That sound is called a flange that is connected to a switchboard to the lead guitar! It is very commonly used during the 70’s. It’s an awesome effect that starts a song and then rocks into it and they use it to end it as well
flanger effect.. 99% sure they're playing it off a sync'd track. i wish Kanami would actually play that part live.. i've honestly wondered why she doesn't
Wow..this is my favourite song..i found this band 3 days ago...and i think ..i have heard this song 40 to 50 times...i love this band man..this song is so epic
That sound is a guitar effect device called the phasor. A phase shift device. It is similar to a device called the Flanger. Olde time effects. You hear it on Van Halen songs, also Rainbow's ' man on the silver mountain' . Just to name a couple i can think of at the moment.
It's a preprogrammed phase-shift effect on the opening guitar riffs and it stays true to the original recording. It sounds a little trippy to put it in old hippie terms, so I naturally like the effect. The original "Thrill' video was their first and is one of the most straightforward songs in their library. It went viral at a low point in the band's history, practically saving them from breaking up, as I understand it. Others here are better versed in Band-Maid lore than I am and may be able to expand on that further. The original Thrill vid is what started most of us on our journey with these ladies, so please react to that, plus you'l get to see them in their original outfits and see the evolution of the maid costumes. Seeing Saiki in a miniskirt and MISA in a miniskirt with fishnet stockings is something not to be missed! I can't speak for the others here, but I have no problem if you start and stop the video several times and talk about what you are seeing. Just one request, back up the video 10 seconds or so when you restart to keep the continuity flowing. Thanks!
Yup Thrill was pretty much their saving grace. Miku is the one that decides their costume looks and I like the route she went with Misa & Saiki with their current outfit designs. An interesting note is that The Non-fiction Days is on an album and two before it were not written by them. The albums not written by them were Maid In Japan, Passion, Love, Matador single, New Beginning, & Brand New MAID. However on Brand New MAID, they have a song called Alone which was the first song they got approved and credit for. Many times they tried getting their songs approved, but got denied. I highly suggest Alone. You'll be able to tell that it's their work. Kanami's guitar solo is face melting.
@@Muzicman-ut3jr Thank you for that. You are correct, I used the wrong term, it is a flange. The two are close, but a flange gives that hollow "drainpipe" effect.
I love this song. It always makes me imagine the opening of some exciting police drama show. Many other TH-camrs have played Thrill without any copyright problems. You should be ok with the official video. It was the video that introduced me to Band-Maid. I stumbled across it by accident one day and my first reaction was, "Fuuuuck, these girls are hot!" Now I own all the tee shirts and all their albums.
Yeah me too, first impression of Thrill was . yeah okay then when i went back later i dicovered the subtlety of that fist hook of Band Maids lead me to more and more songs , now i am a total fanatic, best band in the world. haha.
The same for me. Akane's double bass pedal just hypnotized me, and I immediately went to their Facebook events page, and bought tickets to Amsterdam, to Melkweg. And my life has completely changed ever since...
You already heard Onset. Some people say is Rush band influenced, and Kanamincho said many times Carlos Santana influenced her. So We can affirm old but good sound come from Band-Maid.
They use some pre-recorded sounds in the live shows, for things they can't create live. Yes last song of the 2 hour concert. As for Thrill, I don't know of a good live version, but maybe you can find one.
Remember the link and sync option. Many Band Maid fans are also fans of BabyMetal, so are very used to opening a second window to get the audio for the video you are reacting to.
It is a typical jet sound. It is the sound of Flanger plus distortion. th-cam.com/video/E1Vog1kQu2w/w-d-xo.html The sound of the electric guitar is more or less decorated by effector.
John, you look a little too serious. Hey man, I said this before, watch "Freedom" (live @Zepp Tokyo). It will cheer you up for real. Someone originally uploaded it while ago but was mysteriously taken down but was uploaded again 3 months ago and it's been there now. So, the view count is not high. But, the song is really good and video is epic. And "Alone" and "Choose Me" MV's are awesome but I don't think people will mind you stopping a few times to avoid the copyright strike.
You know, Miku has one song on World Domination that she sings herself. Here is a link to a live version. It's interesting seeing the difference between Miku's and Saiki when they are fronting the band. Totally different. Band Maid - Rock In Me th-cam.com/video/X_c2WbqDNwc/w-d-xo.html
Live stuff is interesting 'cause it gives you a look into the band's performance style. But the sound is usually disappointing in some regard...a little muddy. The studio version of this song has Konami up more in the mix during the verses. Spacial location is better in the studio mix, too; seems live stuff tends to be jumbled together in the same audio sub-space. The dynamics tend to cancel a bit, leaving the overall sound flat, and thin. I don't particularly care for the flanger sound, either (like something coming through from another dimension), but it can be effective if used sparingly.
To me, this version is so much better than the original studio one. So much more energy. What I love about both Shinkiba and ZEPP recordings, is that Miku's guitar plays entirely in my left ear, and Kanami's in the right one. Overall, the song rolls much smoother, I think, than in the original New Beginning album version. Just an explosion of energy. The last song in Shinkiba concert, the audience is heated to the highest pitch, and the band has got a complete control over the crowd...
John, I think you are being a little too “touchy” if you ask me! This song is one of BANDMAID’S BEST which showcases their INCREDIBLE TALENT! I’ve never heard a band this talented in my life! RAW TALENT AT IT’S FINEST!
Then that would be the Pigeon Queen Po!!! And the sharks in the tank would have some super kawaii roses on. The flying pigtails of death would be the finishing move after the Kubato Kawaii Kick
Hope they make another April's fool video, i imagine them wearing like DC characters: Saiki as - Batgirl Miku as - Harley Queen Kanami as - Black Canary Misa as - Cat Woman Akane as - Gorilla Grodd?
There's many live versions, but the audio is pretty choppy. The best I could find was this vid: th-cam.com/video/0Xa2hOSaJdY/w-d-xo.html There's also an acoustic version which is one you should give a look sometime.
It's probably from somewhere around August 2013 or something. Miku have not bought herself a guitar yet, Kanami in a vertical bonnet, Akane is shouting in the chorus... Incredible. You can see that they are very young and inexperienced, but their raw talents already shine, and you can feel the chemistry starts brewing...

It is hard enough to find a guitarist or drummer as good as these two, but a bassist equal to the lady in black is a rare bird indeed.

The weird sound you are hearing is a guitar effect pedal-- either a phase shifter or a flanger -- sometimes a chorus pedal will make that sound too.
