Here in South Africa we had a licensed copy of the CZ99 that was made by Tressitu called the TZ99 in the 90's. Great pistols, accurate, durable and they were very well priced. There are still a few TZ 99's floating around on the South African 2nd hand market.
I had a chance to handle all 3 of them during service and I can agree that 999 is the best of them. EZ9 is in theory the most modern, but I must admit that Zastava had dropped the ball with quality control with EZ. They claim that quality checks are more strict now throughout the production process.
Nice vid. C99 one with Charles Daily engraving on the slide has the loaded chamber indicator where pin pokes your hand. Those are the earliest imports that I know of. My friend has one of those. However, the indicator broke. I also myself have CZ99 but in .40 S&W and EZ-9 but longer slide. They are all awesome battle proven guns. Former Yugoslavian state Slovenia has new Arex Rex Zero 1 pistol something between Sig P226 and CZ99. Looks nice too.
I have a CZ-99 that I purchased in 1991. These are made out of something they called poldi steel, I do not know the characteristics of the steel but I do remember the guns were marketed to be so strong that they could be reliably fired under water. Mine is still in near new condition, and has never failed me, I've put about 1500 rounds through it over the years no issues. You can modify a beretta magazine to work with this pistol. You only need to cut a small "D" shaped slot in the new mag and it works flawlessly. They came with tritium night sights they are too dim to be effective as night sights anymore and I need replacements. I love mine, it rocks.
That's interesting to find out that a Beretta mag can be modified to work. I have an unfired CZ99 and found it hard to locate extra magazines so will have to give your modification method a try. Thank you for the tip.
@@TheBvirgilio86 mine still looks like new, it wears well over the years. Try the beretta mag modification but be very mindful how and where you place the one new hole. Measure carefully.

Nice video. I'm a big fan of Zastava stuff as well, and try to collect what I can (with meger funds) get my paws on. I hope you can get your EZ9 fixed. I have the same model (compact, in 9mm) and have had zero issues ever with it. Hate to see yours with a problem, but it doesn't seem that difficult of a fix. -- As much as I do appreciate Zastava, they seem to have a serious and consistent obsession with making model names as confusing as possible (going back as far as I've found.) So, I just want to mention, it was my understanding that the original CZ99 - which had the low round count indicator, as well as a switch on top of the slide that allowed you to select either double/single or DAO! Two features I woild love to get a hold of. I had come to believe (and hear a few times) that this model was never imported to the U.S., but another comment here gives me some hope that at least the low round indicator made it over - which I'd love to find! I *think* IIRC that the D/S / DAO toggle switch was listed as an option, so I'm betting that that was what was actually never imported. (i.e. a model with both features.) Although if anyone knows where to get one State-side, please let me know! Anyway, their next model deleted those two specific options and was called the CZ Scorpion (to make it nice and confusing with the Czech 'CZ' "Scorpion" machine pistol / PDW, which also saw widespread military use among the Yugoslavian military, at least during the break-up.) THAT was what was imported here under the name 'CZ99' (just to keep with the confusing Zastava tradition.) As far as I know, the CZ999 and EZ9 are the same (although everyone in the region just calls the CZ999 'the Triple 9' from what I hear. -- I'm hoping to pick up a CZ99 pretty soon. I've got a source that had two, that need minor parts replaced, for a steal of a price. I think I'll contact them tomorrow just to ask about the low round count thing. Nice guns! I picked up wat is probably a prototype CZ99. It isn't found anywhere and not listed on the variants section on Wikipedia. The slide is very different, it doesn't have the removed material horizontally where the brand is stamped at yours. The front sight is a horizontal dovetail like the back one. And its around 2/3" shorter (slide & barrel). Grips are different too. Slide is marked "Crvena Zastava" with the offset "CZ" like yours. But with under it "COMPACT-C". Other side says "made in Yugoslavia". The only other marking is the "9mm para on the barrel. But no serials whatsoever on any part. Not the other side of the barrel, not the slide or the body. I checked for removal with an xray for hairlines, but the gun was neved serialised. Sweat stains indicates it's been used by a left handed extensively. Any idea what I have here? Some pics m.imgur.com/a/VfshFmc
