to celebrate the fifth one, but Ai Di masked all his hurt and didn’t want to celebrate, he didn’t let Chen Yi broke him right there, he didn’t let Chen Yi see his vulnerable side even when he was tearing his heart apart, he didn’t put his emotions first, because he was bearing Chen Yi’s burden, because he felt bad the last time they were together and he left Chen Yi be the one there, alone, with the cake, their ages on top and lit candles for him to wish and blow. Now it’s Chen Yi the one wishing every year to have Ai Di by his side as he’s the one celebrating their shared birthdays. He was now the one carrying that burden, he was the one imagining all the times Ai Di was alone celebrating, all the times he was a fool and let that teen by himself. He took him for granted, he didn’t realize Ai Di’s value until the boy was not around anymore, and he was the one mourning a love that couldn’t happen and a person that didn’t want to see him 😭 I’m glad Chen Yi apologized to that boy that he imagined, that boy that had hopes and dreams that he shattered, that boy that just wanted to be with him. Ai Di deserved a heartfelt apology and he sympathized with him and felt for him.
The ability Louis has as an actor is uncanny, all his demeanors and even the way he breathes while playing a character full of vulnerability, how he conveys his emotions, how he plays Ai Di, it’s praiseworthy. He’s really nailing this character 💕

Can someone explain?! I didn't understand why he spend 4 years alone?! Meaning Ai Di went to jail but in the candles he put like 15, he can't have been 15 when he went to jail. Or is it that Chen Yi wouldn't celebrate his birthday with anyone but the person that he liked?

Wahh I was so sad when watching this scene because you realise in every year Ai Di blows out the candle, is a year his heart breaks every time 😢 with the way Chen Yi was always caring and jealous of anybody getting close to Ai Di convinced me that his feelings for his boss was nothing more than admiration than actually liking … I’m glad that by Ai Di leaving Chen Yi the way he did made him realise how much he meant to him and that there was no one more there for than Ai Di. It was also satisfying seeing Chen Yi crying at the end when Ai Di told him to throw everything away he found cause it meant nothing anyway but I’m also happy that Chen Yi chased after Ai Di to show that he could reciprocate the feelings that he has for him … lucky bastard !!
Okay, I do not get overly emotional most of the time but this hit me so hard. My heart broke for him in that moment. And for his pain to be realized …finally 😭
First time seeing Chen Yi with really teary eyes, if I'm not mistaken. And a full, radiant dimpled smile later in the episode - a first, too.
Both actors really nailed it at playing the different emotions, in this episode.
Ai had me sobbing😭 and then the ending, quit giving me trauma, just let us enjoy 1 episode😭😭😭

The way I was so invested to their story than the main couple is unforgettable. They're the most memorable second couple I have ever seen in a bl series. They make my heart ache and melt at the same time; Ai Di be the one that went through so much because of his love towards Chen Yi among all of them but he always try to cover it up. 😭
I'm just glad that he experienced being chased and courted by Chen Yi too even for a little bit compared to when he was loving Chen Yi alone. He deserve every bit of affection and attention from Chen Yi. 💘 My baby Ai Di.

I can fully sympathies with Aidi. Even when Chen Yi expressed his feelings, Ai di was not sure, willing to believe Yi Because he doesn't want to get hurt any longer. Ai Di is a strong man he knows what he wants and makes clear about everything, and also became a good friend to Zhong Yi. He's my fav character in this drama. It hurts everytime I see Aidi secretly wishes for Yi's attention care and affection. Al though he doesn't show his emotions because he knows Chen yi doesn't feel the same, he never made Chen yi uncomfortable by telling his feelings and was honest till the end. Despite knowing chen yi is biased towards the boss, Aidi never behaved childish or showed jealousy. Aidi is that slow yet the strong kind of love, that we all wished once had. And I'm so happy foe him that, he finally get to have his man to just to himself. I'm so ready to see lover Aidi. This will always be my fav taiwanese show. Also the main leads. I love their story too. Especially the man Zhong Yi is. I can forever talk about how much I love and appreciate both the characters Ai Di and Zhong Yi ❤️
i was personally chuffed seeing chen yi sad. even if chen yi didnt reciprocate ai di's feelings, the birthday promise broken/forgotten was really heartbreaking.

I felt Ai Di ' s pain when Chen Yi was not around him to celebrate the birthday together from changing the lyrics of birthday song. It when from " Happy birthday to you " to " Happy birthday to me" . I felt it hard.
The part that hurt the most was seeing aidi blowing the candles every year alone but how his words changed the first two happy birthday to you and a sad hopeful face to the last two happy birthday to me while crying and just putting the gifts away. 😢
ChenYi was a crap friend. Even if he didn't "like" AiDi and even without the pack that they'd celebrate together. How could he ignore or forget it was his younger "brother's/friend's BIRTHDAY?!

Chen yi feeling the all of the pain together now can't compare aidi crying since past 4 years alone. It's totally fine if chen yi didn't like aidi that way. But wasn't he the one always saying they're brothers. He didn't even care as a brother what can aidi expect from such a crap brother.
You can see he start wishing at 15 before blew the candles but the next he didn't even wishing anymore. After 4 years, he just cry and stop to wish. I totally get him tho😢
And then Chen Yo spent 4 bdays alone while Ai Di was in prison

So Ae Di spent 3 birthdays loving Chen Yi, unrequited, with no hope that his love would be returned and then also went to jail to help Chen Yi. Upon Ae Di leaving him, Chen Yi comes to the realisation that he also loves Ae Di too, tries to celebrate his next birthday with Ae Di and explain his feelings, only to be rebuffed in return. Then HE has to wait a further 3 years for Ae Di to get out, feeling that whole time that he has lost him. He got to feel exactly what Ae Di went through for the same period of time. If that isn't poetry I don't know what is. ❤

А потом, ты приваливаешь к нему в тюрьму с этим тортиком, свечками праздновать, осознав, как косякнул и жлешь, что всё образуется?? Отличный план, бро!! Браво!! И я была действительно счастлива, когда Ай Ди послал его, сказав, что все в прошлом, и все подарки, которые были для Чэнь И, стоит выбросить и попросил больше не приходить к нему. Это как бальзам на рану. Я рада, что Чэнь И стралал те годы, что Ай Ди был в тюрьме, осознавая возможность того, что Ди никогда не простит его, что чувства, которые он хранил много лет, угасли. Но, все же, я признаю, что меня немного отпустило, когда они всё-таки помирились, надеюсь, что они обретут свое счастье.)
