Indeed, it is very sad. I original had all the information about his bike accident too, but I ended up cutting it out of the final video. I elected to put more emphases on a positive note and highlight his 13 lap return to Germany. Otherwise it was just too depressing.

To be honest, I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks and this is the first time I comment on a video, on have seen most of these VERY scary crashes but this just reminds me how safe these cars are. If you're ever thinking about a sequel I feel Danny Ongais needs a spot. I'm still amazed he survived his 1981 Indy crash. Chip Ganassi's career ending wreck at Michigan 1984 was also massive.
I'm not sure if I will do another. TH-cam unfortunately does not like these videos and they have been demonetizing them for terms violations which really sucks.
Quick fun fact: Upon his several Paralympic golds, Zanardi would win the Rio Paralympic cycling gold medal on September 14, 2016; one day shy of exactly 15 years from the crash which would result in amputating his legs.
Since you have done 10 brutal Indycar crashes, you should also do 10 brutal NASCAR crashes. I can think of quite a few that would be worthy of that list such as Michael Waltrip's crash at Bristol in 1990, Ryan Newman at Daytona in 2020, Steve Grissom at Atlanta in 1997, Mike Harmon at Bristol in 2006, Bobby Allison at Talladega in 1987 (the wreck that led to the introduction of the restrictor plate), Davey Allison at Pocono in 1992, Rusty Wallace at both Daytona & Talladega in 1993 & Steve Park at Atlanta in 1998, Sonoma in 1999 & Pocono in 2002.
Robert was the most impressive rookie driver I can remember since Juan Pablo. I really wish we would’ve been able to see how great his Indycar career would be.

@@deborahchesser7375 Scary for sure. Reminded me of the '73 Indy 500 first lap. Ugly crash at the start of the race with Salt Walther upside down with legs totally exposed, toes face down on the track. That was a terrible year for Indy. Art Pollard gets killed qualifying and after about 3 days of rain delays trying to get the race in, Swede Savage has one of the worst crashes Indy's ever seen. Well,, to be fair and honest, some of those licks hurt for years and decades afterwards, we just don't hear about it so much,,until maybe later on in life. "Completely Unharmed" is a byproduct of the media trying to make it sound not so bad,,,for the masses, to make us relax in our EZ-Chairs. Thanks for the vid. I'll check a few more out now that I am here.
It's not the crash that kills it's the sudden stop. The cars have crumble zones, the point you go off the track (hopefully) also haves some "give" which helps to absorb the impact speed. nevertheless, it's a miracle some drivers escape with their lives.
Another one for you is the crash between Paul Tracy, Hiro Matsushida, Jacques Villeneuve and Dominic Dobson at Phoenix Motor Speedway in 1994. Great stuff.
Two crashes that need to be included in any future additions both happened at the Indy 500. They would be Tom Sneva's crash in 1975, and especially Danny Ongias' crash in the '81 Indy.
When a crash takes place in any motorsport, especially open wheel racing like IndyCar or F1, it really is nerve-racking to see the onboards of drivers during wrecks like those, hoping that they don't get hit my an incoming car.
I blame Wickens crash indirectly on the media. I watched the pre-race coverage. I won't name the announcer because he didn't do anything wrong. He was just doing his job, going through the top 10s and prognosticating who would win it and what they had to do. When he came to Wickens, "as I remember" he said that he needs to be more aggressive and not giving way to other drivers. I had been following, as many of us were, Robert Wickens talents. It seemed to me he was content to learn his craft one race at a time. Yet, to finish first, one must first finish. What do you think?
I rented a U-haul to Davie Hamilton once... I didn't pay any attention to him or his reservation and was just going through the motions of the system. For some reason it was asking for a lot more info than normal and asked for his employer... he said he was self employed, so I looked at his name on my screen, then looked and him and went, "Your Davey Hamilton!" He said yup, I pushed his info through and we talked for a while.
You know, after I recorded that I realized what I did there. I debated on re-recording it with a different choice of words but opted to keep it. It is kinda funny, especially since Davey is well now.