@@GBGuns I don't live in the US though. Roughly 900 miles from what used to be Yugoslavia. I went back to Wikipedia, and noticed that an Israeli model/clone (KSN Golan) had a shorter barrel. So I looked up some pictures. And it seems to match my gun perfectly, length, front sight dovetail direction, slide and different grips etc. i.imgur.com/tvXCR1R.png But mine was made in Yugoslavia, it hasn't been rebranded as I had it xrayed to see if any serials had been removed. i.imgur.com/HWtyzNE.jpg i.imgur.com/9gFdvZi.jpg Not an Israeli gun methinks. I'm now cleaning it and found some markings inside the slide "0 1 2" crudely punched in, and to the right it looks like a signature, engraved/scratched by hand "S2" i.imgur.com/Ao5JVSZ.jpg I'm guessing an early prototype that never got to market and the Israelis bought the rights for eventually (may be the 12th, or maybe the 3rd if they go by book edition style). Or it could be a test code. Because when the Israelis started to make this, there was no Yugoslavia anymore. Last little observation: the gun is very poorly coated. I wanted to disinfect it with alcohol after use (corona) and the paint came right off. Only the body seems properly anodised or coated, the rest is like spray can paint. I wanted to keep it original, but now the slide is just bare metal :( going to cerakote it anyway. At least I now know how to look for parts (Golan is still produced I think) :) I've been having a hell of a time getting even a spring or smth. And the firing pin of a normal CZ99 doesn't fit.
That's not bad, it took them a while but I think they realized that since nothing had changed (rails still out of spec for example) asking nearly double the former going rate was just mad. Theyrebuilt like a tank and super accurate, but far from premium
My opinion is that you probably do not have a problem with a slide realese lever. The video shows that when you pull back slide, you press down the decocker with your finger. Don't do that and slide realese will work corectly.
The decocker lever doubles as the slide release lever, like in an Arex Rex Zero 1. They intentionally designed it to work differently than a Sig. So what he was attempting to do was correct.
Mate-how come that your spring is not made from twisted steel wire (I mean on the EZ9)? Could that be the problem you have? You bought it new? From a proper vendor? Being Serb-I am sorry to see a fan of our guns have such a problem...btw-for me-the largest difference is that 99 i "fat". Although I am tall and have long fingers-it is still a bit unnatural for me. Grip is... I don't know... Not elegant. Two others are fine. But 99... well... Anyway-thanks for a nice video.
Sorry the new importers are so greedy, just a couple of years ago they were $350 all day long. When Zastava USA started importing them they were suddenly $650
@@GBGuns Wow. I first saw them at like 550 back in January, but I was interested in throwing my money at other stuff first back then. I can't even find them for 650 now. Hopefully by summer next year they'll come down in price to like 450.
They're incredibly accurate great-shooting guns despite the crude machining and so-so finish. I enjoy mine and consider them a favorite but they're just not worth anything over $400 in my opinion.
@@GBGuns So like a Makarov then. I do enjoy crude machining marks on reliable guns. I saw you getting unbelievably great groups with it in the revisit video. It's definitely the next 9mm gun I'll buy if they come back in stock eventually. Zastava USA seems to be rather focused on AKs right now as they are flying off the shelf. Hopefully they had enough time since 2018 to set up and start importing and manufacturing to make a pretty profit this year. If anything hopefully this year helps them expand their company into the US market more.
I don't think Zastav USA is building anything. They're an importer: the place an order with Zastava the wait for theguns to be built and shipped. There were some political/legal issues in Serbia last year that may have effected things. Check the used market.
CZ 999 had optional feature with pin that poke your palm when is 3 rounds left in magazine and also round in chamber indicator ( pin will stick out on top of slide in site line). CZ 99 not sure did it have any of these features. Serbian, New York City.
