My son is a FO player at a D1 school and he is so frustrated by the way the whistles have evolved over the last 3 years. He said this year it is a total guessing game. Players are not winning and losing on reaction time and listening skills they developed over a lifetime, they are just guessing and the refs are only calling half the jumps, which is now subject to question when its a call that can change the outcome of the game. Not only has "Set" "Whistle" become "SWhistle", but they are going right as the sticks touch the ground. So my son said, if you are smart, you are going down a little slower than your opponent and then basically rolling into it. EXACTLY what they were trying to do away with when they changed rules several years ago. Its stupid. There should be a 1-2 second pause after "set" to keep guys honest and make jumps obvious.
What i love about lax is that each position has a different play style and skill set its what makes the game beautiful to me
