Rolex wasn’t the first one to create a waterproof watch, it was Blancpain. Also, they didn’t invent the automatic watch, it was John Harwood, Rolex just improved Harwood’s invention.
Smartwatch will become absolutely dominant. The absurd prices of just metal chunk mechanical watches will be alienated by especially Gen Z, the future consumers.
10:28 "... estimated that the hard cost to build a steel Rolex..." *shows the only model that doesn't come out in steel. (That Day-Date was in white gold. Confusing, I know.)
@@cv507that's not true at all. Obviously, precious metals alone cost much more. Even a time only (no complications) , steel watch, can cost much more, especially if it's hand made, hand finished movement, hand turned guilloche dial, etc. If it's Swiss made (genuinely Swiss Made), no way is even the most basic watch going to be made so cheap. Average salary in Switzerland is around $100,000/year and watch makers make more. Master watchmakers make a _lot_ more. Even at 100k,that's about $50/hour. No watch is going to be made by hand, from scratch in six hours. There are parts that can take longer to make. Of course, a basic mass produced Chinese watch with no QC can be cranked out by the thousand.
This is a rubbish video. Rolex did not make their own movements. Until much much much later. Rolex sourced every thing from someone else. Get your fact right. Rolex was not a "real" watch maker.
Just found this channel. Wonderful content! :) I suggest including your references in the description.
Normal watches are not necessarily expensive...but the expensive ones are mostly because that is what many will pay for the illusion of exclusivity.

Great video.