+The Question as I understand it they have a deal with Century and with FIME. FIME has the Arex now so they won't import competition. I don't know what the deal is with Century
My Zastava EZ9 pistol was giving light firing pin strikes when new. Returned for repair, it they had a problem with the hammer following, (not staying cocked after firing), back again for warranty work. Now, 300 rounds later, the hammer is following again and Zastava will no longer answer my emails. Not happy. :(
@@genesmiley3727 I'm sorry to hear that, I didn't have a good experience with them either. That was a few years ago and so I had hoped things had changed. All of my pistols are from earlier imports.
They took the pistol back when I first bought it because of light firing pin strikes. Also, the front sight, if you aligned the dots, stuck up about 1/16in above the rear sight. If you aligned the sights, the dots didn't line up. They replaced the sight, but the new one was the same. They said that was how the sights should be. Then I got it back, and the hammer was following, not staying cocked after firing. Sent it back again, it worked, but I din't fire it for awhile. Took it out a couple days ago, fired around 300 rounds, and it started having the hammer following issue again. Took it to a gunsmith friend to look at, he said the trigger bar was noticeably worn, appeared to be of very soft metal. Now Zastava USA won't reply to by emails and messages.
I used power blaster to clean the CZ99 pistol and the finish came off in my hands It was like it was painted. I exchanged it for an M88. In that the device that locks the disassembly ce off in mid shooting. I gave up on cheap guns, since they are unsuseable for self defense.
CZ99 came with tritium sights with half life of about 11 years. I thought that was standard option as sold in US. Mine still glows after 27 years. Mine also has round in chamber indicator which yours seem to lack. Maybe yours is overseas used and not made-for-US used.
1 yr latter but all 3 of them have indicators. if you pay attention you will notice them trough the video. its just lack of light making them hard to see.
I'm really late with this this, but couldn't you theoretically send the EZ9 in to be fixed? I have the full size model (with upgraded recoil spring) and I do not have this problem. Seems like a malfunction.
That's what makes sense. If not broke, don't fix. They look to have an excellent platform. No major changes apart from improvements and fine tuning. Better hammer, grips, (slide and hand), modernization looks but don't change shape or style. They look well maintained aswell. Maybe a touch of oil needed on moving parts. Yes I mean the magazine.Could be a sign other parts need a drop. Saves on wear and tear affecting resale value. Just a drop. I can hear metal wearing on mag removals. Just a touch on the sides about 2 thirds up then down. Just a smidgen, you pigeon.
That might be a common problem because my gf has the EZ9C and that slide lock/release/decocker is a pain. almost impossible to lock back without empty magazine but releases fine, although you need to push really hard to decock as well.. huh..
Hardpee789 and YOU STREANGER IN VIDEO. Problem dont exist' in model EZ9 !!! Must put dowm frst (near maut of guns) decoder down and greap of guns is come back in normal position in easy way 😉 You welcome 👍 Serbian ordinary boy ✏
EZ9 FTW, if u check ur facts.. glock took over cz999 contract do to "enternal conflict" "civil war" immagine that!! so i dont think its so much "marketing" as some of u might believe!! :D
I tried one and sent it back and swapped it for a M88. Still had issues. I finally decided to wait and buy a better pistol. A used S&W 4566 TSW set me back $300 and my Sigs at $400 to $500 both with life time warranty that follows the gun turn out better. The polymer Sigs new run about $400 (p250 and sp pro 2022). But to each his own. We buy what we like (I will never buy a Glock).
My apologies. My comment was directed to highschool grads. But bottom line is that this is a free forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion... The rest will judge us for our intellect and ability to form a sentence without any f bombs.
I like my CZ999, but you can't find parts! If you are on a budget, I'd stick to a good surplus pistol, especially Cold War stuff. (Star BM9; Beretta 92S; a Tok or a non-Chinese Makarov.) I got my Zastava CZ 999 from Classic Firearms about 5 years ago and no complaints except forget about finding any replacement parts or additional magazines. (Unless you want to pay almost what you paid for the pistol.) For anyone else who reads this... If you can find a Zastava CZ 99 or 999 at a Gun Show, or used at your LGS, the cost would probably be very reasonable. (~$200 range.) They are good shooting collector pieces that will probably appreciate in value 5-10 years down the road, but beware parts are nigh impossible to find in the USA. Neither Wolff or Numrich Gun Parts carry springs, mags or any other parts for them. Don't buy one if you intend to use it as a CCW or anything more than a collectible Safe Queen that you shoot on occasion. If it breaks, you are "S" out of luck!
