If there are any nurses who watched the video and seeing this comment please treat women as a human being before you judge them with there marital status... Thank you!

Amazing episode as always! The ladies did a great job explaining everything. Medical professionals need to be more sensitive to their patients. Im shocked and sorry at some of the stuff you guys have had to hear 😦

I got my first period when I was 12, when I was 16 I started experiencing severe stomach pain, back pain and various other chronic pain which continued until few months back this year, about 25 years of suffercation. When I first consulted the first female doctor, " oya marry karama oka hariyay, le ena marge podi, oyata dara ganna amarui" and proscribed me vitamins for several months. Vitamins were helpful but after sometime again the same drama. I have done 2 chocolate cyst surgeries.

You should have had an Ob/Gyn also in the program whem you discuss things that you are not an expert in. Endometriosis has many reasons not just retrograde menstruation. All these are present only in menstruating women and the natural cure menopause. However when the qaulity of life becomes low and too uncomfortable is when treatment is needed. Anyways bring an expert and maybe give a good knowledge. A 4mm fibroid does not require treatment usually it has to be more than 4cm. It is true pregnancy reduces these symptoms because it reduces the impact of estrogen , basically meaning its a natural process of pausing the effects of estrogen because estrogen is what boosts the growth of fibroids , your endometrium etc... Hence they give you oral contraceptives to combat this problem if you were not planning pregnancy.

Thanks for the information. We are not an expert show and instead use our platform as a safe space for everyday people to share their lived experiences without shame or stigma. We encourage our viewers to hear the stories and then seek information from expert sources elsewhere.

@@ShhhTalkshow I completely agree 100% and I love your show. Being a doctor i just wanted to say I ve seen many women with gynea related issues. People should not get the wrong idea and most of the time our lankans are more used to collecting bits and pieces of information from the media which id like to call the media hyperbole ... However i love your show and I all the issues you talk about. Just love the work you do.

Agreed! Would've been so much more enlightening if y'all could've got a obgyn here

Powerful! I've had many questions about these, and this cleared up many doubts. More power to Shanuki, Samantha and Kavitha for speaking out about this and educating. The poetry was wonderful! 💛
Good luck with Wilbur, Phoebius and Filliber.

Thank you for talking about the lack of information a medical professional gives a patient on any condition, leave alone reproductive system related. I was once told I will have to pay the doctor extra to get such information. Also important that the men who live with and around women who have to deal with reproductive health issues, are also counselled on such matters instead of concluding "vana mohini wahila"

Regular exercise and following a healthy diet with leafy greens and good intake of folic acid helps alot.

I'm terrified of getting tested because I don't want the doctor to tell me come back after getting married 😏. I'd hate myself if that happened. How can I find a good doctor?

    • @ShhhTalkshow

Unfortunately this is the issue many of us face. The best way would be through referrals. Ask the women you know for a recommendations. You can even try women’s groups on social media, and then draw a conclusion based on what the majority say. It’s also a good idea to go for a second opinion so that you are better informed and can decide whose advice to follow.

Hello, the Arka Initiative (on instagram) has a crowdsourced list of ObGyn recommendations! This might help :)

Normally doctors do not send patients with menstrual problems home asking them to come back after marriage. So goto a obgyn if you have any problem.

Far from it. I know one personally and these are women, who trusted a medical professional/s. These are strong willed ladies who had the guts to speak about a condition they had so other women and girls can get the treatment they need.