That some bullshit irony for Stan Fox. Man survives that horrendous crash in a race but dies in a street car on some dark, desert road. Life is brutal, y'all
I was watching the Stan Fox crash at the 500 when it happened I'm 54 have watched at least 45 of them. But that head on look coming out of the turn there was something on the track I think Stan might have seen it and went low. And when you get down in the grass and come back on the track it's going to take that hard right. Seen it happen alot at the speedway.
Stan Fox (Fuchs) is a second cousin of mine from my hometown of Janesville, WI. I was home on leave and at the racetrack when you got in that accident that shared off the front of the car with his legs exposed some of the information you stayed in here is wrong
That's cool he is your second cousin. But, can you please elaborate on what I may have got incorrect? Instead of just claiming some of what I said is wrong. I want to be as accurate as possible.
I'm still gutted over Wickens. I liked him right from the start and knew right away he was going to be my guy for the next decade or however long he chose to race. Feel like the racing world was robbed of a great talent but in the end all that matters is he's alive and prospering.
I thought wickens was gonna be a huge star he totally impressed me it sucks that he got paralyzed i feel the same as you we got robed of one of the best drivers
Me too, as a Canadian racing fan I had been following his career since the days of A1GP and was over the moon when he came to Indycar and was successful. I truly believe he would have been a championship contender
After any crash in IndyCar, it takes great strength to recover from it and yet some people say that race car drivers are not real athletes. Yeah right. Golf players are NOT athletes, yet it's considered a sport.
Unfortunately the Rio de Janeiro's racetrack doesn't exist anymore. It was demolished in order to build the Olympic Park for 2016 Summer Olympics Games. Since 2016, Rio de Janeiro is lacking of having a racetrack properly speaking.
Dad and I saw the Davie Hamilton crash in person and we were afraid that he wouldn't survive, after see the footage from Sarah Fisher's car I didn't even know she hit a wheel until now 22 years later
I have to say, Gordan Smiley and Russel Phillips had the worst fatal crashes. And ‘honourable mentions’ included Wheldon, Wilson, Wickens, and Moore’s fatal crashes. And I know it’s F1 but Roman Grosjean’s crash in 2020.
Man that whole front end sheared off that one lady's stock car I'm surprised none of these guys have died in these crashes man that tell you how safe racing has become I still have fatalities but not like there should be with some of those damn hits that they show good God they're just brutal
I actually originally did have it in the video. He's currently still recovering from the hand bike truck accident that happened a few years ago. I ended up cutting it out to end on a more positive note of him completing the last 13 laps.
And also, who agrees the Ryan Hunterray ( or however you say his last name) is just in almost every near fatal accidents??? I’m not an Indy fan tho so idk :/
Unfortunately he was involved in a few. Not always his fault though. But I must say, he has to take a huge responsibility for the Wickens crash. Robert was on the inside all the way down the straight and he didn't leave him room.
I've said this before and I will say it again, it makes absolutely no sense why they would design a track that has such a large elevation change like you see on the #7 crash on this list. As fast as these cars go, having blind spots such as that is just a fatality or serious injury waiting to happen.
Many of these older tracks were not designed or built to any particular racing series or vehicle. They have raced everything on wheels at Sears Point. Lots of motorcycles in the 70's.
From 1911 to 2000, the 230 mph qualifying record at Indy, was eclipsed 3 times.. From 2000 to 2023, it has been eclipsed 7 times.. Try again, remember when... P.S. The fact they were hitting 245 mph, back when YOU were watching, had absolutely nothing to do with YOU... *cue sad Price is Right jingle
Ich versuche, so gut ich kann, ins Deutsche zu übersetzen, lol. Die Zeitlupe stammt von der eigentlichen Rennübertragung. Das ist leider die bestmögliche Qualität, die ich für diese alten Clips bekommen konnte.
It really is a cursed place. Justin Wilson died there in IndyCar. In NASCAR Bobby Allison's career ended there. Jimmie Johnson hasn't won a points paying race since a wreck there. Several other big accidents over the years involving Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison, Jeff Gordon, Elliott Sadler, etc. We even have the 8 mile lightning policy in place today because of a fan who was struck and killed there.

I got a suggestion for another big crash that was 1992 nelson piquet
Honestly I had that one, but it ended up being the first one to not make the cut.