Try with Berreta...magazines from Berreta 92f 9mm are almost the same...you need to drill hole on specific place (on the front of the mag...there is a video someware on yt..) and you are good to go!
You have the problem by not releasing slide smoothly with an empty mag inside. Some people, including myself, have a problem seeing people operating a pistol with a magazine in without an intention of loading and firing. That's simply wrong!

That's definitely an early one. Maybe a bring-back or smuggled part?
@@GBGuns I don't live in the US though. Roughly 900 miles from what used to be Yugoslavia.
I went back to Wikipedia, and noticed that an Israeli model/clone (KSN Golan) had a shorter barrel. So I looked up some pictures.
And it seems to match my gun perfectly, length, front sight dovetail direction, slide and different grips etc.
i.imgur.com/tvXCR1R.png
But mine was made in Yugoslavia, it hasn't been rebranded as I had it xrayed to see if any serials had been removed.

Not an Israeli gun methinks.
I'm now cleaning it and found some markings inside the slide "0 1 2" crudely punched in, and to the right it looks like a signature, engraved/scratched by hand "S2"
i.imgur.com/Ao5JVSZ.jpg
I'm guessing an early prototype that never got to market and the Israelis bought the rights for eventually (may be the 12th, or maybe the 3rd if they go by book edition style).
At least I now know how to look for parts (Golan is still produced I think) :)
I've been having a hell of a time getting even a spring or smth. And the firing pin of a normal CZ99 doesn't fit.
Do any of your CZ99's have any numbers stamped in the slide next to the firing pin?
I have cz999 full size I'm trying to mount a red dot sight but I can't find the right fit. Can you help me?
YES!
Nice
So what aren’t they importing these anymore?? I bought a CZ999 a long time ago and I love it!!
Except the quality seems to have gone down and pricing up. They wanted $650 for these pistols before they realized no one would buy at that price.
That's not bad, it took them a while but I think they realized that since nothing had changed (rails still out of spec for example) asking nearly double the former going rate was just mad. Theyrebuilt like a tank and super accurate, but far from premium
Thanks a lot! Three more to add to my growing handgun wish list. Now if I play the lottery correctly......
I've heard some folks say that the EZ9 is very accurate-shooting.
+The Triggerati for some reason I do best with my CZ999
Better than my Sig226
So, the main difference between the full-size EZ-series pistol and the compact model is a shorter barrel (and slide)... not very compact, is it?
The classic definition of a compact 9mm is a 4" barrel and 15-round capacity. Ironically 4" is the SAAMI standard for 9mm ammo.
@@GBGuns I see. Fair enough. :)
Where can i get one this pistal. It's good looking hand gun.
thanks
My opinion is that you probably do not have a problem with a slide realese lever. The video shows that when you pull back slide, you press down the decocker with your finger. Don't do that and slide realese will work corectly.
The decocker lever doubles as the slide release lever, like in an Arex Rex Zero 1. They intentionally designed it to work differently than a Sig. So what he was attempting to do was correct.
I told him so....when pulling back slide do not press or hold the slide-release button...the gun is ok and works 100%!
If the CZ999 ever comes under 500 dollars I'll pick one up. I love Cold War style handguns. So cool and sleek.
I know and for years I searched for one that had that.
Seem like great deals, but why so hard to find? Would think importers would be chomping at the bit.
+The Question as I understand it they have a deal with Century and with FIME. FIME has the Arex now so they won't import competition. I don't know what the deal is with Century
I have failure to extract any ideas?
My Zastava EZ9 pistol was giving light firing pin strikes when new. Returned for repair, it they had a problem with the hammer following, (not staying cocked after firing), back again for warranty work. Now, 300 rounds later, the hammer is following again and Zastava will no longer answer my emails. Not happy. :(
Is this through Zastava USA?
