No, she didn't say that the writers wrote good stuff for other actresses on the show. This is what she said: "I am truly grateful for the honor that the Academy bestowed upon me last year. I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials."
You're absolutely right. "17 Seconds" and "Losing My Religion" were some of the best work I've ever seen by an actress on TV. Katherine deserved every ounce of that statue. They were just late giving it to her!
I think Katherine Heigl is a GREAT actress and I feel she should have been nominated for the her Izzie/Denny storyline. The academy does like to make for their mistakes. However I agree with you 100 percent about Rachel Griffths. Her work on Six Feet Under was PHENOMENAL and she definitely should have been nominated for the show's last season on the air she was amazing..but one day hollywood will award this AMAZING actress! Shes much to talented to be ingnored!

actually, in Grey's Anatomy, I do agree with her in some level. Her character seems to be like a side character more than the others. In season 3, she was coping with Denny's death (which brought her to win for 2007) but in Season 4, she had another struggle with George and then in the end she was drifting (until the finale where everything and everyone was normal back). Chandra should win this time, nuff said, she deserve it.
I think that the best Oscar speeches are the ones not written, because you can actually somewhat feel that persons happiness, when they are nervous, and frazzled, and happy, they are honest. :)

I don't see why people are so negative about this speech, what's wrong with it? I love her shaky voice, it's so real; I've sounded like that when I was freaked out, too!
The writers are the a step above, aren't they? Therefore they are her bosses. If she's bashing (that's why I call it, since there was not even a hint objective criticism in her statement) the storylines, than she's not only insulting the writing staff, but Shonda Rhimes, the show creator and executive producer, remember? She was the one that decided Isiah Washington had to leave, she can do this again, with little Miss Heigl.

Now it makes sense. I see where Heigl gets her glorious assets. I need to make sure I meet my next lady friend's mother. That'll be key to see if I can spend a long time with her. I don't get it when people say Heigl is just average. When she's clearly way beyond extraordinary.

Yes the writers are a step above the actors and there is most definitely a hierarchy in television, film and theater. Actors are the bottom of the barrel in terms of what happens to a production if they leave. The writers left their shows and the shows SHUT DOWN. An actor leaves a show, they replace him/her or kill off their character. Actors are a dime a dozen.

I wish the writers would withdraw their names from consideration for the Emmy for writing, and when asked why, they would say "we didn't feel that Katherine Heigl acted the material we gave her well enough to warrant consideration for nomination". LOL. I know it will never happen, but I can wish.

aka, she thought she's pissed at the writers for not giving her good enough material to garner an emmy. I'm sorry, but that sounds awfully ungrateful to me.
And people are negative about the speech because it was totally unnecessary for her to say anything about that announcer mispronouncing her name and then bringing it up AGAIN later.
IMO, Oh or Wilson should've won the Emmy. I'm not saying that Hiegl isn't a good actress, but they are a lot better.