Kevin is immune to crashes since he did it so much
It's not how fast you're going when you crash ... It's how fast you're going when you come to a sudden stop 🤔
10:24 “an incredible feat” Ironic word choice lol😂
You know, after I recorded that I realized what I did there. I debated on re-recording it with a different choice of words but opted to keep it. It is kinda funny, especially since Davey is well now.
I was 100% sure, Katherine Legge would never survive that crash when I saw it live on TV
Worst oval crash (not fatal) I can remember:
1- Stan Fox at Indy
2- Kenny Brack at Fort Worth
3- Robert Wickens at Pocono
As of yesterday, looks like Wickens is looking to return for the 2024 Indy 500!!!!
You forgot Danny Ongias 1981 Indy 500 accident
Check out Danny Ongaisas from the 78, or 79 Indy 500. He survived, but watching it you would bet money that he didn't make it.
17:34 you can see the other car rip off the camera on top of the car, lucky it didn't go lower or it would have gone into his face
Meanwhile there's the Sochi Autodrom
How infuriating is that
5:00 That was God right there….Specially for Katherine
Unfortunately the Rio de Janeiro's racetrack doesn't exist anymore. It was demolished in order to build the Olympic Park for 2016 Summer Olympics Games. Since 2016, Rio de Janeiro is lacking of having a racetrack properly speaking.
how come you never mentioned swede savage's crash?
Dad and I saw the Davie Hamilton crash in person and we were afraid that he wouldn't survive, after see the footage from Sarah Fisher's car I didn't even know she hit a wheel until now 22 years later
I have to say, Gordan Smiley and Russel Phillips had the worst fatal crashes. And ‘honourable mentions’ included Wheldon, Wilson, Wickens, and Moore’s fatal crashes. And I know it’s F1 but Roman Grosjean’s crash in 2020.
He only shows the non fatal crashes i know some really bad f1 and IndyCar crashes as well
Next video should be one that go over the CART events in Miami in 2002 and 2003.
It won't be next unfortunately, but the Miami street race is in the pipeline.
Man that whole front end sheared off that one lady's stock car I'm surprised none of these guys have died in these crashes man that tell you how safe racing has become I still have fatalities but not like there should be with some of those damn hits that they show good God they're just brutal
Lady's Stock car...? I'm completely blind or am watching a different video.
These guys are brave !
I hope I’m that brave.
Stan Fox opening lap of Indy 500, hit wall tore off nose of his car. Legs was exposed while sliding down the track.
Luckily we don't see these kinds of crashes with legs exposed anymore... 11:45
You forgot to talk about the horrendous accidents Zanarddi had after the Indy accident. He had other accidents that almost killed him again.
Yeah I can agree. Thanks for replying man!
hola Excelente⭐⭐⭐
I've said this before and I will say it again, it makes absolutely no sense why they would design a track that has such a large elevation change like you see on the #7 crash on this list. As fast as these cars go, having blind spots such as that is just a fatality or serious injury waiting to happen.
Many of these older tracks were not designed or built to any particular racing series or vehicle. They have raced everything on wheels at Sears Point. Lots of motorcycles in the 70's.
@@chrisallison4175 That may be true, but I can't think of any sort of racing where a blind spot caused by a steep elevation change, is a good idea.
12:46 is that his legs😅
Wow those car goes so slow crazy I remember when they used to go 245 miles an hour this is embarrassing it's racing bring back the speed
How did that even happen to fox?
How did he even split in half into his legs are exposed
Pretty wild. The nose cone just got ripped off in a clean break.
I thought wickens died back then good to hear that it wasn't the case
Early '70's, Danny Ongias Indy 500 nose of his car sheared off and his feet dragging on the track... that was UGLY
i love pocono but damn...sometimes somebody just needs to call the police on Pocono
Check the body count at Indy if you are so keen in tracking down a scapegoat, for whatever reason you hate the place so much...
@@codymoe4986 haha yeah i bet, with its history, its a graveyard there
@Demise90Racing Late to the party, but enjoying every minute of it. Do yourself a favor, find other words. You are overusing "Brutal". Horrific. Horrendous. Ugly. Frightening. Heart stopping. Many other words available to utilize. Listen to the color commentators for other examples, and keep Motoring On! #Subscribed.
"AJ said it was Kevin Cooooogan"