Yes
@@GBGuns
I used power blaster to clean the CZ99 pistol and the finish came off in my hands
It was like it was painted. I exchanged it for an M88. In that the device that locks the disassembly ce off in mid shooting. I gave up on cheap guns, since they are unsuseable for self defense.
When was this? My older ones are great, but I've not heard good things about the new ones
I agree
Where can I find magazines for the ez9 I am having trouble finding them
maybe You should try in Serbia? xD
Google. I bought one from somewhere. Can't remember where but I know it wasn't Serbia.
They look like Sig Sauers
I have an EZ9. I like it better than my Sig226.
fuck i can't find a cz99 or ez9 anywhere for less than 450. plenty of sig 229s at 500 though.
I bought the EZ9 NEW...it stovepipes. I don't think I've even had 50 rounds through it. Any input or suggestions? Thanks Graham!
+chris blanchard what ammo are you using? Try some hotter or heavier loads to start.
Graham Baates anything 115gr. recommendations?
+chris blanchard try some 124gr or NATO-spec ammo.
Thank you sir...will do!
Have you tried FIME group?
Sory for my writing and gramatic mistakes! ...
can you still get these or did they stop making them.
+smileydogg24 They're still made, just not imported. FIME group has a couple EZ9s left.
Which ever way you cut it they are 9mm 1911 Browning system
Will any aftermarket sights fit on the CZ999?
Have you found out what sights fit? It looks to me like Sig P226 sights would fit. In that case I could get Trijicons.
I'm really late with this this, but couldn't you theoretically send the EZ9 in to be fixed? I have the full size model (with upgraded recoil spring) and I do not have this problem. Seems like a malfunction.
Mach 1 is still kicking...at least on GunBroker.
What are the improvements of this pistol over the Sig ?
Where did you get the wood grips for the cz999?
I have a question I heard you can put a CZ999, 9mm barrel in the CZ999 40S&W and the 9mm 15 round magazine and they will fit is this true
+Francis Allen I don't know.
Use uma 890
I think you have pressed the slide release while pulling the slide back...that's why the slide release didn't work...??! Please try again...
i want a gun how much RS
Meraklija za cz
Are they still being imported by anybody?
+Mark Zanghetti I don't think so. FIME group may still have some EZ9s
Just a smidgen, you pigeon.
how long is the barrel on the CZ999 and EZ9 ?
108mm...on full size...
Must put dowm frst (near maut of guns) decoder down and greap of guns is come back in normal position in easy way 😉
You welcome 👍

How can i open the firing pin to clean it inside
Does the cz99 not have a serial number?
Cz999 in 40 are coming in for 299 ... Slick guns has 2 places with them
EZ9 FTW, if u check ur facts.. glock took over cz999 contract do to "enternal conflict" "civil war" immagine that!! so i dont think its so much "marketing" as some of u might believe!! :D
Does anyone know is the EZ9 will fit in a P226 holster?
It will not
I tried one and sent it back and swapped it for a M88.
(Star BM9; Beretta 92S; a Tok or a non-Chinese Makarov.)
I got my Zastava CZ 999 from Classic Firearms about 5 years ago and no complaints except forget about finding any replacement parts or additional magazines. (Unless you want to pay almost what you paid for the pistol.)
For anyone else who reads this...
Except that now there is Zastava Arms USA who is re-importing these guns and parts!
I have an EZ9 and i'm searching for extra magazines with no luck.
RD H look on eBay I got 3 for my EZ9 and also got 2 for my CZ999 in 40S&W on eBay
Try with Berreta...magazines from Berreta 92f 9mm are almost the same...you need to drill hole on specific place (on the front of the mag...there is a video someware on yt..) and you are good to go!

Nice gun but I still prefer the rex zero 1
The Rex is an improved clone of the Zastava. Advantages with the Rex are newer machines, modern engineering, and style
EZ9 owner, works just fine with all usual ammo. Octagon is not a favourite choice...
You have the problem by not releasing slide smoothly with an empty mag inside. Some people, including myself, have a problem seeing people operating a pistol with a magazine in without an intention of loading and firing. That's simply wrong!
ahh 99
