    Taking small steps is the standard advice we must all follow. However, while it's obvious what steps that are too big look like, is it possible to take steps that are too small?

    • @iteachsalsamarcusbodycodin338
      @iteachsalsamarcusbodycodin338 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Small steps is the standard advice - yes, but it is also possible to take steps that are too small -
      if you end up stepping in place - it can confuse you with the sense of direction: when your steps are so small that you actually stepping in place - you won't really sense if you were stepping to the back or to the front -
      **sometimes stepping to the back is necessary to create tension.... - which is one reason why it is important to have the sense of direction when you step - that's why your steps should not be too small.
      all of the advice above is more directed to the followers,
      while the leaders also need to keep small steps most of the time..since the leaders control the Frame and direction of dance... sometimes it is important for them to do big steps - and also adjust themselves to the follower's position
      the leaders know what is going to happen - they can anticipate where they are going to be - so it is less risk for them to do a big step
      on the other hand, the followers don't know what is going to happen... so for them is it more important to keep small steps - so they would be ready for anything that will come next (when you have small steps - you can more easily change directions or weight for example.
      I hope it was helpful!

    Hello,
    I am a beginner and I don't understand why the steps are jump from step 3 at step 5? Why step 4 is missed?

    • @Turgid_Spleenis
      @Turgid_Spleenis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The music you will most often dance to is in groups of four pulses called quarter notes. If you add the 4 and the 8 in the spaces he leaves, you get 8 pulses. He leaves them out because you aren't actually stepping during them.

    • @marcussanchez6227

      I've found that you can actually step in place with the foot that is about to lead for the 4th step (ex. left foot out = 1, right foot step in place = 2, left foot back/centered = 3, AND THEN, right foot step in place = 4, and then you can apply the same count/steps to when you go back with your opposite foot, therefore, right foot back = 5, left foot step in place = 6, right foot forward/centered = 7, AND THEN left foot steps in place = 8) it helps to not lift your foot too high off the ground, just the slightest lift and tap will do, hope this helps and happy dancing!!

    • @pressgangs
      @pressgangs ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right but thats a godamn way of explaining it, the 4 and 8 are little stabs and add to the flavor of the dancer. to me its the only time you add a little sauce to the rhythm, 4 and 8 are freestyle but maybe i just butchered it as much as you. long story short: have fun @@marcussanchez6227

    How do you signal the lady so she doesnt walk or knows you will do a cross body?

    • @salsaventura
      @salsaventura  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She should not walk by herself. Never. So I should not be telling her when NOT to walk, but WHEN to walk ;-)

    Why do steps 3 and 7 ar not slightly foward and backwards respectively?. I have seen that is more common while dancing 🤔

    • @salsaventura
      @salsaventura  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. Once you get more into the flow you can place your feet a bit more back and forward respectively.

    Why do you exclude 4 and 8 rest beats in your explanation? It would make more sense if you give an explanation of the rhythm from a theoretical standpoint don't you think? Perhaps you have a video here somewhere on the theory aspect. Personally I would find it helpful. Thanks in advance.
